My only point is people think this is Major League Baseball and we can lock a star in for 13 years and no longer worry about the position.

Rosters flip fast; kids transfer, get hurt, don't pant out, etc. Amassing talent is our goal here in recruiting. We should never be "ok" with losing local all-world talent because we signed a couple quality kids at that position in prior years. Olsen and Kaaya have never taken a snap against a Division 1 opponent. We have no idea what path their careers will take.

If you have a program-changing QB a county over that you've been hard after for years, and you lose him, it does hurt. Even with Olsen and Kaaya in the mix, there's no cap on talent like some believe. Keep bringing in the best players you can and let it all sort itself out. Elite players separate great programs, and it's hard to hit on them. I know it's especially hard to find and develop a top level Quarterback -- but you know what increases your chances? Having more of them on the roster.

Yeah it definitely sucks if we lose Gibson.

The part in bold, I don't think anyone REALLY is "ok" with losing local all-world talent. No matter who we have or who we target, we need the best of the best PERIOD. As for QBs it is such a crap shoot (look at this NFL draft) but we still need the best of the best.

We have watched over the last few years one player (QB) completely change a program...

1. Winston at FSU,
2. Newton at Auburn,
3. Manziel at TAMPon (although they never won, he is that team), and
4. Bridgewater at UL

Without those players, those teams don't have that success. They're clear difference makers. If this kid Gibson is on this level (we don't know), then clearly we can USE HIM. In addition, he is a local kid who Al has been recruiting since the 8th grade...if Gibson is on that level, than this sucks if he goes elsewhere.
 
He won't choose Da U. This kid is the most overrated prospect in this class; crazy athlete but definitely not anything special as a QB JMO

U still take him because if he doesnt pan out at QB he would be a beast of a wr, u take the best talent in your backyard no matter what even if they fail it helps future relationships past on through generations. What if his child is the nest Sean Taylor u just never know, keep the talent from home home.

Good point. I wasn't saying he's not a take, just that it would not be as big of a blow as some other big names in this class like ridley, SBB , Jaquan Johnson, ect.

Good point. I wasn't saying he's not a take, just that it would not be as big of a blow as some other big names in this class like ridley, SBB , Jaquan Johnson, ect.

I actually agree- for me it is Jaquan Johnson, Ridley, Irvin in that order....but don't get me wrong- Gibson has huge upside at an important position...it's just these other 3 guys already look insane.

That statement is hard to read. Being differentiated is normally a good thing when referring to a college, but wanting to get away is obviously bad for us.

Might want to get away is a lot different than wanting to get away. I really don't think this kid is very far along in his decision making process.

Don't worry, State of the U blog already said this is a done deal, and he isn't even a good qb so no loss. If you complain when he doesn't pick us you are stupid. It's science.

Gibson is dead set on playing QB in college, and he'd probably transfer to another college team before he agrees to playing wide reciever.

We really don't know what is gonna happen till it does to say its a done deal is fair off.
