UNC says it was coaching

So I just rewatched the game AGAIN, to make sure I wasn’t in disbelief. This game was part players, but mostly on the staff. I blame the players for poor tackling form, but our DEs took themselves out dang near each play. The LBs flowed w the DEs crashing, and it was nothing but green on cut back lanes. By the time LBs & S’s reacted, they were too far out the play. So it wasn’t really bad angles, vs. our players completely out of position trying to rush up field & getting washed out each & every time.

Couple that w/ the unsuccessful delayed blitzes that UNC was prepared for, & what we saw was a bludgeoning. I also think having Searels & Mack Brown who saw first hand Diaz’s def at work for 3 yrs, up close & personal....which has not changed in philosophy, hurt us tremendously.
I was sitting in an end zone seat, and the holes were massive, literally had NC offensive linemen go through gaps on the first and second levels with no one to block :

God bless you for having the stones to watch that again

Bro; I can’t even imagine how it looked from that angle! 🤮

We were getting blown off the ball. 2nd level had no hope, either they were out of position or getting washed out. I literally never seen anything like it; even when Taylor ran over us in ‘18 or Cook running through us. It was amazing to see the lack of containment, integrity, & how much prime real estate was available to UNC RBs.

Manny made some comments that I had to fact check. This team was not mentally exhausted. They got smacked in the mouth, couldn’t swing back & quit. Matter of fact, in the game thread I said this is what giving up looks like.

I couldn't believe what i was seeing talked about a helpless feeling :

You know one thing expose this year, there really is a lot of bad coaching going around : especially on the defensive side

I think thats true for all of CFB. I just don't think w the way offenses perform now and how the game has changed that well ever get back to that dominant defense. UGAs D, by and large, has been elite and they got SMOKED by the two good teams they've played. Bama got smoked on D by ole miss earlier on and will prolly let up a ton of yards and points to UF. the issue for us is that we let lesser teams do well against us before we even adjusted or in UNCs case, never adjusted or even showed up. for uM, a change is clearly needed on the d side of the ball

it wasn't just the game plan, it looked like they had no idea ( coaches ) on how to stop the bleeding: there was Manny, Blake and a third coach standing by themselves talking: the safeties & CB's were in a separate group waving their arms, the linebackers and DL were in a separate group just quiet : I am telling you it was a hopeless feeling in that stadium :
I was there and that was my thoughts. The players were pumped during warmup. But I'd say after the 3rd td it seemed hopeless on the side lines. After the pick any chance of the players giving a **** left.

I agree with what they are saying upfront...

BUT I will say this again...I've never seen 3 worse performances than Carter/Bolden/Ivey put up at the second level of run defense in my life...Any comparable performance I've seen is when a big power SEC backs and run games play Sun Belt/CUSA/MAC out of conference....Couch wasn't great, Hall wasn't great, but at least they tried, took reasonable angles and made some hits, forced a guy out of bounds, forced a play back in, etc...Amari Carter had THE SINGLE WORST GAME A COLLEGE FOOTBALL SAFETY COULD HAVE

Carter was never a safety. His hs recruit film told you that. I have no idea why they put a player who is not quick or good in space at safety. He has no range at all. It makes absolutely no sense.

It's what most fans have been saying - coaching has been a significant issue. Manny's defensive system is feast or famine. Once you face a competent running team, you run into issues. UNC was able to run the counter multiple times and was getting 20+ yard chunks. I could accept getting gashed a couple of drives, but there was never any adjustment.

I'm not taking anything away from UNC, but Mack Brown didn't exactly run a clinic. Manny never adjusted and he kept going to the well. If I were Brown, I would've done the same **** thing to, it obviously worked.
I heard it with my own ears...Manny said we go in at halftime and make adjustments. They don’t have the ability to do it on the fly....jv coaching staff.

I re-watched most of the game. Idk what your definition of blown off the ball is...but I didn't see a game where our DLine looked physically out matched. I saw a game where in more plays than not, if you pause when the QB is handing the ball off, we have 2-3 guys already past the LOS and outside of the gap the play is going to because they knifed inside with no LB's to fill the alley.

Blown off the ball as in our LBs were swallowed up, as in inside, outside, holes were wide open. As I said, our DEs, particularly Phillips washed himself out the play many time, but let’s not act like UNC didn’t get second level a lot.

I don't get this. If your scheme is that dramatically flawed, there is no half time adjustment you can make. Your basically screwed.

You can't install a new scheme in the 30 minutes you're in the locker room. You need a spring camp and tons of repetitions until the scheme is natural and your reads become automatic.

Half adjustments are for tweaking. What happened against UNC was more than a tweak.

The DE on the play side would crash and get trapped by pulling G. The problem was the backside DE in poor trail Technique, DT’s reacting slow to the pulling OL and rushing up the field, and DB/LB reacting slow and taking bad angles
The DE is supposed to crash versus counter. That wasn't the problem. The problem was, they kept running up-field and getting kicked out.
