Ty Simpson (is not yet in the portal)

I just don’t see UTenn as the landing spot for Simpson.

If he enters the transfer portal it’s because his draft stock isn’t high enough.

So, what’s UTenn going to do for it? What gap will that offense fill in for him that he couldn’t get in other places?

No doubt he would have the opportunity to win some games and put up some numbers, but will it be preparing you for the NFL? I don’t think so.

Other posters on here who are far more knowledgeable than me have talked about how their offense does not get you ready for the NFL. Why not go to a school that checks all the boxes?

And Ana De Armas and Scarlett Johansson are arguing over who gets to sleep with me first.
You too??

It is a weak QB draft class, however, I think teams are gonna look for veteran QB options. The success of Darnold, Mac Jones this year, and even Davis Mills keeping Houstons season a float, will convince teams that they can do the same.
Yup throw in Baker mayfield too… dudes who got tossed out early for the new shiny toy in the draft. Franchises might think best to find an old castaway then reaching for a QB.

Jordan Reid, ESPN’s draft analyst, does not have Simpson going in the first round in his latest mock draft.
I've seen a lot of potential landing spots for Ty if he does go pro.

Some think maybe Pittsburgh, as they have no succession plan for Rodgers. Some think Miami with Tua being pushed aside and not being sold on Ewers. I even saw the Rams as an option, with Stafford being 37 (38 in Feb) and only having 1 year left on his current deal. He's playing incredible ball right now but his cap hit is $48M next season and that's with $10M void years in 2027, 2028, 2029 and a $5M void year in 2030. If you restructure or extend him again, that's one **** of a cap hit for a 38 year old QB.

If not R1, these teams could always look to grab a QB in R2, as well as a team like Arizona (early R2) if they are done with Kyler, or Cleveland, who's QB room is an absolute mess with 2 guys who imo are not NFL starters.

How recent are these projections? Are they after Bama’s game vs Indiana?

Nothing this early is solid. I bet many NFL front offices haven't even done deep dives into film yet on many of these kids. I doubt one game against a good defense is going to make or break a draft slot, especially one he got hurt in. Dante Moore had a bad game against Indiana too.

Moore also played Indiana in October, not his last game of the season. And if you’re right, then every mock draft should have Simpson as high as #11 and I doubt the latest mocks will. He should return to college.

with how much top teams are willing to pay these QB's it's essentially an extra year to their NFL contract (money wise)... $4-5mil, and if you choose the right team, you can only help your draft stock... I still can't believe Ewers turned down probably $2.5-4mil last year to come back.. he literally could of only helped his draft stock from where he was chosen....

No way I can see him returning (with a high NIL) AND keeping Russell. Zero chance they're going to spend $6-7M on 2 QBs.

My guess is that Simpson is more likely to go pro than to return to Bama. At the end of the day, that would be a poor choice for him as guys with only one year of starts almost never do anything in the pros.

Wouldn't Russell transfer if Simpson stays? That leads to Simpson's options being transfer or NFL. With the logic you just explained about a year's experience, that makes a transfer his best option.

Now from the Miami side, we've heard very little portal news as I'd expect given we're on a title run. Even if we did have QB signed and ready to go, I doubt we'd hear anything until Friday at the very earliest.

Yes, Russell would leave if Simpson stays, imo. But, that's a big risk b/c Russell is supposedly very highly thought of and has been doing great in practice.
