"Tough Team Meeting"

Not really if you listen to most of his interviews he tells it like it is. As much grief as this board gives him, they fail to realize that this is the first coach we have had in a while who is not afraid to make changes if something is not working. He has done this in every area we complained about. I get it the results have not been what we want but he is working to get this team where it needs to be.
Give it up. Most don't want to hear it. They can't tell the difference between making an excuse and providing an explanation. They'd complain if he said nothing, they'd say he had a bunker mentality.

Coming out of the offseason, outside of Golden's defensive performance against Maryland, this is the least prepared team to play football I think Miami has ever fielded.

What he needs is a little less externalization and a little more looking in the mirror.

He needs to hire a consultant who's been there done that to evaluate the team top to bottom including the coaching staff.

Sadly I think next offseason is the first chance he'll have to do that.

I know universities are accountability-less blackholes based on my last 13 years working for one, so I doubt anything changes unless we're aborting fetuses or something politically charged enough to get the ninnies on the Board's attention.

I do see the issue with the coaches and their play calling. Baker is highly suspect. I think that Enos figures last week’s game as an opportunity to give the kids confidence by not trying to insulate the OLine as much as he had in the past with play calling and it failed miserably, as the OLine is in shambles this year. Give them some time to figure it out and we should have a decent OLine by year three. However, my biggest gripe with the performance is the attitudes of the players.

Those guys need to realize that they are way more talented than the guy that they are lining up against (especially last week but for most of the ACC schedule that is upcoming...not on the same level as top tier programs though). But they aren’t focused on getting to the next level. And on top of that, they celebrate mediocrity. Watching guys celebrating and dancing on the sideline after we scored the 2nd TD was a complete and total joke. They were down 15 to the spread but because they scored and got a little breathing room it was time to celebrate?
I think that the biggest issue with the players is that they think that they have accomplished something by making to the U (starters and role players). The fact of the matter is that talent will only take you so far and if that is all that you have relied on to “make it” by getting to UM, you probably won’t be too successful for our team not for getting yourself to a high draft pick in the league. Guys like Michael Irvin never showed any satisfaction at any level during their playing careers. They were hungry and always wanted more and tried their hardest to get more out of their current situations.
And for those less talented guys that they are lining up against, those are the guys that have the fight in the dog and that are hungry, and we are trying to get by on pure talent. This is a double edged sword for us. For recruiting purposes, we want kids to feel like The U is someplace special to commit to based upon our glorious history. But at the same time, getting on to the team at The U is an opportunity for showing out to get drafted to the league. But it’s that second part that seems to be missing. It’s an opportunity but the hard work and proving yourself is still requisite to be a top draft pick.
Just look at guys like KJ Osborne as a good example. The guy had to go to Buffalo to make it to the next level. With a good foundation and work ethic, he can now represent The U and clearly has worked his butt off and still continues to do so. These kids take it for granted when the walk in the door, which is why the kid across from them is going to kick their butt every time, because that is the hungrier guy in the field. And with this happening in 22 positions across our team, we squeak by significantly lesser talent. Let’s hope that the leaders on this team push for effort and reserve the celebration to after the season...when they have actually accomplished something to celebrate.

No discipline!! Any stupid penalties you have to bench the guy who made it. They keep happening over and over. Players must be accountable for their mistakes. Yes every player will commit a penalty but the stupid, unforced, and multiple penalties by the same guy have to be addressed with something they understand playing time!!

I like the consultant suggestion earlier. Surely, there's got to be a gray beard out there who can coach Manny up until the end of the season and then he can go full bore into improving things. Or, not. The last 18 years has dulled the senses and expectations.

You see the numbers, right in front of you and you deny them while spewing some rah rah quote having nothing to do with the subject.

Penalties have been an issue here for as long as I can remember, regardless of who the coach is.

We have just had so many superior teams they've been able to overcome it. That's why I said we would out talent teams to win despite them.
Your crusade to defend this JV staff is a fools errand. Every comment in defense of what we saw this past Saturday is indefensible and you loose any little credit you had on here with each post. Smh

Totally agree!!! There's not a single person with the possible of exception of Bandy, who can't be held out without it significantly impacting the team. We need consequences emphasized across the board.

Sorry about work but I’m on vacation and yes I’m emotional about our team because I fell for the whole #TNM BS.
Don't cry for me my man. MY worse days are better than most. No one sick, family good then it's all small stuff right haha, but i do appreciate the sentiments for sure. I hope your vacation is going how you want it to.....minus Saturday 4-7.

However the bolded is what i feel like every is really made about. People feel like they were "duped," but i would ask what did you really exepct to happen? Is Manny supposed to come in and say how bad the team is how there is no hope and how were just trying not to be 7-5? I mean we weren't good up front last year and we have had 3 freshman, albeit 1 a redshirt, start across our OL every game this year....why did anyone expect anything diferent? Becaues of Manny's #TNM?

Our talent says we are about the, what 13th to 17th ranked team in the country. I bet we end up right around there.

Here's the real truth there are only about 4 teams that are going to go 12-0/11-1/10-2. Those guys will be in the playoffs....Every single other team is about a 2-3 loss team yearly. That's what college football is now days. It's 5-6 teams who will have a chance annually and then a handful of teams who will be set up for runs at different times.

Here's another harsh truth....We're never going to get there because of who we recruit. People are asking how wisconsin can be so dominant without stars and its pretty simple. Those kids stay in a program for 3-4 years before they get their first significant action. They work extremely hard and concentrate on their craft. Then when it's their time they make mistakes, but normally the whole of the unit is good enough to hide little mistakes from play to play. For us if a kid isn't starting within 18 months they transfer. It's a mentality that is permeated within our "recruiting base" No love for the home team, hold them to different standards, bolt at the first sign of not getting what i want because every twitter coach says i should be doing this and that and coaches suck. Imagine trying to recruit against the community telling these kids every day how the coaches at miami suck.

Excellent post!!! And I agree with everything you said because I’m from South Florida and the hate that people have for UM is unbelievable. But I’m not asking Manny to compete for a championship I’m asking him to field a disciplined well coach team. There’s no reason for UM to be getting 13 penalties against CMU.

ON that we can also agree. It's a tricky and fine line....I know Patchan isn't well liked on this board and people want Hill in over him, but can you really bench Patch and start Hill when Hill has had an offsides EVERY GAME? Do you sit them both and start a true freshman in Harvey? Maybe we can start GR15, not a bad idea. I guess my point is there are only so many cards a coach can play per situation. The only thing you can really do is sit people, but if the back ups aren't as good or they're committing penalties too what do you do?

However yes penalties normally are attributed to coaching, but we have 74 scholly players including specialists, how don't have that kind of depth either. Catch 22

Man they really indoctrinated you didn’t they?
I'm not the one being an emotional mope. You should probably find another hobby for the next 2-3 years and come back when we are either winning or next coach search. Would be best for you. manny will either be what you think he is or we will have something going on. Either way that's about the timeframe.
