Update on David Stone-he is staying at Oklahoma

I think about that a lot. It’s really on the players and his agent to really verify the legitimacy of offers before steering the kid into the portal only to get caught with your pants down like Nico did.

And I wonder if the agents lie and say this team is offering 40% more just to bluff Miami to spend more. Lots of games being played with no rules on how to play lol.

But that’s why Mario gets paid the big bucks.
Maybe our Canes have to call "a few bluffs".......if it makes sense then up the ante on merit and on potential, but if the player's agent wants to strong arm...then the waiting game begins....and it is cat and mouse....

This applies to everyone............and with the Syracuse Coach bleating and crying and assing himself.... that does not mean that Pena will get $2 Mill.....more like $1 mill and an incentive bag.......we are smart not dumb.......and good at portal dealing.

The whole system needs to be fixed but its the NCAA so its not surprising that you have to literally fight and pay to keep your team at 3 portal windows with other teams tampering. Not even professional sports is like that and has rules in place to prevent that

If anything make it just one window

Or do the obvious, make each initial commitment and NIL deal and actual contract with set terms and duration.

Right now its one year free agency, frenzy, with no defined boundaries

I hope you’re right but kids could go publicly they are entering portal even if schools do not submit paperwork. There are rumors schools may be pulling a Wisconsin on kids.
Promises........promises........then ante up time play dumb......

No, gotta wait until the portal closes and see what they end up with

This. If we’ve learned anything these past couple of years, it’s that Mario surprises us. Sometimes in a good way, like Ward and Beck, sometimes in a bad way like not pursuing more and better DBs last cycle. Still too early to tell this cycle how the cards will play out.

FWIW, we desperately wanted Stone a year ago and he looks to be on the trajectory we expected him to be on. So go out and get him and pay the money which we would have had to pay anyway, if he had chosen us. He gives us two years of goodness at least.Even then we need another situational piece for the DT position group.

My biggest issue with this is that no…..this is not like NFL Free Agency. It’s nothing like NFL Free Agency because there is no established salary cap nor are players beholden to anything resembling a contract.

Without checks and balances to this nonsense the overall game will degrade…..this is not sustainable. I know Congress is supposedly acting and I know the technical reasons for why contracts can’t be enforced currently…..with that said I humbly believe Miami is doing an outstanding job currently navigating this mess.

Says a lot about the current state of the program and its ability to compete, hopefully it continues.

It’s about key guys being offered excessive NIL deals to leave. I think it’s pretty clear from what D$$ wrote. First priority is to keep the important guys on the roster. Then see what’s up
That is at least a decent sign about Miami's roster.

Other people want what we got cooking at Hecht.

Yes, what’s the point in going all in on him just a year ago, putting massive resources and time in to him but now think he’s a lemon after 1 year?

If they don’t want him now, then they really whiffed on his evaluation and doing their due diligence on his back ground out of high school.

I don’t understand why ya’ll can’t grasp the idea of us addressing CB and QB in the winter portal but still need WR, LB, and more Safeties and DL, lol. Does addressing the CB room after it being the worst position group at UM since I’ve been alive just override falling short at several other spots? Why is it so hard for some of you to be objective and look at things without O&G glasses? Honest question? The reason we are all active on this portal forum right now is because we still have A LOT of needs. So what is the issue with someone saying the portal haul was incomplete? Is that false?

We NEED a WR1, a LB, a S and a rotation DT. So we need 3 out of the 22 starting spots right now.

We addressed the biggest needs in the winter and the next the spring. I’m not seeing how this is some travesty

Depends on how you look at it. People have the extreme thirst for a national championship and it views that any effort falling short of that is viewed as a failure.

Obviously the team is being measured up to that. At least that's my view.

Need to land stone
number 1 priory to me
Land him and the talent gap across both lines of scrimmage between us and the rest of the acc is big enough we’re just gonna bully ppl
And can bro ball them to 10 plus wins and acc championship

Just think it’s unrealistic to think we can address everything at once. That’s not orange and green glasses I think that’s fair. We’re here because it’s another portal opening and another chance to address those needs.

I also think it’s ok to say the positions we did fill was solid In the winter. Every team is going to have holes, that’s football.

I’m with you. The conversation around NIL and caps is off to me when the real issue is portal and contracts. There will always be outliers (Ohtani and Soto) but fix the structure and everything will mostly work in our favor.

But I say that as a fan of a brand name team. Probably ain’t working out for Oregon State ever
