Miami practiced for the first time after spring break on Tuesday. While they were only in helmets, pads and shorts, several players stood out with explosive plays. I attended Tuesday’s practice and shared my thoughts on the CanesInSight Daily Podcast:

On Robby Washington getting snaps at CB: If you were listening to the Bank or reading the Bank going back a year ago, I mentioned the Miami coaches felt that this guy could be a premier cornerback. I agree with that...

Washington has a better chance of seeing the field at CB this year.

Too many WRs with the same skill set already in the room. Would be behind X, Ray ray, and Carr.

No smoke, D. How concerned are you about our defensive secondary? 1 being Legion of Boom and 10 being parking cones guarding the offense

"Hopefully, he takes that opportunity at cornerback to give that room something it doesn't have. There's some great athletes at receiver around his size. There's nobody in the cornerback room that has his kind of natural athletic ability and playmaking."

"Miami is at its best when you have some of your best athletes on defense. That's what Jimmy Johnson preached. Get your best athletes on defense. We've had corners that don't play other positions for a long time. When was the last time we've had corners that were dynamic?"

Next time one of yall wants to argue with me about the CB's on this team, just remember, those are D$'s words not mine...

LOL. I'm just trying to understand why anyone would argue with you on that point. You would have to be a real piece of Samsonite not to see what you have been talking about regarding the CBs.

The first time @DMoney mentioned how Robby Washington would be a great fit at CB I could see it immediately as it made perfect sense. I think this is a great move and I'm really pulling for Robby to take this opportunity and make the most of it.

D$ is absolutely right on the mark about the type of athlete Robby is and the fact that Miami was built on kids like this also returning kicks. Philly Bucks was a great CB and a gifted kick returner and we need to get back to having explosive CBs who have the ball skills to play offense. The steady infusion of high level talent over the past 2 years through Mario and staff's recruiting efforts is really starting to become apparent. We're not all the way there yet but when you go down the roster you can easily see the difference between this squad and the squads we have had here recently and going back nearly 20 years.

I've been extremely critical of Mario on game day but there is absolutely no question that the man knows how to build a roster. He has done a fantastic job in that regard and he doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon. With the addition of Matt Merritt and Chevis Jackson, the staff genuinely seems like they are all on the same page. After 2 years of a little trial and error it appears that Mario has put together a very good and very solid staff. Offseason hype notwithstanding there is something to the positivity and excitement this time. I truly believe we are beginning to see this team and program start to come together. There are still position groups that need to improve in terms of personnel and depth and still plenty of work to be done but I just can't shake that unmistakable feeling that tells you that......This is going to start to get fun very soon!!!!!! So bring on the Koolaid, fill the bathtub with it and give me a straw!

So safe to say spring portal is for cb and rb? Maybe a wr?

Hopefully we can get someone chevis feels good about from marshall that can fit right in without having to learn a whole new defense and play at this level of course

I can only speak for myself(since I don't remember if we ever discussed this)while I've clearly said what's MORE IMPORTANT for this team is a high end safety I don't think anyone would say we don't need a high end corner as well. Simply safety is FAR more relevant on each and every play to our success or failure. That won't change until we establish the safety position.

D, does Robby switching to CB lessen the urgency by the staff to grab another portal CB ?
Maybe D needs to clarify a lil more. As of RIGHT NOW Robbie hasn't switched positions at all. He's still getting plenty of burn at reciever as well. We're simply trying him out at corner because it's always been discussed he has a very high ceiling in several eyes at corner so we wanna see how it'll look if he does because there's no harm in trying that out in spring.
