Update on David Stone-he is staying at Oklahoma

So who have we lost from the '24 roster that looked to make an impact on-field this fall? And who are the portal whiffs EARLY in the spring window? Where are posters getting this concrete information about low-balling and wasting/misappropriating resources? I will say it seems factual that the winter portal was ++. It also seems pretty well known that the head coach is a tireless worker who specializes in talent acquisition. While we don't know the outcome of the next few weeks, we do know the talent acquisition results during Cristobal's tenure have been pretty **** good. If I'm going to fret over Cristobal, it'll be on Saturdays, thank you very much. A lot of this 'sky is falling' stuff seems premature. Ridiculously premature.

I’m a bit confused by the retention aspect that’s apparently a big block.

We just lost Cam Ward, Martinez, Barrow, Restrepo, George, Brown, Arroyo, Baron and Powell. Patterson was on a nice NIL deal, so was Carr. Same with both Horton’s. Even Riley Williams and Rudolph were getting some $$$.

We signed like 2-3 guys in the winter portal worth considerable $. We upped Jordan Lyle’s bag so that he wouldn’t transfer. The HS class sure as heck doesn’t reflect a top tier NIL allocation, because remember - we were told that we were going to spend on portal guys instead, since they were more proven commodities. Absolutely fine take to have at the time, in fact I’m for it.

So the question is - are we penny pinching, are we waiting for someone or a few guys to enter, or who the heck did we overpay for very very badly?
It’s about key guys being offered excessive NIL deals to leave. I think it’s pretty clear from what D$$ wrote. First priority is to keep the important guys on the roster. Then see what’s up

Time to find some hobbies for this fall?
I don’t golf, hunt, own a boat or fish so…

We are considered a top spender by the rest of America- coaches, media, agents.

The only place I see people questioning our spending is our message boards, I think there is an information gap.

Crazy that us not wanting to over pay for players with no production means we’re broke.

We need to be better. We’ve improved three wins and nine draft picks from January 2022, but we lost a 21-point lead to Syracuse with the season on the line. We aren’t where we need to be.

Part of the fun of this process is debating strategy and allocation. But the whining I see from many about us “going cheap” is wrong. And it often comes from those who don’t put up money.
This will be my last point on this topic.

We can all agree the staff needs to do better. And to your point, part of the fun is breaking down their decisions and looking at whether our past and current strategies are working.

You don’t think we’re going cheap with certain players? In some cases, you are right, but in others, I strongly disagree. Too often we’ve seen key positions go unaddressed. Last year, our secondary is one example. This year, I’m seeing it again. At DT, you seem to be fine with our roster, and that’s fair. We can agree to disagree.

I’m not anyone important, and I’m definitely not one of the few billionaires funding the roster, but that’s just my opinion based on feedback I’ve heard from people who really involved with the program and football community.

It came down to uga and Miami for O’Connor you best believe he got paid well. Poyser was the 2 safety in the portal and picked miami over lsu, uf, auburn, uga. You best believe he got a bag. Blay was highly ranked and a top 5 DT in the portal he definitely got paid. We know beck got taken care of.

I’m sure teams were on Bain especially after last year defense. So probably had to throw Bain some extra bread. Probably had to up oj bag. Sure francis got some calls as well as jojo after not playing much last year
And Lyle. I’d bet Lofton has been pursued. Frances? Plenty of guys that need protecting

Miami also has another problem where it has one the best of best budgets in the country and can’t even install an average defense and make a playoff with a garbage schedule. 25’ starting to feel like Deja vu with this roster.
