Uniforms

Wow. That looks like a Miami Hurricanes jersey.

Pretty confident we will get an ugly uniform that doesn't impress. I prefer a classic uniform, not these gimmicks you see weekly.

Prepare to be disappointed. Kids want new and shiny. Old men like me and you want traditional and throwback. The players are going to win out every time.

Accept that fact and there may some glimmer of hope you will enjoy the new unis.

They're boring. Very old school Big Ten. We're not changing our font anyway so that has no chance.
This. If you think kids are gonna like that uniform, you're nuts. Fans liking them is a plus and important, but the kids are the ones that have to play in them. Unis are a draw for recruits, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. That's a fact. Some kids like the traditional Bama, some kids like the innovative Oregon. That's why we need multiple options.

As I've said before...what needs to be pushed for is for Nike to do something new that's clean/modern/inventive for the normal uniform worn for 85-90% of our games. The rest of the time, we should push for throwbacks like the styles we've had thru the 80's/90's/early 00's for special games, all in the new technology. Best of both worlds. Make white/black/team color cleats/socks available for any combination we choose...don't pigeon hole us into one color for that. Black cleats/socks may look badass with one uniform or to a set of people, but other colors might look better with other uniforms. No need to say we can only have one set.

It won't happen...but that'd be the best situation and would please pretty much everyone on some level.

Your post, in itself, makes no sense. If uniforms were all for recruiting, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, FSU, Florida, Ohio State, Texas, LSU, etc. would never get any top recruits and would never win. Those teams, except for small (and I mean minor) tweaks, have had the same uniforms forever.

The sad thing is that somehow these could end up hitting the perfect sweet spot between being old school and new and actually validate the theory that unis matter in recruiting as SBB and Ridley shut down their recruitments and commit on the spot at the Spring Game yet a sizable contingent would be on here immediately deploying phrases like "lipstick on a pig". This literally might be one of the biggest no-win topics of all time. I'm off to convince people that SLS isn't that bad a venue. Good day.

I'm still a big fan of our original pro combats, though they were sleek and modern.

Those weren't bad. The only thing I didn't like was the white on the jersey kinda didn't match the more matte white of our helmets. Certainly better than these though:

These uni's are very similar to a mock-up of a potential new dolphins uniform from when the Phins were designing new uni's. I really like them as I really liked them for the Phins. It emphasizes what's best about the colors and the logo while giving it a modern update. Hopefully no grey or black. Those aren't the colors

As long as there is no black for the sake of wearing black, no goofy *** chrome or matte helmets and no drop shadowing the names/numbers I'm whatever comes out will be fine.

Something like this would be good:

Please re-read my post, as I think you've misread it or ignored a key part of it. I never said uniforms were "all for recruiting", I simply said they're a draw for kids. They're nowhere near the sole deciding factor, but they are an element of it that kids these days will definitely pay attention to.

As for the teams you posted about having the same uniforms "forever":

Auburn has had the same basic looking template. UA modernized it a bit, and have played with their cleat designs, but overall, not many changes or special unis. I'll give you that.

The rest?

Bama has had 2 Pro Combat uniforms. Not worn very much, but they've had them. The Crimson/White combination had houndstooth integrated on the uniform lettering and the helmet stripe.

Georgia's template has stayed pretty steady after their Nike redesign a few years back...but they did trot out these very non-traditional unis against Boise St in 2011: http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2011/georgia-nike-pro-combat-uniforms/

FSU? Come on now. They've had a Pro Combat uni, and they've had all-black ones as well within the past few seasons.

Florida/OSU/Texas have all had special uniforms in the past few years, along with main template redesigns (tweaks) to fit Nike's new uniform templates a few years back.

LSU has had some Pro Combats, and they underwent a uniform redesign not that long ago as well to go more of a throwback look. They even changed the logo on the helmet this spring to modernize it: http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2014/new-lsu-logo-2014/

So--two things to take away here:

1) I didn't say uniforms were ALL for recruiting, as you put it. I said they were a draw, and only one element of many that goes into a kid's decision-making.

2) All of those "traditional" programs you listed have had changes to modernize their uniforms, even if it was just to fit Nike's new template, do a Pro Combat special uni, or to modernize certain parts of their overall uniform. Change happens. Deal with it, because bytching about it won't make it come any slower.

I know this is a football board but we have to think about our other sports as well. I hate some of the crap UA does. That stupid blood on the jersey stunt they did with Northwestern immediately comes to mind. Also, how many kids do you see playing basketball in UA shoes? Nike baseball also is on a higher tier than UA and Adidas in terms of full equipment offered etc.... Adidas football and basketball stuff looks traditional and boring to me for the most part. Additionally this is about more than uniforms. The shorts, hoodies, shoes, t-*****, jackets that the kids receive for training and walking around are important to them as well. No matter how far UA has come we all have to admit Nike is still king and kids think of Nike as the premier athletic brand.

As another said, I don't care what they look like, just win. I've been to a ton of games through the years and would be hard pressed to match five uniforms to the game they were worn in. The last two uniforms that come to mind that are hard to not notice how bad they are were Maryland's football this past year and this year's McDonald's AA basketball uni's.

How many people who have commented in this thread buy jerseys?
