UNLV Matt Sluka-Sitting Out Due To NIL Dispute

Absolutely awful look for UNLV when it comes to G5 recruiting.

The staff and admin there have to be completely incensed with their collective behind the scenes right now

This is one of those weird situations. I absolutely do not like it when a player just gives up on his teammates. A QB should be an Alpha and always sticking up for his brothers in battle, selfless, and trying for the greater good of the team.

That said, we are in a mercenary world now and it is a business decision. I am not surprised by this at all. Now it is a "he said, she said" situation and both parties look stupid.

The college football version of a contract holdout.

I predict this will be more commonplace in the future, especially if someone get in these kids ear and says something like, "The contract you signed was bad, holdout for more."

...As well as the gamblers too.

Yeah, this is a constantly changing narrative by the minute and doubt we'll ever know the truth. Bottom line kid should have had this in writing to protect himself
He definitely should have had a contract written and up signed before he enrolled there but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s not getting what he was offered and is choosing to sit out and transfer elsewhere is a much bettter idea than just playing for nothing.

Y
100% believe Sluka.

An FCS kid from Holy Cross doesn't just transfer to a place like UNLV, play 3 games including 2 road upsets against Houston & Kansas, then just decide to quit.

Here's the thing about renegotiating... IF that was the case, that would mean he was already receiving payment & then wanted more right? So why would he quit if he was getting paid? If they already paid him & have been paying him, why wouldn't he just keep playing for what he already agreed upon when he transferred & then played 3 games?

If he agreed upon a deal (for however much), when he transferred back in February, then that means he agreed to that deal under the auspices that he would be playing out the full season of that agreement. So what exactly would cause him to agree to transfer to UNLV in February, go through Spring & Fall camp, play 3 games & then quit, if he was getting paid the entire time??

So you mean to tell me UNLV or the collective was paying him & he decided to throw the money left remaining on his agreement for the rest of the season away?

Doesn't sound right to me.

Sounds like someone agreed to pay him & the payments never came, so instead of playing for free he left.
You nailed it.
I just posted more of the story from Max Olsen at ESPN. He spoke to the family too

Looks like UNLV is the UF of the west.
