Ty Simpson (is not yet in the portal)

He better not mean the Dolphins
This year is such a bad year for qbs (even #1 this year), that if Simpson is getting first round buzz, he needs to get gone already.
Next year, even with a really good year, he’ll likely get lost in the shuffle with draft eligible qbs next year.

He could have a great season with us and still fall lower next year than he would if he rolled the dice on the draft this year.

Besides Carr, who are we projecting as a surefire 1st round QB next year? Maybe Arch I guess. I’m not so sure next year’s draft looks a **** of a lot better than this one. People have mentioned guys like Sellers (complete project) and Sayin (lol, Day 3 talent at best)
Now add in the signing bonuses the picks in these spots will receive.

The signing bonus obviously can significantly impact year 1 compensation but the size of the contract is still the same because it’s prorated against it.

In the end, Simpson has to weigh the risk of going now and potentially missing out on a MUCH larger rookie contract, or going back to college and possibly having an injury or something tank his draft stock further than it stands right now.

Announcing this helps his negotiation leverage and allows him to appear like he

not necessarily - you need to look at the entire picture. that argument would only be for the short-term 1 year money.

looking end to end....what is the QB class like the next year? how many teams currently need QBs? how many will expect to need QBs next year? all that will impact draft slot and future pay. based on that info, where would you expect to go int he first round to see the total payout over 4-5 years.
I guess it depends on how confident you are that you can make it in the NFL. If I think I have got the skill, but my college resume is still a bit weak, I'd have no problem making a chunk of cash and increasing my draft stock. If I was hoping to draft higher than my actual ability just because it's a weak year for QBs, then sure, take the money and ride the pine.

Plus signing bonus. So dart went 25th and made about what 14 million this year
Signing bonus shouldn't be added on .... if he comes to Miami and gets drafted in the same spot next year he'll just get the same signing bonus. If he improves his draft stock the signing bonus difference is enormous.

Compare apples to apples mang.

Last year (2025), Jaxon Dart went #25 overall to the NY Giants. His contract was for 4 yrs $17m with another $9m as a signing bonus, and a potential 5th year option since he went first round. So, Dart made $13m his first year as a pro QB.

No NIL/revenue sharing is beating that number if a team tells Simpson's agent (yes, we will take your client in the first round). In order for Simpson to remove himself from the draft, his agent hasn't received any information/promise like that.
But how much would he had made if he stayed and now would be the #1/#2 QB in this years draft. Big difference between top5 pick and #25 pick.

Apples to Apples friend.

College teams are, by and large, willing to cover the first year salary as a way to get them to stay one more season.

The signing bonuses aren’t taken into account.
It's not apples to apples. Jaxon Dart made over $9m his first year in the NFL (salary plus signing bonus). You're claiming college NIL have to beat or match the base salary to equal what a first round pick would make from NFL and that is just incorrect.

If he goes in the top 5 he would have at least a $30m salary (over 4 years) and another $20m as additional signing bonus.

One thing i've learned about life - hard work usually pays off, but not always. Timing and luck play a role as well.

I know the jets and raiders are in the top 5 so there is always a chance that a team is stupid enough to waste a high pick on Simpson but nobody has him as a high pick.

Amazing.

You should be become a player agent in CFB.
