UM students just get it.

Our students don't care that much. That is the real problem. It honestly angers me.

Not going to be politically correct but I'd venture to say our current student body cares more about issues in China, South America and portions of Europe than collegiate athletics. It's moot though as student attendance really only matters in basketball for us. And even that's freakin' sad as I've been to games at The BUC against teams like Carolina and have students outside ask me what's going on in there.

Are you saying students a Miami are more academically interested than students at Michigan, which is a significantly more prestigious university? LoL no chance. This idea that Miami is on some elite academic level needs to be squashed; we are a middle of the road school akin to aTm and Clemson.

Has nothing to do with academics (but please don't ever compare us to Clemson) but to a much much much smaller student body that has become increasingly more "worldly". Just talking demographics and actual size here. Again, all moot when it comes to football attendance as if we're relying on them to account for real attendance numbers then we've already lost the battle.

Miami has 15% international students. USC who fired their coach halfway thru last year has 12%. Michigan State, an elite program right now using our scheme on defense, has 12%. Washington who hired a coach we'd all cream for has 11%. Michigan and OSU have 7%.

So you are saying the reason Miami football fans cant get an AD or coach fired compared to Michigan is b/c we have 8 percentage points more international students? What exactly is in those 3 percentage points over USC that makes us so apathetic, and them so willing to **** can Lame Kiffin at the airport? Please tell us. SMFH.

Here's the real answer: this school hired Randy and Al to first and foremost graduate and educate the players, and keep them out of the news. Why would Shalala want to fire a coach who is putting up elite grad rates? Thats what she chose him for! This dumb **** had to be twisted into a pretzel to concede to letting Randy go, and only after the shameful USF loss which she hedged on. The admin is not being truthful to you or me or anyone who spends money to see the Canes win.

If somehow she accepts canning Golden, another "search committee" will be hired to sift through candidates who have winning records with tops in the country APRs. And when that search recommends a bunch of wet noodle coaches, the same morons here will cry "we have no money" and "no one wants to coach here".

As frustrating as it is, the reason students don't care because there hasn't been anything worth cheering for. Not only are most of our students from all over the country, the team hasn't been a perennial powerhouse to the point where kids come itching to go to the games and such. Only way to turn that around is to build this program back up to where it needs to be (students were barely alive for our period of dominance) and create a better gameday atmosphere and for the love of God build a stadium closer to campus.

Of course I wish that the average student would support the team no matter what and be a real fan, its just most of these peeps aren't like that and its frustrating as ****, thats just the reality of the situation

I'm glad you brought this up...the excuses we use are unbelievable to get things done around here.

DING DING DING!!!! When the Canes won the title in 2002, I was there visiting my frat and it was live as ****! The student body felt like it was 50k deep. TBH, I didn't know Miami had a small student body until like the last 10 yrs (when we became neutered). The support was amazing. Everytime we pledged someone from Miami back in the day, it was popping b/c the U was the only school to talk about in the nation. Now, we are a shell of our former selves. These new students don't know anything else but mediocrity.

No it's not. The real problem starts at the top

Most human beings are followers. You have to grab them by the short hairs and make go where you want them to go, and convince them that it's in their best interest to do so. All great leaders, in every human endeavor, succeed in doing this. Is there a George S. Patton or Steve Jobs in our future?

Among the issues with the students.

Gameday shuttles suck, each one is like a rolling crypt that is policed and the kids can't bring/smuggle much of anything with them.

The few groups of students that organize and drive themselves can't accommodate everyone.

Shuttles begin to bring kids back to campus at halftime. Which the alienated, tight budget, noon dehydrated and bored ones can't wait to board.

University Narcs fluck with their gameday experience @ that shltty lot. Never knowing when they'll be called in w/video of rowdiness.

They're sectioned in the absolute hottest, most uncomfortable (N/W) location in that mid-day microwave. Back in the day, the S/E corner of the OB was prime, many bypassed it for WEZ activities.

The band (bless their hearts) aren't doing them any favours....and often find themselves alone during the post game alma mater.

In a nut shell....Sun lifeless sucks, the gameday experience sucks and the students have been reduced to ornaments to reduce the emptiness for televised appearances. That and stop nickel-and-diming their Student Cane Cards.

My first act as AD would be the purchase or rental of a crap load of below and protection from University narcs and the local Gestapo.
shopping

A few for season ticket holders as well....or anything that arrives with a bikini.

Well, what can the students do that would really influence James?

Waterboard him?

The same students that decided AQM should be ostracized for defending his kid and doing what any man would do? Yeah they suck, I agree.

70% of our students and recent alums are clowns who have no clue what UM football was all about.

well ... don't generalize all the students. there are sensitive narcs at every school. in my experience all my friends, etc. were hype as **** going to the games

Jesus reading about that gameday experience in Sun Life is just depressing. The OB was probably the easiest place to drink at of all time.

Sounds like Donna's nerds took care of that bit of fun too. School sounds like a miserable place to go these days.

I graduated from UM not too long along and I really enjoyed my time there. I just didn't listen to most of the kids' terrible opinions on football.

What does Michigan know about being an elite academic institution though? I mean, it's not like they dwarf us in terms of academic prowess yet still really try to put an elite product on the field......oh wait.

Yea they are really trying to put an elite product on the field hiring brady hoke and a pizza guy to run their athletic department in the last 5 years...
