He better not mean the Dolphins
This year is such a bad year for qbs (even #1 this year), that if Simpson is getting first round buzz, he needs to get gone already.
Next year, even with a really good year, he’ll likely get lost in the shuffle with draft eligible qbs next year.
He could have a great season with us and still fall lower next year than he would if he rolled the dice on the draft this year.
Besides Carr, who are we projecting as a surefire 1st round QB next year? Maybe Arch I guess. I’m not so sure next year’s draft looks a **** of a lot better than this one. People have mentioned guys like Sellers (complete project) and Sayin (lol, Day 3 talent at best)
Now add in the signing bonuses the picks in these spots will receive.
The signing bonus obviously can significantly impact year 1 compensation but the size of the contract is still the same because it’s prorated against it.
In the end, Simpson has to weigh the risk of going now and potentially missing out on a MUCH larger rookie contract, or going back to college and possibly having an injury or something tank his draft stock further than it stands right now.
