TVD Quote

The 2 long TDs are unacceptable but in 2021, if you give up 21 points and hold a team to 4.75 YPP, that’s an excellent defensive effort. I know I’ll get clowned for it on here cause it’s just a feeding frenzy for Manny’s blood, but TVD is 10000% correct and the game being close had nothing to do with coaching. We outgained them by 240 yards, had 9 more first-downs, less penalties, were sacked less…..but turnovers (which have been proven to be a lot more random than people realize) are the great equalizer. They scored almost a third of their points with our defense on the sideline.

I criticize the coaches as much as anyone, but come on, you can’t blame them for three fumbles in 1st quarter. They were all after explosive plays. The staff put the team in position to beat GT soundly yesterday. Maybe the short yardage plays needed more creativity, but the players have to take responsibility too.

Especially when you know the team you're getting ready to play specializes in stripping the football.

Focus and discipline, or lack thereof, is on the coaches.

Emphasizing ball security and teaching ball security, is on the coaches.

Ball security is coached, there are drills for it.

The odd fumble here or there - nobody blames the coaches. But when you see a lot of mental mistakes in a game, including fumbling which is a mental mistake, who is that actually on? Yes it’s on the players but it’s also on the coaches. You can’t separate them.
 
Kid’s gonna need 400+ yds next week since our defense will give up at least 350+. Bigger picture, we’ve got to score TDs and not walk away with FGs (even if Borregales is 💯). Can’t lose next week to FSU. That game I will take a 1 point win. However, I really want to see us blow out a P5 opponent but don’t believe we will as we play down to lower competition.

The only one that could even be possible to thing of as a focus thing was Roosters and as Gogeta said in another thread he has been putting the ball on the ground since high school.

Almost like GT saw something on film and put an emphasis on stripping the ball. Some contact during practice would probably help remind them to secure the ball.

Sure, you can blame coaching for those fumbles yesterday. Why not?
Especially when you're getting ready to play a team that is well known for stripping the football. They're at the top of the list in the country over the past few years for fumble recoveries. That doesn't happen by accident.

We didn't look like a team that knew this when the game started We just didn't look like a team that was coached to protect the ball until it was 3 fumbles too late. Unfortunatey, we looked unprepared once again!

Let's face it fam. Our team shows up to play every week with superior talent and is consistently unprepared. Which is why we end up in dog fights with 3-5 teams. That's on the coaches. That's all on the coaches!

Manny is the king of getting way too excited about the littlest sh*t and completely losing sight of the big picture.

Look I get everyone was excited about Avantae getting that pick. But Manny, as he always does whenever something slightly positive happens, jizzed his pants and lost his virginity all over again on that one play.

Totally forgot it’s still the 1st quarter and we’re only up 2 scores. A slight nod of appreciation to Avantae, a walk over to the O, and a “it’s still a 2 score game, stay focused and end this f*cking game right now” type of message is what a real coach does. Instead the entire team was on cloud 9 and lost focus.
 
Its true. This was the first game other than FSU where we played and should have simply blown out the opponent. GT got 14 points off those turnovers. Thats a 28 point swing, and the 3 fumbles were after first downs or big plays. Then we also had a miss FG.

Can’t say they weren’t prepared when they scored 14 quick points. Fumbles were on the players, point blank.

the fumbling was on the players. period. Arroyo had 4 defenders punching the ball out of his arms. I challenge anyone to hold on with that happening.

Rooster and Rambo try to do too much sometimes. Their fumbles are on them.

No need to try and lay the blame on the coaches for this; there's enough other issues to give them blame for.

Both Knighton and Rambo were asked about their fumbles during their post game pressers. Knighton admitted he was being a little too careless with the ball not holding it up tight. Rambo said he just lost focus for a few seconds. **** happens.

I did notice that GT defenders were punching at the ball. Saw it several times including the Arroyo fumble. Even the wife said is that guy punching our guy.
 
It’s hard to win any game when you have 3 turnovers, one missed FG, two failed fourth down attempts (which are like turnovers) and 9 points scored by the GT defense.

I don’t recall any team winning with so many self inflicted mistakes. I will take the win, but the Canes must play better

Agree. I noticed it a few times after the fumbles. They didn't try to hide it.
