Yeah..but at the end you have to win..it’s not automatic at all. So Dennis didn’t just win one..he won two over 6 years and very easily could’ve had another..He modernized Miami’s offense a one back scheme... something not seen at the collegiate level Therefore he belongs in the top 3. That’s irrefutable. There’s no guarantee that’ Butch would’ve built what he built AND sustained it..but off the roster he built he belongs 4th. Ericksons teams didn’t fall off after Jimmys guys left.

Ericksons teams DID fall off after JJs kids left after 92 season.....Stop the stupidity...
His recruiting from 91-94 was Lazy and atrocious...Those are Facts...Teams caught up to his So-called extraordinary 1 back offense rather quickly...with BYU telling Erickson No Fs given about his revolutionary offense....

Butch would've sustained it Longer than Coker did....Lol....After the *** Whipping Butch put on recruiting from 95-2000 (especially from 97-2000) do you honestly think from 2001- let's say too 2010...he'd all of a sudden forget how to evaluate and recruit??
C'mon man....Hate on Butch all ya want...but when he left UM he left them a F of alot better than the pile of sh*t he inherited...unlike Erickson....who was left with an NFL team...and left UM in a embarrassing mess...

9-3 then 10-2 is not exactly falling off bro..2 rings can’t take that away no matter how u feel about him winning with Jimmys guys..I dont completely buy that narrative at all. You still have to coach a team to come together to reach that goal..I know Butch is your guy/cousin/nephew/bestie/spirit animal but this argument is no argument at all. I respect what butch did a roster builder and what Erickson did as a championship coach..but like all the great 17 year olds say on Twitter, I will be decommitting from this debate, please respect my decision

Dennis went 9-3 then 10-2 his last season the went to the league I believe ..that’s almost like saying Saban fell off this season or in 12-13..Erickson posted a 11 win season at Oregon st then a 10 win campaign at ******* Arizona st lol..he was a good coach..he was in no way and should in no way be compared to Larry Coker as a coach

I'm not related to Butch...just spittin Facts...
Take 31 schollies...1 yr Bowl Ban...1 yr No TV...Public Scrutiny...and a Major Publication calling for you to dismantle program from Erickson or any other coach you can name..
And give CaneInOrlando a Holler in 3-4yrs & let me know how things are....better yet...let me know if during said adversity they sent 25 1st rounders to the NFL...

and create a team better than 01 UM....
It's been 20 F-ing yrs....and nobody...not Dabo...Meyer...and Saban have come close..

He left the team in shambles. Not only talent wise, but with probation. Good coach, yes. Best ever here? **** no.

Yeah I don’t have him #1 I have him 3rd behind Howard and Jimmy. Can’t take away the championships..idk about talent wise leaving it in shambles. Talent was good enough for 9-3 and many in the fanbase thought was good enough to be better than that and questioned Butch..but we all know the sanctions and probations definitely did make Butch tenure tough and he navigated around it. Nobody takes that away from him. But that was on some bull**** that the NCAA was on..all in all both coaches should be respected but those two rings puts Dennis in the top 3 for me
 
I seem to recall Erickson complaining in a press conference after winning the ‘89 MNC that people weren’t giving him credit and were acting like “just anybody can come here and do this,” or words to that effect.

Reading this thread, it looks like 30 years later everyone thinks just anybody could’ve done what Dennis did at UM. How ironic.

That 1990 team wouldn't even make today's 4-team playoff, yet look at that 1991 Cotton Bowl and tell me they wouldn't have slaughtered absolutely anyone at the end of the season. If they hadn't come out so lazy at BYU to start the season as defending national champs, that season would have been the the second of 3 in a row. (And yes, the Sugar Bowl would have made it four in a row but Bama beat us fair and square, sad to say).

When did ANYONE in UM History have a NC and AA Laden team left for them like that??....Nobody....What Howard left Jimmy pales in comparison to what JJ left Erickson.

Erickson was COMPLETELY outcoached against BYU in 90.....Stop with the laziness excuse...

Three of four if you include the stolen ND game. IMO, he gets it because he raised things to another level, made the U the U.
 
Stupid, stupid article. We were not "largely irrelevant" until the 1980's.

He should have had Andy Gustafson in that list. He's the only one of our coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Wish I had an email for this dolt Blake Silvers.
