UM???

I am one of if not the oldest poster on this board. Not ging to live in total fear. I have not stoped any normal activities except for attending sporting eents and that is only because there are none for for the sports I like. I wear my mask if about the only change in lifestyle. Do not exercise. That is what doing chores like mowing my yard is for. Only weights I lift is a glass of beer in my local bar. Let the kids be kids. If I catch it my fault or not being more careful. Meanwhile as previously stated not going to live a life of fear. If I was afraid would never get on a road in a car. That is more dangerous as far as I am concerned

Hypothetically speaking only but let's say these kids all lined their nostrils with a thin protective coating of decent quality Miami cocaine and did a temperature check prior to entering any group socializing events. Perhaps require sunglasses even at night as protective eye gear? We just got to think a little outside of the box here, gentlemen.

This situation was lost the moment we didn't prepare for something we knew was coming and calling it a hoax. We're never gonna agree nor are all people gonna follow what is recommended. I say proceed to somewhat normal with wearing mask and sanitizing. Then hope a cure is discovered soon.

The 68-69 Hong Kong Flu pandemic was still active I believe.

Yeah, and it killed dozens.

But seriously:

"The CDC estimated that about 34,000 to 100,000 people died in the U.S; most excess deaths were in those 65 and older. For this pandemic, there were two geographically-distinct mortality patterns. In North America (the United States and Canada), the first pandemic season (1968/69) was more severe than the second (1969/70)."

Sometimes we have to listen to our Street Pharmacist.

This is happening everywhere and it's not surprising. The question is what will University Presidents do if/when they have have a community outbreak of Covid-19 on campus?

I guess people on here don’t follow “only in dade” on IG.
Tbere is a reason why numbers peaked here after nyc.
Fake news. It was the protests in New York. Not the 42 Memorial Day weekend parties I was invited to or restaurants in Dade and Broward doing their best imitation of bars that don't care about fire marshall capacity rules.

Idk what people expect? If the kids stay home they’ll be parting with their friends at home. What is the difference.

I think this is still the case, but the average age of death from Covid is older than the average age of death overall in the US. Point being while it sucks that older people are at such high risk, the college kids with no underlying conditions have great odds of not only surviving this but not even knowing they had it at all it they werent testing so much

Or the party buses full of Locals and tourist drinking and dancing with no masks all over this city. Not to mention a ton of weddings went on like nothing happened.

"I have my guys take pictures of people that don't wear masks and send it to us. We want to be the ones that show ... our guys were practicing with over 100 degree heat index out there, our first morning practice. it's blazing out there. If they can run around in a helmet and shoulder pads, I promise you anyone can wear a mask. It's the easiest thing we can do."

I was on summer break from UM sitting on my front porch just hanging out listening to music. My buddy Steve from Tarrytown, NY calls me and says he's going to Woodstock and did I want to go. I knew it was going to rain and the last thing I wanted to do was sit in a field in the rain. I turned him down....Nobody, and I mean nobody, where we lived (neither Steve's area nor mine in NJ) knew about any flu pandemic. If there was one the news never got to us. So, Steve packed up his car and his 10 person tent and headed up to Woodstock with his brother. If you ever saw the original documentary movie Woodstock, you would have seen his big, yellow, tent about a half dozen or more times as the cameras panned the fields. To this day I never regretted going. I'm sure it was fun for some but at least I didn't end up with an ******* full of mud.

You have to understand that in 68/69 there was no such thing as facebook, twitter, etc. People just didn't communicate that way. If you didn't watch the news, read a newspaper or listen to news on the radio you were pretty much in the dark. College kids, during the summer worked to make money to spend during the school year. Life was a LOT different then. Yes, there was a worldwide pandemic; but unless you knew someone who was infected....life went on as usual.

A lot of people didn't know about the Asian Flu pandemic in 57-58 either. The 2009 swine flu was also a pandemic.

You're a wise man. Thanks for the perspective...

Only mistake made was letting a dumbass record party.

Masks don’t really work anyways. They’re mainly to keep you all scared and to refrain from doing things human beings do, like smile at a stranger or hug your friends or shake hands.

a lot more people are catching on that the jig is up. I’m at a resort at Palm Coast. There’s a municipal mandate that I can confirm very few people on property are following. Young and old from all over Florida and elsewhere. Even saw 4 dudes on property from Fire Department. No masks.

so I for one am pouring a beer to celebrate these young Miami patriots for exercising their freedom to not just party, but to party hard the American way (also so I can get a buzz).
