UNC Slapped with LOIC

The cloud has mutated and now stretched from coral gables to chapel hill.

I think people need to realize that if butch were hired it would be a longer term rebuild than people are anticipating. IMO he wouldn't turn it around in a year or two or even three. He's a great program builder, talent evaluator and player developer, but his coaching acumen is very very suspect and that's what prevents a quick turnaround.

He would not be able to do what Urban did at osu or saban at bama. He's not that kind of coach. I know that is an unpopular thing to say but if he were rehired the expectations to turn it around quickly would be so high and there's no way he would meet them. IMO. I still would love the hire but I think people's expectations of what he can accomplish and how quickly are way off.

Butch Davis won't be back at Miami.
Would I love to have him? Absolutely.
Will he be back? Absolutely not.
Anyone that thinks Miami will hire him is delusional.
If anyone is interested in placing money on it, please let me know.
Prepare yourself to be let down if that is the only guy you would ever like to see at Miami.

1.) lady Basketball was the worse offender at UNC, not Butch Football team.

2.) Anyone that this UM Admin brings as HC has 60% chance of being a "Fail" (& that's being generous)

3.) The college world of Football AND the NCAA don't want to see a dominant UM.

4.) Therefore there is inherent forces to sully Butch name dirty so that he doesn't bring the old U back.

5.) Still, Butch is THE surest thing to bring this U to compete for championships.

This all may be 100% true (I'm not arguing any of it). However, I'm willing to place significant sums of money that Butch will not be the next head coach at Miami. There is a much higher probability that Al Golden gets 8 or 9 wins this year and saves his job for another year or two than Blake hiring Butch. Then we get to read 1000+ more posts on this board about how Butch is the savior (at age 65 or 66).

Also, if you think they are going to fire Blake this year with how well a lot of the other sports have been trendingduring the last few years (Baseball, Basketball, Women's Tennis, etc), you're going to be disappointed.

A) Even the FBI couldn't track down any wrongdoing for over a year as stated in their report on Shapiro. There was nothing to say he was "dirty", just a loudmouth, obnoxious, booster who thought he was more important and entitled than he was.

B) The owner of the bowling alley and friend of Shapiro, as well as others at the event, said Shapiro wasn't even supposed to be at the event. He just showed up, walked up there, and handed her a check.

Whine about the hiring of ADs and coaches all you like, but trying to pretend that the Administration was in on Shapiro's crimes is just BS.

But he's doing 20 yrs for a ponzi scheme? Yeah your excuses make sense. Showing up at a bowling alley and just handing over a check is not normal booster behavior. Please stop, there is no defense for him or the troll. By the way, I never said the administration was in on anything but choosing to look the other way, while overriding your head coach and allowing that weasel around your student athletes, means you are just as guilty.

Yes, he was caught later. At the time, there was no evidence of wrongdoing. Did you read the FBI report that was released? I did. The lead investigator discussed how the case was stagnant for a good year because even they could not find evidence against him. Shapiro was described by the lead investigator as the most convincing and accomplished liar he had encountered in his career with the FBI investigating these kinds of cases. There is no defense for Shapiro. Trying to blame a university president for accepting donations from a booster who while obnoxious, arrogant, and over-the-top, had no signs of illegal behavior, is ridiculous.

You are wrong. There is due diligence to be done when accepting money. The source of the money matters a great dell. If you have standards you check. If you are low-lift crooked slime like all Clintonites, you take the money and smile. When your head football coach tells his players to stay away from a big money donor and your people have to order him to let the guy hang out, ANYONE knows something is wrong. Donna is supposedly one of those smartest guys in the room types -- you self-proclaimed genius. She is the President of a major international university and should have known better. She is either stupider than Randy or a crook, there really isn't another option. Pretending there is calls your status into question.

..and that due diligence was done. Nothing was found until much later. Even the FBI said as much. Randy didn't like Shapiro because he was a loudmouth, obnoxious jerk who was a bad influence on the players. That has exactly zero to do with the money itself being dirty money from illegal activities.

Randy didn't like him because he could smell the crook on nevin. Maybe Randy benefited from real world life Donna never had, but if you have half a brain you suspect if not KNOW that easy money is frigging always dirty money not earned money. This is especially true in South Florida. From WPB down on the coast there is now and has always been a large number of "operators" who have run scam after scam for decades. Now I am assuming Donna has brains and pays attention to something other than her fingernails. If you are saying she is stupid, then I might have to reconsider.

Its crazy how some people on this board will say that Donna wouldn't have hired Butch, but she was caught red handed receiving a 50k check from Shapiro. Talk about being a hypocrite...

That was not an NCAA Violation. It was merely a donation from a Booster to the school. Move along now.

Yeap. that is why school HAD to GIVE it back, because there was nothing wrong with taking stolen property from a crook. Is that you Donna? Seems like Donna got hit with "lack of institutional control" too. Remember that smuck got mad because to thought she "bought" a free ride by sacrificing those 2 bowl games and giving away scholarships? NCAA hit her with the big charge. Why? If you don't think that picture of her stupid smiling face had anything to do with that, you are being silly. Her own, who protect each other to the death normally, turned their back on her and gave the thumbs down verdict. Even super IQ Randy knew not to tough that crook. Donna was lucky she didn't get a "show cause" letter because she deserved it(as did Foote).

