UNC..this should mean something

There is nothing special about UNC when you look at their stats.

The only way we lose is if we beat ourselves. If we play even an average game, I can't see us losing.

I actually think this is a bellwether game for the defense as an indicator whether it's able to improve week over week or if we're trending the wrong way. It's a good game to prepare for Notre Dame. I watched 3 of their games and these are my thoughts:

1) Their QB is the most spastic pocket passer I've ever seen. He's like spastic Kyle Wright. We need to keep a pocket around him because he does not operate well out of a pocket. He gets really happy feet and panics. That leads to some some terrible throws that can be picked off. What he wants is for someone to over pursue on the edge, slide into that area, and give himself an open view of the field. He can run, so he will take off, but I just think he's way more comfortable when he can see the field. The DL has to stay disciplined. I also think corner blitzes will be effective. I'd keep the safeties home because he loves to throw down the middle and if there's no safety there it'll be a problem.

2) They don't love to go deep. It's a lot of RB screens, short outs, crossers, and seam routes to the TE. Two of the top four receivers are their TE's. They love to get them the ball over the middle and on drag routes. They can move the ball pretty well when they're humming. The problem is Edwards (QB) usually stalls their drives with a terrible throw. The run game is not really great. I get the feeling they run sometimes because they feel like they have to, not because they want to. They want to dink and dunk their way down the field.

3) On defense, Miami should be able to run all over them. It's 5 yards a pop against this team. Notre Dame at the end of the game realized they could just run the ball and North Carolina could not stop them. I think Mallory is going to have a monster second half against them. Like 100 yards in a half type performance. If Miami can establish the run early they're going to score on every drive. I will say their DBs are pretty good at times in coverage and play like we wish Miami DBs played. Heads turned around, hands on the ball. I give them some credit here. They don't get a lot of pressure on the QB because I just think their DL is not very good overall.

I said it's a bellwether game for Miami on defense because this is assignment football at its best. This is what Miami needs. They have the talent, they just need the discipline. Against this offense, they just need to do what they're supposed to do and it'll be a blowout. You don't need heroes in this game on that side. The big plays will come if they play smart. Edwards will put the ball in harms way and there will be plenty of chances for turnovers, if they play sound. This is how they'll need to play against Notre Dame. Notre Dame this year is not going to out talent Miami. They're going to try and do what Indiana did and out execute Miami. It's the defense right now that is struggling with that.

IF, big IF, Miami comes out disciplined on defense then I think this one gets out of control like the Pitt game. I'm not worried about the offense because the run game should be there and we have two of the best players in the country in the passing game. But if the DL gets sloppy and allows Edwards to move around in the pocket all night he's going to make plays and they are capable of scoring.

The Notre Dame game was a 1 point game with 5:00 left in the 3rd and Notre Dame going for it on 4th and goal. They converted for a TD and never looked back but it was dodgy there for a minute. Not that Notre Dame wasn't clearly the better team but they were up 21-7 with 1st and goal in the 2nd quarter, chance to completely put the game away, proceeded to turn the ball over on downs, let UNC drive down the field and score a TD to end the half, then gave up a kickoff return for a TD on the opening kickoff of the second half. Anything can happen.

Don’t have an issue with Belichick & young thing, but UNC is definitely a stop on the revenge tour. Mack Brown & Co. abused us, kicked Manny’s ***, players & crowd thought it cute throwing the upside down U. It’s time we finally kick their sorry asses.

We need this game and I want them to abuse Brllicheats defense. I think it will be tight early Petino scripts a pretty good first 15. We need to be disciplined and our Dline needs to step up big time!!

I looked at their first 2 drives in each game:

TCU
10 plays, FG
3 and out

ETSU
3 and out
3 plays, TD

Clemson
6 plays, TD
10 plays, TD

Notre Dame
7 plays, TD
1 play, INT

Pitt
7 plays, punt
3 and out

Duke
11 plays, FG
3 plays, TD (only an 11 yard drive after a blocked punt)

Syracuse
7 plays, TD
13 plays, FG

You're definitely onto something. They are 17th in the country in 1st quarter points per game (Miami is 12th).
But they're only 64th in the country in first half scoring.
They're 125th in the country in 2nd half scoring.
93rd in the country in overall scoring for the entire game.

So they're definitely fast starters. Especially with this game on the road, at night, on Halloween, with the game sold out and crazy, it's imperative we shut them down early.

I think even if we're tied at the end of the first quarter, or only down 3, that's probably a win. They come out swinging, for sure. We are 15th in the country in 1st quarter scoring allowed, so if we can make it a stalemate, I feel good about pulling away in the next 3 quarters and winning comfortably.

But let's not go insane if it's 7-0 or 3-0 in the first quarter.

Yea, it's not talked about enough on this board but a win against UNC and Miami's odds to be in the ACCCG skyrocket.

Wake - 1 loss ACC and we have the tiebreaker
SMU - 1 loss
VT - 2 losses
UL - 2 losses (Likely eliminated as Miami would probably have tiebreaker with better ranking under new ACC rules)
Clemson - 2 losses (eliminated due to Miami tiebreaker)
UNC - 2 losses (could eliminate this weekened)
Duke - 2 losses
BC - 2 losses

So, if we can win this weekend, that's really only:

Wake (plays SMU and Duke) - Miami would need to lose 2 games
SMU (plays VT and Wake) - Will either eliminate themselves, one other team, or both
VT (plays SMU and Miami) - If they can beat SMU they probably have the most realistic chance outside of Wake
Duke (plays Wake and Miami) - They also play Clemson and NC State. I don't see them running the table
BC (not giving them a realistic chance)

I think it comes down to Wake/SMU/VT and they all play each other.
For Miami it's simple, win the rest of your ACC games UNC, Duke, VT, BC

From what I've heard, BB got a job near a college sk his young girlfriend could cuck him whenever he was unable to get it up. Trust me bro.

Halloween night crowd should bring juice, but need to enforce will before halftime. Very disciplined team that hangs around hoping you’ll make a mistake. So, don’t let them hang around, limit penalties & blown coverages & get ready for ND.
