I don’t fault Willie or anyone who accepts a promotion whether they are ready or not.

real question: would you have been excited if Willie was the named the HC at the U?

no, you wouldn’t have. We can really end it right there.

However

what he did at wku was good work.

at USF his wins went up each year. But he also had a really good QB for those last 2 years and a really bad defense every season. As his offensive totals went up so did the defense yards and points surrender. that’s not a good sign of sustained success.

His recruiting at USF was actually trending down when he left. I always like to look at year 3 for a coach becuase there is usually a bump when you can sell playing time and hope. By year 3 you gotta be able to sell what you actually are.

his year at Oregon was a disaster and the only reason they kept him was because of the fools gold recruiting class. We’ve seen at FSU that he’s not a great recruiter. So his time at Oregon probably would have ended next year.

I’m not a Willie hater he’s a black multi-millionaire salute to him.

His agent did a great job getting him out to bigger jobs before he ever had to prove that he is actually a good coach who can sustain success and wasn’t a one hit wonder.

The problem is that there is no stepping stone from FSU without proving to be elite an coach.

ppl here wanted golden and manny fired in their 1st season. Two guys that didn’t take over teams with an average recruting ranking of 4th in the country 3 years prior to them getting the job.

what im saying is that Willie struck gold once. And has rode that all the way to a 17 million dollar buyout.
 
Gotta look at it like this... fsu is in uncharted territory. Since 1976 this will be their 4th head coach.

Bobby built their program and they found his successor in Jimbo who continued it until he got tired for whatever reason of their admin and left. So this was their first coaching search and hire since 1975 and they botched it. Now they have to do it again and its something their not use to or accustomed to doing.

When they hired Willie all my fsu friends told me he would win a title in no time. I told them all he was fools gold as a head coach. He was almost fired from USF until Quinten Flowers came off the bench and saved his job.

I dont believe Willie was fired because of his race, but let's be real here.....he wasnt even given a whole 2 years. I think there's been like 4 coaches in the last 20 years that were fired after 2 years. Now if the next coach they have yields similar results as Willie and isnt fired after 2 years your gonna have people pointing to bringing this up.

I think everyone liked Willie at FSU until they played that 1st game vs Va Tech on Labor Day night and got absolutely destroyed on national tv and showed no fight and were sloppy. That night I remember fans on their board already wanted him gone
