Trench Life interview with Mirabal

Great interview.

But be warned CIS, you may not all like what Mirabal has to say BECAUSE he offers great praise to Jim Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore and the style of play at the University of Michigan. Specifically, that sometimes forget RPO and just run to run. And using 2,3 and even 4 TE’s to just overpower teams. Mirabal literally said he wants UM to be held in the same light as U of M.

Yes friends, as I told many of you 2-3 years ago, Mario wants us to play like Michigan. I know that is distasteful to those of you who prefer to pass the ball 35-45 times per game, but don’t expect to see much of that now that Mario has his roster the way he wants it. Cam Ward and the 2024 team, was the anomaly, not the rule.

But expect UM to win a lot more games than we lose, because in college football this style (with the right personnel), does equate to winning.

That’s perfectly fine - just win. If you look at recent elite teams like Ohio State, Bama & UGA, played great defense, dominant run games & eventually developed passing game.
Miami definitely will try to physically pound the run game against FSU, Noles will over commit & would expect Beck/Dawson to find success in passing game.

Mirabal also said if we have to throw the ball 62 times, so be it. Also, he said if we win 10-7 that’s fine. Obviously, he and Mario want to be physical and tough but their main focus is wining at all costs.

There is no question that style wins a lot of games. You pummel inferior teams and beat good teams. I'm open minded on this but my question is does that style beat exceptional teams? How do you develop the passing attack sufficiently to be efiicient when you need it? And you will at some point.

I think in the long run we need to be more Bama than Michigan. Pummel the inferior teams, but have the WR’s and QB’s to be able to go over the top and win 1 on 1 on the outside when teams are over committed to the run. We aren’t quite there yet IMO. We need 1-2 more recruiting cycles of exceptional WR’s to reach that level.
I would argue that 2 years from now, assuming we have the correct QB, we will be at the Bama level. The WR recruiting seems to be on a great trajectory. But I think we are already really close to the Michigan level from 2023.

Doo Doo.

Getting the best or second best QB in the transfer portal helps, which we have done the last two years and will probably try to do again this coming off-season. Our passing offense will get more explosive (and better) once we have an elite WR room again. And, we'll still be able to run the ball down the other team's throat whenever we want to, while most college teams cannot.

We are recruiting WR much better out of HS, and hopefully, if necessary, we are able to land an elite portal WR next window. We did a nice job evaluating portal WRs this year, but I think our passing offense is limited this year, because our WR room is limited. If it weren't for Cam being superman the same limitation would have been apparent last year, IMO.

Have to believe that’s the ultimate goal. Bama could pound you & then have 1st rounders running thru the secondary.

Truly baffling that Canes fans wouldn't enjoy watching bully ball if it led to championships.

Literally football in its purest form

Agree but with a caveat- we ran the same way last year with Ward and scored a million points.

To me, the best comparison is Alabama under Saban. They won with the running game and defense for years. They added an explosive component with Tua and four first-round wide receivers that took them to a new level. But they never stopped running with physicality.

I think we want to be like our 2024 offense or the Tua Alabama teams that could do both. But if we only have one, give me the power running game that wins championships over the Big 12-style passing attack.

I agree that the Bama formula is the plan. I just don’t think we have the experienced WR’s to do it; yet.

You know recruiting much better than I do, but I think in 2 years we will have the team that we need to be Bama with Tua/Hurts. Your thoughts?

... ngl that LSU title run in 2019 with the Joe Burreaux-Ja'Marr Chase-Justin Jefferson three-headed monster was hella fun to watch.

"Hey defense, just get us one stop today and it's game over."

Ain't seen nothin' like it before — and probably never will again

Hmmmm that may true in “some” respects but Miami has a totally different culture and recruiting landscape…

Plus, we’re not getting top WRs nor top TE’s to come here just to block…

This plodding style of offense is why we fall into so many lulls throughout the game and keep our opponents in it…

But it is what it is so just keep winning; that’s all that matters…

It absolutely beats exceptional teams. Bama has 6 nattys under El Sabano to show for it.

They were a power run team first and throw it second...let's not kid ourselves. Defense helps too.

Yes, the undoubtedly could sling it and did, but make no mistake they had a mean run game that made it all happen on O.

What is remarkable is how few admit to this previously, pull the receipts...you'd think Bama was Air Raid on steroids.

Now that Miami is having success with Santo Mario futböl...suddenly porsters are "this is how Bama did it..."
