UM students just get it.

Our students don't care that much. That is the real problem. It honestly angers me.

Not going to be politically correct but I'd venture to say our current student body cares more about issues in China, South America and portions of Europe than collegiate athletics. It's moot though as student attendance really only matters in basketball for us. And even that's freakin' sad as I've been to games at The BUC against teams like Carolina and have students outside ask me what's going on in there.

Actually, most kids just care about Ultra, Other similar concerts, clubbing, drugs, and alcohol

Michigan fans got the perfect gift with that dopey fake concussion their ****** QB suffered. The fans used that pretext to jump all over Brandon and Hoke under the guise of health and safety of the kids instead of the real issue.

Our problem is Fake James is to inept and anemic to even have an opinion on anything, so he won't hang himself like Brandon did.

Ironically, it was guys like Stephen Ross who had the most influence on this. You know, the guy who owns the Fins and SLS? The dude has donated hundreds of millions to Michigan. We'll see what the big money folks at Miami want to do, but Miami has nothing within Michigan's hemisphere regarding money.

You can't even put Michigan and Miami in the same boat in regards to athletics. Also, public v. private, Stephen Ross as a donor, most wins in CFB history, actually being the king of their state undisputed for years, and a very broad alumni base. No comparison.

Absolutely true but those likes also mesh with the non-Chinese portion of my original statement. Nonetheless, I don't even blame kids that aren't football fans for not caring. Those kids used to actually show at the OB for a number of games because it was an event in an event town. Hard to sell a kid from Italy or Brazil on why he needs to come a nooner in Miami Gardens for a sport he probably doesn't even fully understand. Our fanbase will always derive its real strength in numbers from non-alumni locals so that in itself kinda limits the actual influence we (as fans as a whole) have with the administration (incorrectly so).

I truly believe that the only way Al is gone is if Blake is gone too. The best we are going to do is have a new D cord if Blake is still here

it's only one of two ways Al leaves, a) a non-traditional football program (say Rutgers or KU) who have $ is willing to take a flyer on Golden or b) Blake leaves too (like you said).

we can fly all the banners we want about firing Golden...but the real problem lie up top and they need to feel all our wrath (alumni, casual fans, students) to make a true change.

Are you saying students a Miami are more academically interested than students at Michigan, which is a significantly more prestigious university? LoL no chance. This idea that Miami is on some elite academic level needs to be squashed; we are a middle of the road school akin to aTm and Clemson.

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, Ray Liotta, Sly Stallone, Gloria Estafan, Bruce Hornsby, Pedro Gomez, Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, NFLU, Drew Rosenhaus, Mickey Arison, James Greco.....those are just a few of the mega millionaires who have donated and contributed to the school. I don't know why we have this thing about being a small school when we have multi-multi millionaires that are apart of our alumni base. Also, the point was that the students and the alumni took their argument straight to the top. what does size of an student body have to do w/ anything?

Has nothing to do with academics (but please don't ever compare us to Clemson) but to a much much much smaller student body that has become increasingly more "worldly". Just talking demographics and actual size here. Again, all moot when it comes to football attendance as if we're relying on them to account for real attendance numbers then we've already lost the battle.

Yes, Stephen Ross ***** out 300 mill to give to Michigan when he's bored. He also is invested in the athletics program. Ever heard of Charles Munger? Warren Buffet's right hand man who donated 110 mill to build a new grad student housing facility recently. Billionaires, not multimillionaire. It really isn't event close. Miami is a small time school. And size of the student body has EVERYTHING to do with it. More students equal more alumni. More alumni means broader donor base. It's just a really ****** comparison. If you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you. Out of those donors that you named, who has donated over 100mill to the university? Who is active in athletic department decisions behind the scenes. Ross can and will influence the michigan coaching search. No one on that list can do so for Miami.

I really doubt that Miami is more "wordly" than Michigan, whatever that's supposed to mean.

Showers what it means is , Miami has a student base that is largely pulled from Latin America and the Northeast while the kids in the northeast may like football they are very academically inclined and it clearly plays second third on their college experience. Secondly, having graduated from Miami I can tell you that the football team success or failure doesn't influence students the way it does other campuses. Miami academically is a lot like Boston college and tulane in terms of profile.

So where is Miami getting it's money? I understand your line of reasoning, but if our alumni base is even smaller than Michigan's (which it is), wouldn't the Admin try to do EVERYTHING in it's power to make sure they are happy so that their limited resources are at a steady flow? If my 1m I donate to my smaller school have the same power as your 100m donation to a bigger school, I still have power, correct? The effect is still the same, right?

Yes. Don't even try to claim that student body demographics are the same now as they were even 10 years ago. One easy route Donna has taken in the efforts to jump that all important academic rating is to bring in wayyyyyy more foreign students. Nothing wrong with that at all but don't claim that doesn't influence support and interest in athletics. But again, it's irrelevant outside of these kids not showing up to basketball games on-campus.

^^^THIS^^^

Their student body is 43,710. Ours is 16,935.
They average well over 100k for every game. We average 40k? Maybe?

Having a few famous people throw up the U is great and all but they're not dropping millions every year to better the program. Expectations for their athletic department are, unfortunately, a lot higher than ours.

As some other people said, our students are just rich private school kids from Jersey and NY who are too preoccupied in living the Miami lifestyle.

I don't know what the admin's mindset is regarding athletics. However, it seems pretty stagnant and slow moving from all intents and purposes. Miami definitely has donors, but it doesn't seem like those donors are throwing their big donations towards the athletics programs. Stephen Ross gave Michigan Athletics $100mill alone last year. Can you recall seeing someone throw money to Miami athletics like that? And no, $1M to Miami doesn't have the same affect as $100m to Michigan. The problem is that Miami still has to compete with big time athletic programs, so they're lack of support doesn't proportionally balance out. It just sets them back further in the arms race.

I hear what you're saying, bro....seriously you make facinating points and I in no shape or form tried to imply to that Miami and Michigan are equivalent to one another in alumni base or student body. My point is that when these guys became fed up, they took it upon themselves to make sure the Admin knew there were going to be consequences. My point is that in order for change to be made, the Admin must feel that there are consequences that will be had if things do not change. That can only be done by protest and monies being held.

I go to school at UM right now. The students care most about getting high gpas, work expierence, and partying. Or some combo of the three. The foreign students that go here came here to party. Outside 20 schools, hard to find a majority of the student body who are well informed about current issues in the US and the qorld
