Ty Simpson (has declared for the draft)

It doesn't look like we're even pursuing a center, so I believe we got our starter on the roster already. I'm sure the South Carolina kid commits if Bell pulls the trigger. I wouldn't necessarily count on LB either

I'm not worried about Edge, DT and Kicker. We will get guys there
A couple of things:

1. I agree, it doesn't appear that we are pursuing a center, but we still need a center. Brockermeyer played 99.9% of snaps at center this year. If the center is on the roster great (probably Rodriguez), we still need a center for depth in case Rodriguez, oh I don't know, sucks. Roddy was our depth for Brockermeyer. If Roddy starts, we need depth behind him.

2. "Im not worried about edge, DT, and kicker. We will get guys there". Great. My list is about getting guys there (ie at those positions).

Are we 1000% sure the South Carolina OT has to do with Bell and not Cantwell competition / depth?
Listen, I don't want to **** on our guys, and Bell is fantastic, but vs Ole Miss and their speed rushers, he did not put 1-2 round tape. Take the million and return. get one more year of coaching from the best in the biz, and then go late first round next year.

The concept of a reset in college football doesnt make sense. There is no draft where you can get better if you do worse.

In college football you need to go full throttle every single year. Every win is important. If a mediocre QB gets us to 9 wins instead of 6 with a reset qb, you take the mediocre qb all day because at 6 wins you lose all momentum as a program.

There is zero benefit to what you proposed.

*If* we are rolling with Emory, then we aren’t playing for anything except the ACC and a first round exit from the CFP.

What you don’t do with Emory is spend tons of money on any pieces that aren’t going to be here in 2027.

Instead you save that money and spend it this time next year. And make a huge portal splash.

That’s the reset.

Huh?
I don’t want to purposely neglect it.
It’s sad how it has been handled where it appears we need to pray for a miracle again.

But that miracle probably isn’t coming. And if that is the case, then you’re in a reset next year.

You aren’t actually competing for a national title with any of these QBs.
If pay attention to recruiting & roster, Mario sure as **** doesn’t see a reset next year. Roster is built to compete. Also, if pay attention, the ACC is getting raped in the portal. Top talent is going out & not coming in at anywhere near the same level.

Yeah. A roster that isn’t spending money on the top portal rentals and isn’t spending a ton to keep upperclassmen, is still competing for/winning the ACC.

We might play one Top 40 team next year in ND.
You could argue Pitt. Who we get at home.

The team is going to be fine with Emory during the regular season.

It’s just not going to be a special, and won’t have a hope of being special.

So when is the next time it can be special? That will be 2027.
I wouldn’t spend a ton on players that won’t be here in 2027, just to prop a team that has a real ceiling to what it can accomplish.

Even if it's Cantwell competition and Bell returns, that's a good problem to have
I think he's definitely depth as a swing tackle. Learn under the best in the biz, be ready to take over full time LT in 2027. Make 1.5m while in college and then get drafted in round 2-3 in 2027 draft

They said on the pod this morning it’s looking like bell might be gone. And he isn’t going 1st or 2nd round

May be way off, but Simpson strikes me as an SEC guy who cringes at the thought of playing for Miami. Yes, money talks. But I would’ve had a real hard time playing for UF when I was in school. Rational or not, I probably would’ve entered the draft rather than play for a team I hated growing up.
Beck was an SEC type guy who also happened to commit to Bama before ending up in UGA. Pretty SEC-centric, now playing for the title in the ACC.

I absolutely hate ND and UF. I'd be there with bells on for $6.5 million and chance to get experience bolstering my resume to be a first round draft pick, not just the best available in a crappy year.
I understand but there’s no guarantee he’ll be a first round pick next year. A lot can happen between now and then. And while $6.5mm is great, it’s way less than what he’s going to bank with a first round contract.

It'll be interesting to see. Cause if Bell leaves, we still have McCoy, Samson, Cantwell.

It'll all shake out for the better.

I’m sure they have a lil more info on a player actually with the team. Bell might be feeling himself with the playoff run
You really need to pay attention to the context they are using. They never said they heard hes leaning towards leaving now.

It was speculation based on how hes played and wether they think staying would actually raise his stock.

Siap

Looks like he has until Saturday to pull his name from NFL Draft which is after Portal closes

If he enters Portal would have to be Friday but guess if he didn't re-enroll at Bama he can just show up for classes at Miami
The portal is just to let all other teams know you are available and they can contact/negotiate. Nobody has to enter the portal to go to another team.
