UNLV Matt Sluka-Sitting Out Due To NIL Dispute

Not sure its dumb for him. QB's in such high demand. It depends where he ends up. Dude wants paid like he was promised.
No, it sounds like he wants more money because UNLV is ranked in the top 25 despite his mediocre passing stats

100% believe Sluka.

An FCS kid from Holy Cross doesn't just transfer to a place like UNLV, play 3 games including 2 road upsets against Houston & Kansas, then just decide to quit.

Here's the thing about renegotiating... IF that was the case, that would mean he was already receiving payment & then wanted more right? So why would he quit if he was getting paid? If they already paid him & have been paying him, why wouldn't he just keep playing for what he already agreed upon when he transferred & then played 3 games?

If he agreed upon a deal (for however much), when he transferred back in February, then that means he agreed to that deal under the auspices that he would be playing out the full season of that agreement. So what exactly would cause him to agree to transfer to UNLV in February, go through Spring & Fall camp, play 3 games & then quit, if he was getting paid the entire time??

So you mean to tell me UNLV or the collective was paying him & he decided to throw the money left remaining on his agreement for the rest of the season away?

Doesn't sound right to me.

Sounds like someone agreed to pay him & the payments never came, so instead of playing for free he left.
None of it sounds right but just to play devil's advocate/answer your questions if the rumor of offering him 3k a month for 4 months and that was his NIL package was true I could see him making a business decision. He has 1 year left, likely no NFL upside, so he could 1. play the rest of the season for the 12k agreed upon like you mentioned then go work for enterprise rent a car, or his "agent" could tell him he has offers in excess of six figures from other programs for next year.

No different than an NFL player signing a contract then feeling like they outperformed and sit out and take all the fines etc even though they agreed they would play for x amount of dollars, they would rather forfeit the short money with the hopes of getting the big deal and avoiding injury in the NFL. For Sulka this is it in terms of eligibility so I could see an argument both ways.

his agent sucks and apparently not even licensed in NV so hes got more issues.

also, the coaches are ******** for allegedly doing this when the collective wasnt even for it.

again, thank god we dont have this issue

Most people on that staff are ****ed in the future and not to be taken seriously in a new era of CFB.

Any agent will remember this and they’ll either get shut out immediately OR ask for a ton of $ upfront.

#1 means they’ll be getting worse recruits than they are now.
#2 is bad news for a poverty program

weird that corches would even be involved. After all it’s NIL, not pay to play.
eh. I doubt it's not the only place. I bet college coaches are involved with the NIL stuff more than we know just not dumbasses about it like UNLV (both their collective and their coaches are useless along with the kids agent)

We've had colleges in the past lie to student athletes, before and now, and people try every way, shape or form to try to point this onto the player.

We've had collectives being sued for not holding themselves to contractual agreements.

But keep believing his NIL value rose into the millions and that's what makes him TRANSFER and **** out the majority of the season, because that's what young QBs need. LMFAO.

it sounds like he was promised a set amount when he trasnferred verbally by coaches that the collective said nah fam after the fact.

Yes, my sarcasm wasn’t dripping enough.

Right now I would caution all to remain calm, & hold off judgment. There’s two different narratives going on from two different camps.

However, do u see how NIL is being tied to what “the school promised” v. the collective? This situation is going to be monitored & scrutinized while the NCAA has it day in court. We can call this Exhibit A.

Regardless, welcome to the new world of CFB, & new precedents set where guys can hold out in mid season if they

a) are not compensated accordingly
b) feel they deserve more than what was agreed upon
c) feel they want to transfer, & to preserve their eligibility

Side note, verbal agreements are implied, not binding. If the family &/or representatives didn’t put pen to paper, & based this situation off a pinky swear, then that’s their fault. U always have a binding contract ahead of any agreement, & read the **** outta it, including every disclaimer, fine print, contingencies, even if it doesn’t seem important.
This is a common misconception. Verbal agreements are legally binding. Whether you can prove the verbal agreement is another story.

Yeah, this is a constantly changing narrative by the minute and doubt we'll ever know the truth. Bottom line kid should have had this in writing to protect himself

So, I went back and watched some of the highlights to see what @WeBallinBoyz was talking about with Sluka.....and the dude is a tough, resilient runner. Real gutsy. But do you want to laugh? Look at this ****. Watch #2, the DE for UNLV in this clip.

#2 DE
