Among the worst in the country. I would have to check before I say they are the absolute worst, but it's certainly possible.

Title ix is bull**** IMO. I just don't see the equality of having half as many D1 men sports as female D1 sports.
Men's sports shouldn't be punished because Football is the real money maker, and requires so many players. Honestly, Football shouldn't even count under title ix. It should just have to do with all other sports.

These figures are useless. First, something might be reported as a direct football expense at one school and yet not at another - i.e. significant utility expenses for stadium/facilities, groundskeeping, etc. Along this line, a fair number of schools, especially in the SEC, also run their athletic programs throughout outside non-profit corporations. Then, throw in the skewed cost of scholarships, which isn't real money.

Miami list an expense, alone, of $16.2 mill for student-athlete costs/scholarships. Yet Boston College, where the cost of a scholarship is equal or higher to Miami, list all of its football expenses as only 19.9 mill. Stanford list all its football expenses as only 20.8 mill.

Alabama (41.7 mill) and Auburn (49.6 mill) list football expenses that are more than double the amount spent by Ohio State (23.3 mill), Fla (23 mill) Tenn (21.6 mill), Miss St (15.3 mill) . . . don't think so.

This is an exercise universities are required to do for the federal government, but other than the basic reporting is very misleading.

If this team brought in more money this wouldn't be a huge issue , still a semi issue because we're cheap ...but you can be competitively frugal and successful. ...but that would require a competent administration. .which do not have
 
Title 9 is such a drain on athletic budgets. It's the anchor that mires things in one place and prevents the self sustaining sports from maximizing their potential.

UM is spending $28 million this year, they are right up there on that list. We should be getting more bang for the buck.

I don't believe those numbers are anywhere near truthful, but if they were, we would be the worst-run athletic department in the country for having spent that much money on a sub par football program. Eesh.

UM spends ~$18 million a year on its football program. That is top 10% of D1 universities. Its not as much as Ohio State, ND, Alabama, LSU and a few others but its the same about of money as UGA, Tenn, USC, and many other successful football programs. Interestingly, its my understanding that the Athletic Department is charged full boat UM tuition for every athletic scholarship. Tuition is $45K a year for UM, that means that the Athletic Department has to pay the University $3.825 million dollars every year for its football team. Lets use UGA as a comparison. Annual tuition & fees at UGA is $15K. So assuming that UGA charges their athletic department full boat, that's only $1.275 million a year. That gives UGA a $2.5 million advantage over UM. ****, that equates to TWO very highly qualified coordinator salaries.

I think they're counting the rent we pay to Sun Life Stadium in that $18 million figure.

You gotta keep in mind that 99% of universities own their own stadiums, so they don't have this added cost.
 
private school.. I dont think you will find true numbers. To me its pretty clear the school does not have near the same money as other school do. Think of ticket sales alone. Some schools can charge 30k just to be on some list that allows you to get premium tix. Some have 100k avg attendance per year.

You can see it. Golden would be gone at most big schools. Miami does not have the money others do. Does not help when you have caustic fans that refuse to buy anything. Thats part of the reason Golden is still here.

You're not alone, but it's completely irrelevant. Title IX exists so you have to comply, just as every other program does. More importantly, you need to adjust so you can properly fund the football program to keep it in the upper echelon.

But it's easier for a really big school to comply with Title IX, because if they have an enormous athletic program, they've got a big enough student body to have lots and lots of different sports.
