Upcoming playoff expansion vote (12 Team Playoff Chosen, 9.2)

The point is they’re destroying the one thing that’s made Cfb differentiate itself from all the other sports. The importance of every game , the urgency you felt even as a fan. One loss , maybe two and you’re done. Every regular season game was crucial. That’s all been thrown out the window for corporate greed. We now have two NFL’s , one is just the JV. Watering down the product isn’t a good thing.
That’s totally fair, I just think the four-team playoff the way it is now, sets up in which college football kind of dies after the regular season. We have lower tier bowl games, and you wait a month before the playoffs. Now, we’ve got some more games that mean something, although I’d rather 8 than 12.

Agree about the greed, but that won’t change.

So is it 1-4 get first round byes?

5-12
6-11
7-10
8-9
think it would be interesting.

IF it laid out that way.
Agree.

Why is every one getting so excited?
The first round is, in effect, glorified bowl games which are played at the higher seeded team's home turf.
The top 4 get their bye.

Then we have the final 8, which is where I thought it should be anyway.

So, those of you who are experiencing a menstrual cycle because of this, just look at the first round as "New Year 4 bowls".

FCS plays a 12 game schedule, plus conference championship games, AND a 16 team playoff where the championship game is played in early Jan (around the same time as FBS championship game). It's always funny how FBS powers act as if implementing a true playoff is some insurmountable task.
Those playoffs are awesome too

teams 8-12 will be blown out by halftime lol “ but it’s more football bro” We can’t even get good games in the four team playoff, and those teams are supposedly somewhat equal.
Not if 5-12 play and 1-4 have a bye.
What's the difference between 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, and 8 vs 9 and the NY 6 bowls?

2021:
ND vs Pitt
Ohio State vs Utah
Baylor vs MSU
Okey St vs Ole ****

Assuming chalk:
Cincy vs ND
UGA vs Ohio State
Michigan vs Baylor
Bama vs Ole ****

More than half of those game I'd watch.
I see only 1 clunker.

Have a shot? Have you paid attention to the national champions the last decade +? Only a few teams “ have a shot” every year. Thats why six to eight teams was more than enough. The semifinal games suck most years because of how top heavy this sport is. Once again this is all about money and not improving the product.
That’s why expanding makes sense to me like u said semis stink so adding more doesn’t change much also if more teams can get in the playoff maybe more players pick other schools taking away from the top 4. It’s simple math. If all things stayed the same the talent gap would still be massive. Here’s to hoping more kids don’t go to stacked schools cheers

I’m m
When Bama smoking a 9-3 team 50-0 they gonna be like wtf we do that for. Now u coupling playoff expansion with regular expansion destroying a bunch of local and traditional rivalry games and I'm not sure how this goes.

I think it should have been 6 or 8. I'm not sure how to judge the impact. On one hand you say well its not gonna mean that much in the regular season, but also teams who thought they were out and had no chance will have renewed vigor to play games. I'm more concerned about expansion getting rid of games with tense atmosphere and local implications
bama already smokes the team in the Semis lol there’s literally no difference adding 8 more teams lol. I think 8 teams was the best option but I’ll take 12 bc now any team can get in on that one great year they may have rather then the stale same 5 teams. Btw the 4 team playoff ratings are below that of the BCS so they had to expand bc nobody wants to watch the same teams every year in the playoff

This is the point that people are missing that are against a true playoff. 12 teams is perfect. hopefully talent spreads out because the current shape of the sport is terrible. Just about every team is playing meaningless games all season because they have no chance of winning a championship or even making the playoff. Talent disparity and preseason rankings eliminate 99% of the teams. Case in point, If Miami loses Sept 17 they will be eliminated from the 4 team playoff. The entire rest of the season are truly meaningless football games unless you consider potentially being ACC Champs as meaningful.

Although I don’t agree w/ 12, here’s my solution:

-11 regular season games (1 FCS or G5 opponent, 1 OOC opponent, 9 games in conference to determine to champion w/o a conference championship game)

-Bye weeks given to top 4 seeds voted by CFP committee

5 v. 12 (round 1)
6 v. 11 (round 1)
7 v. 10 (round 1)
8 v. 9 (round 1)

1 faces winner of 5/12 (round 2)
2 faces winner of 6/11 (round 2)
3 faces winner of 7/10 (round 2)
4 faces winner of 8/9 (round 2)

Winner of 1/5/12 faces winner of 4/8/9 (round 3)
Winner of 2/6/11 faces winner of 3/7/10 (round 3)

Winner of aforementioned games square off in title game (round 4)

At the most, a team would play 15 games, & if they r a top 4, 14 games.

Incorporate a rotation of 3 of the NY6 bowls for the semi finals & championship games, while rotating tier 1 bowls for rounds 1 - 2.
The 3 NY6 bowls not used in rotation will be at large bids to those who just missed the top 12.

Imo, while some refined details can be incorporated, this solves:

-The amount of games played issue (once upon a time, teams played 11 games in season & the bowl game was the 12)

-Bowl game prestige restoration; since Tier 1 & NY6 bowls will be in rotation, when a team doesn’t make the CFP but gets an opportunity to play in a bowl assigned to the CFP, it won’t be looked at “as” meaningless.

Once upon a time, conference champions were crowned w/o a championship game, so that wouldn’t or shouldn’t be an issue.
Solid plan, but I don’t know if conference would give up championship games.

Yeah the first round will be the bowl games we had before but they'll actually mean something. Only thing it stinks for is fans that previously would end their season on a high note winning the Cotton Bowl now win the Cotton Bowl then get blown out by a rested Alabama the next week

6 highest ranked conference champions will be guaranteed spots. That’s huge.

That’s a real disincentive to join a super conference. I’m sure this was rushed into place in order to stop the conferences falling apart.

Hey, if we win the first round “Cotton Bowl” and move on to the final 8, I’m good.
Let the chips fall where they may.

I had no problem with us beating Auburn and ISU in basketball and making it to the final 8.
We actually had a great first half vs Kansas.
Even though they eventually ran us off the court, I thought it was a great season.
