Highlights Trust The Process......Again

It is not easy to be patient. Even though I know Mario is here for a long, long time. It just isn’t easy. I think most are trying.

But MT with this staff regardless of talent is really bad. I didn’t expect to win much this year but I expected the team to be tougher and more discipline. You don’t need the best talent or 3-5 years to be disciplined.

At this point in the year this is not a well-coached team and that is worrisome.

Butch finding diamonds in the rough had NOTHING to do with HUDL...SCOUT..etc...
He had no choice being down 30 schollies, no TV or Bowl etc...Give Butch a Brinks Truck and an Administration that worships him like Saban, and it wouldn't have been fair.
He benefited that those things didn’t exist! If they had other coaches from around the country that live further from SFL would’ve been on to guys that were able to fly under the radar because HUDL didn’t exist.

I know guys who from the 01 team from FL that sent his HS tape into Miami because that’s where he wanted to play and he didn’t get recruited anywhere else and Miami only knew about him because he sent the tape in there lol.

He was a contributing player on the team.

He’s being paid like a top 10 coach and he was ranked as a top 15-20 coach in the last two years of CBS’s top CFB coaches. He’s a little overpaid right now, but he also just signed the contract. Wait 2-3 years and he’ll be out of the top 10 and probably around 15-20.

I don’t know why people hold it against him that he got paid. No matter who we brought in we were going to need to pay up to get a guy with pedigree or credentials.

Florida got G5 Billy for less because he hasn’t won a P5 conference title and didn’t have Phil Knight funding his program.

If we went after Billy instead people would be ****ed that we went after someone that had never done it at a real program blah blah

The rational fans I think knew it would take time and we knew of Mario’s limitations as a coach.

Last week was ******* awful but sometimes **** happens in college football and even though I’m disappointed I’m not writing off his program until he has had time to build it and get his guys in there.
Yeah I mean I’m not writing the guy off

Also not to play the “oh I told you so” card but I was never wild about him being the guy. This season is playing out about how I expected until the game last week

But I’m more interested in what happens now

He’s here for a long long time so I’m really not going to wear myself complaining about how he’s doing in game 4 of his contract

Stop it....Butch and his assistants knew ALL about the Talent, not only in Fl...but all over the country. Hence, the 2000-2001 Canes.
My advice to you...go count how many Great players that Butch recruited outside of Florida. He didn't just recruit Dade and Broward hard. He recruited the country hard.

It's an unknowable on Butch, but let me ask this. Were Butch's recruiting powers so great that he could get a 5 star defensive lineman to turn down $5M from the Aggies to come to Miami? Maybe on offense if he ran a spread he could negate the receiver issue, but in an NIL world can Butch Davis at the peak of his powers make a dent in A&M's recruiting on defense? Or does Prime Butch come with $50M in petty cash to spread around to his recruits?

2022 is a different world to 1999.

Let me ask YOU this!

When we were under NCAA sanctions - where were you?

Five stars? No five stars were coming to UM in those days! Soldinger said they didn't even have enough players to scrimmage at one point - it was that bad.

Butch found nuggets. Pure gold. He only had a few recruits at a time he could recruit - so he had to get grown-assed men - who wanted a chance. To prove themselves. To win.

They coached them up - but they coached them to be self-starters. That's why Clappy could sit on his *** - and win the National Championship.

What did he ask Reed, going in at halfttime? "What do you think I should say?" Reed: "I wouldn't say much Coach - we're ahead!"

At the end of this season - we should be rid of half our team. Douche this team good.

You act like Butch later couldn't do much for other teams. Neither could Schnellenberger. Neither could Erickson. Neither could Clappy. Only JJ.

Teams, locations, and Coaches - only the perfect mix - combined together - reach synergistic levels unreachable anywhere else.

Mario wants to change EVERYTHING. Oline? Sure. Dline? Absolutely.

Offense? You have to be a dumbass to change from what works here.

Butch knew both sides of it.

Butch greatly benefited that he lived in a time before Hudl too. A lot easier back then to find “diamonds in the rough” because the recruiting services and industry was wayyy different back then.

South florida has probably the highest concentration of elite talent in the country. Now everyone can watch and plan trips because they saw a kid on film but back then film wasn’t as good or as available
Easier of more difficult 🤔

No excuses for the loss last week, one of the more embarrassing losses I can remember but I trying to take it all in stride. We knew Mario had warts we just saw one pop up earlier than we thought. I was never 100% sold Mario was going to take us to the promised land but I was sold he was going to make us a respectable program again because he can recruit and knows what a top tier program looks like.

In 2-3 years, we will be absolutely loaded and we will win. The concern will continue to be bad preparation and game day coaching. Some of the preparation will naturally get fixed with better talent and culture but we will be always dumbfounded with inexplicable losses. This one was just really bad and early.

People keep assuming he'll be able to recruit well or at an elite level but I want to see if he can maintain this class before I dare have hope of that. The real downside of everybody hating us (including us) & our abject failure on field, is we don't get the same leeway that other programs might.

We get negatively recruited in a way no other team does, even by our own fans who "want to keep it real." I feel it's going to be way too difficult to recruit at an elite level for Mario. He may recruit well enough to win 10-11 games including a bowl win but not enough to win championships.

Even with the increase in funding, our NIL doesn't seem enough to buy a championship, which is what he will need if Mario doesn't want to adapt. I'm all for working hard but that shouldn't preclude you from being smart.

I don't know, at this point, if Mario will be allowed a mediocre season or two & still get recruits. Or even keep the booster support that he has. At this point I could see him maintaining top 10-15 classes like we have. But hopefully the evals will be better & lead to better on-field results.

Also this whole new investment in the program could go the way the Marlins did once they got their stadium. There are still no fans in the stands. All revenue seems the same but I wouldn't really know about that. Just seems like in Miami what seems too good to be true, is.

I'm apathetic at this point. I'll still watch/follow every game but the emotion isn't there like it used to be if at all.

I see what you mean it’s kind of unclear from what I wrote lol

I meant it was easier for coaches at Miami to find diamonds in the rough because there were a bunch of unknown guys down here that other programs didn’t have the same opportunity to see easily on film but our coaches could go to a different game every Friday and probably watch a guy or more with real potential and talent that weren't on people’s radars.

I'm not going to crucify a coach who does not have his guys in yet and was handed down the remains of a guy who most people agreed should not have ever sniffed a P5 HC job. What I will do is criticize his decision making thus far in his tenure and acknowledge his on field coaching has left a lot to be desired. Am I sitting here saying Mario aint it already? Absolutely not, but am I saying he needs to make same changes swiftly and not let his ego get in the way of making the team better? Absolutely yes.
His job is to win with the talent he has, not wait 4 years until he has "his" players. Yes, we need to improve the talent level of the team. We do NOT need to improve the talent level of the team to beat the crap out of MTSU. That's pathetic coaching.

By the way, if we keep looking like this, he may never field the team talented enough to run what he wants to run.

This narrative is ridiculous. Really can't admit that maybe TVD was overhyped and the fact that Rambo and Harley are gone is exposing him? Really gonna run with that dumb Oregon narrative of "ruining quarterbacks" when Miami has receivers that can't get open against aTm's third-string secondary and TVD is staring down receivers? Not to mention all the stories coming out about him being in his own head, not having any dynamic with his revivers, etc. That hard for this fan base to admit they might've bought fool's gold from a kid who just aired it out a ton against average teams when the Canes were 2-4 on the season and had nothing to play for, or lose?
We had people claiming Stroud and Young were “system QB’s” and can’t admit the same about TVD
