UNLV Matt Sluka-Sitting Out Due To NIL Dispute

The takes from people in here box score watching confirm how casual a lot of you are, and how you don’t watch ball. You watch Miami games, maybe some ESPN highlights, check an app, and then come in and make definitive statements. Classic CIS.

He single handily won them the Kansas game on offense. He was not brought in to go air raid on teams.

Coming into 2024, he generated over 200 missed tackles in his collegiate career…AS A QB. That’s unheard of. He made defenders miss and dragged them all night vs. Kansas, single handily winning them that game on offense (the defense was lights out 2H too).

He’s very hard to bring down as a runner. He’s solid as far as G5 QBs go. Ceiling capped for sure, but solid nonetheless.

As for the NIL situation coming from someone living in Las Vegas and at the heart of UNLV’s rise, people are stunned but it seems as if it’s on the collective here.

Also their backup is a solid QB. Hajj Malik Williams from Campbell.
At least none of CIS is as dumb as this guy from 247. He suggests that Mario have practices at night to get used to playing at 10:30pm against Cal.

Absolutely awful look for UNLV when it comes to G5 recruiting.

The staff and admin there have to be completely incensed with their collective behind the scenes right now
I actually don’t think that’s it. One of the UNLV casters dialed into a show. I was listening to earlier and he was putting more of the blame on the athletic Director, but also said their head coach is old-school in this regard and only wanted one of the players to have the same amount of money And they are of course, disputing that this guy was ever offered anything approaching this even though we all kind of know that his quarterback portal transfer ranking would have probably gotten him about the money. He has said he would get.

And that was all before the running back who is their best player chimed in

So just because he played three games he decided to redshirt because his NIL value went up…….. so what you are saying is that Cam Ward can hold out on Miami because we are 3-0 and he can ask for more money than we gave him because he’s clearly worth it? I’m confused? @canesupremacy
Thought I had seen recently that Cam had just signed another NIL deal…

Sooo, their starting RB just announced he's done too...yikes.

After 3 games, I have decided to utilize my redshirt & enter the portal at the end of the season as a RS JR. I'm grateful for UNLV & wish them nothing but success. Expectations for opportunities unfortunately were not met & I am excited to continue my football career.

Exactly, which makes it extremely unlikely that it is true...
Exactly a guy who has absolutely zero NFL prospects is going to get recruited after three games where he had a 43% completion rate by a P4 school and put everything at risk for tampering

People believe anything when their school is in the glare

This is a common misconception. Verbal agreements are legally binding. Whether you can prove the verbal agreement is another story.

Maybe I should’ve stipulated in greater detail v. providing a general gist.

Yes, verbal agreements can be binding if they meet a set of criteria; the problem is unless it’s proven, which is far more difficult, it becomes conjecture, implied, probable, &/or he say she say. Unless u have the other party admitting, an unbiased 3rd party witnessing, or u r in a state where u can legally record someone w/o their consent, it’s extremely difficult to prove to a judge in a suit this person “said this” w/o any facts, proof, or documentation to prove such a claim/accusation.

That’s y it’s imperative to get things in writing, & scrutinize every single word on that document, including any language that can give leeway for legalities to breach an agreement. U want to resolve any potential ambiguities that can be interpreted in the other party’s favor.

I’ve seen way too many of my homies in the entertainment industry get ****ed up the wrong hole by not fully reading or comprehending their contracts, with **** *** agents more interested in their upfront cuts w/o vetting the signed docs thoroughly. Dudes getting paid $1.45 per episode during syndication b/c of verbal understandings v. what was on the paper on page 7 in 1.5 pt print.

Man, sign the NIL contract before you sign with the school. I don't know if that makes him look any better. If the Thamel story is true then everybody looks like an a-hole.

Portal transfers do not have the same amount of time to arrange NIL deals that high school recruits have.

VERY abbreviated window for Portal kids to get enrolled at a new school.

This is a bit much man. Though I will admit two things can be true.

He absolutely wins games with his legs. But he's a horrible passer.

Not only are his numbers dead last in the FBS among starting QB's, they're also career lows. And its not like 2024 is an outlier. His passing didn't exactly light the world on fire at Holy Cross either.