Nonsense. The school gave it back when they LATER found out it was money gained from illegal means. I'll take the FBIs version over yours any day.

At best they gave it back because they had not choice. The claw back powers on bankruptcy judge in these cases made that the only decision she could make. Plus it made her look better. In the end it doesn't matter because if your little queen has any professionalism, she would have resigned and surrender her pension for the damage down while she was at the helm. If she is the honest broker you make her out to be a logical thing to do and would have convinced me she was something different than I believe. I have defended many a South Florida crook. She acts just like everyone I ever knew. Randy reject nevin because he had been a victim of crooks. Donna embraced him as a kindred soul.

While I don't necessarily disagree, Butch would HAVE to have results at any major program within 3 years as he's too old to be on any plan beyond that. Nobody is going to give a guy pushing 70 in year 3 the benefit of the doubt regarding patience. There will be some clown that speaks like the fraud in Penn State and looks like the empty suit at Texas Tech that people will want instead.

What "easy money" are you babbling about? Shapiro checked out as a legit businessman. Again, go read the FBI report. They themselves had a long delay in the case because after they got initial info that he was dirty, their entire case went cold for a full year because they could not find a shred of evidence against him. This occurred after the whole check incident. As far as anyone knew in the administration, Shapiro was an obnoxious loudmouth jerk, but a legitimate businessman who was donating to the school. If a school is going to not accept checks from any rich person that is obnoxious, that would eliminate half of the rich people.

The Donna apologists always try to draw this phony parallel between the FBI and a criminal investigation and what the school should have realized. The onus on our administration wasn't to prove or even realize the criminality of his business practices. Their responsibility and failure was to monitor his interactions with the players and any idiot would have easily realized a) that he was extremely bad news and b) that his level of donations to the program wouldn't have justified any leniency. They were a complete disgrace in doing any due diligence in trying to gauge the character of someone they absolutely knew was interested in not only giving money but, more importantly and dangerous to the program, wanted to socialize with kids- most of which weren't even of legal drinking age. It's cool though. You and your buddy in "Heel Country" can keep moving the goal posts on where we can criticize Little Donna.

It's curious that Special Agent R. Lannard Shannon knew enough to know that Sh1tzero was a con man that UM should avoid, yet the apologists are willing to cut the upper echelon of the administration all kinds of slack.

I can only assume Donna suffered from an extreme lack of intellect and cannot be held to any accountable because of diminished capacity.

Let's see if we can explain it better. When a person runs up to you in a bowling ally and thrust a $50K check into your inspecting hands, that is easy money. Donors do not throw money at you. Rick people dole out $$$ painfully. You have to "earn" it from them. They always get something in return. If the money comes to you "easy" is it almost always dirty money. Earned or inherited money is not parted with "easy". That is the red flag people who care will look for. Greedy people with borderline criminal natures like Donna just say "more please".

Pure ridiculous BS and a complete rewrite of history and what the administration did or didn't know. Facts aren't relevant to you because you hate Shalala, so you'll twist anything anyway to suit your agenda. But while you can have your own opinion, you can't have your own facts.

More history rewriting. Shannon in no way knew he was a con man. He simply did not like the guy because he felt he was a bad influence on the players, and someone who could get them into trouble. Completely different things.

Nonsense. Donors give surprise gifts. It happens at other schools as well. It is quite typical. To say otherwise is simply a lie.

More history rewriting. Shannon in no way knew he was a con man. He simply did not like the guy because he felt he was a bad influence on the players, and someone who could get them into trouble. Completely different things.

So you are verifying our argument, Radio knew and felt that he was bad news and could get his players in trouble but you justify the troll as a University president not knowing or feeling this because her hand was out. GTFOH

Hanging out with someone vs. accepting donations from that person are completely unrelated things. So you can "GTFOH".

..and that due diligence was done.

Pure ridiculous BS and a complete rewrite of history and what the administration did or didn't know. Facts aren't relevant to you because you hate Shalala, so you'll twist anything anyway to suit your agenda. But while you can have your own opinion, you can't have your own facts.

You're a real gem, princess. Wow. The good ol' "You're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts." copout. If you take a break from reminiscing about Donna's glorious tenure to actually read the entry you're claiming is BS then you also might understand that your reply is as about as coherent as a Randy Shannon press conference. What exactly are you taking issue with? I said the school obviously didn't do its due dilligence in merely observing Shapiro's desire to and actual socializing with teenagers. Are you claiming that they did and were aware of his social interactions with them? That would be an ever bigger indictment then as it would deem Donna and her cohorts not inept but dangerously negligent. Your defense of the admin is what is BS in this thread as you seem to try to claim that they were informed (when it suits your argument) and then that they weren't in other instances. The constant FBI parallels are a joke and you know it.

Yes. Hanging out is virtually meaningless compared to taking money. The first can be as innocent as merely being socially polite but the second is ALWAYS serious! You just hung your own argument. Simply put, as bad a HC as Randy was, had he been president of The U instead of Donna, we could have avoided the worst scandal in ncaa history. End of story.

Nonsense. Donors give surprise gifts. It happens at other schools as well. It is quite typical. To say otherwise is simply a lie.

Please find me one picture of such a surprised other than your hero's. A lie is claiming Donna was a good president, now that is a lie.

The accepting of a donation from a booster at the time thought to be clean is not the reason for the scandal. The scandal was based on what the players were doing behind everyone's backs.
