UM (Michigan) in big trouble ?

The policy manual you're speaking to lays out the policies for game-tape film, how to film, what film to use, when to send it to opponents/NFL films/officiating etc.
Exactly, and guess where the violation happened and how the punishment was reasoned with, as stated in the article. Exactly in the policy manual that is in direct accordance with the rules.

We broke the rules, sure, but not rules of videotaping the opposing team at that point. The Jets and Packers were both caught taping, but they were just let go as a result. You were allowed to tape the opposition by the existing rules, just from a designated area to prevent the actual game staff to transport information onto the field.

The more ironic thing is that this was ignored by the league a few years later:

And I don't care too much to be honest, we were more successful post Spygate. I mentioned it simply because it's similar to the misunderstanding of rules that happen to take place here.

It just keeps getting worse. So this guy is likely the reason Gattis won the Broyles and got Mario interested in him. Does Michigan have the death penalty?
I find it to be highly unlikely that the NCAA will impose the death penalty on Michigan. It's one of College Footballs most traditional programs and they can't erase them off the map. SMU got it once and the consequences were so bad, they were compared to a Nuclear Bomb in WW2.

The only way I can see them getting the death penalty is if they find out that high-level administrators paid for it. The guy received some big bags for doing it and paying for tickets, and the money has to come from somewhere. Its already bad that every coach knew about it.

Bowl ban and scholarship ban probably happening already.

Again, reread article 9 of the bylaws. Its cut and dry.

The 2006 memorandum put to bed any ridiculous 'misinterpretation' of the rule - that it somehow excluded taping signals based on the location of game film cameras, and the Pats kept cheating anyway.

You can't tape signals, you cant bug your opponents and you cant tap their phones, ANYWHERE.

"that might aid a team during the playing of a game"

You marked it for me so I don't have to mention it. All-22 literally exists and team personnel films All-22 from a designated area. The punishment was based on the rules I specifically mentioned, whether you agree with it or don't agree with it. That's what literally happened. The Patriots filmed from the wrong spot and the punishment was issued because of the wrong spot. End of story, no more derailing.

Nope. The 'wrong location' was a red-herring birthed by Patriot nation and nobody else. Just reading the NFL constitution reveals it to be false.

"This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field" - Roger Goodell

It's pure fantasy to chalk this up to a procedural infraction lol. 750k... loss of 1st round pick...

It was a joke about sending the kid to the chair for sticking us with Gattis

Really curious how long it takes for the school to take some kind of action..... This is a real black eye for them

or the big 10 conference

if michigan beats penn state and ohio state, does the big ten hold them out of the conference title game? they have the power to do so even before NCAA stuff plays out

I don’t think anyone is ever getting the death penalty again the ncaa is weak asf right now

look i'll never root for ohio state, despite being up here in buckeye country and her family being buckeyes

but if ohio state wins this year and then ryan day gets in that press conference and answers a "what was they key to success today" question with " we changed our signs"

that would be epic

I waited to comment on this but if u think this is nothing or some agenda, people like @Coach Macho and others can tell u the advantage an opponent has if they know your signals. Its huge. So if Michigan broke the rules to get em. They need to be bammed. This is not buying kids gifts or practicing too much. It throws off the integrity of the game. Funny when they caught Clemson their results took a nose dive as well.
