That’s the #1 thing that most of CIS fails to comprehend. There’s a false belief that the last 15 years or so have been a “down period” for Miami football, when in reality it’s not like the current period is that much different than the pre-1980s days. Miami football history is basically almost continuous mediocrity, with a nice 20-25 year span thrown in there.

I really don’t think Miami football will be that much different in 30 years than it is now. I wonder if people are still seriously going to talk about the U eventually coming back then.

We have 2 coaches in the CFB that were here from 37-63 and one from 84-88. That's not irrelevant.

Miami football might have been relevant to Miami fans before the 1980s. It wasn’t relevant to the country as a whole.

If anything, the longevity of Gustafson’s tenure shows how irrelevant Miami was. The fact that we allowed him to stay for so long, with not even a .600 win percentage.

And that was considered the good old days when Schnellenberger was hired.

You display a complete lack of understanding of the college football landscape prior to 1980.

There's no way a new guy joins and starts arguing on his first day. Welcome back, I suspect your stay won't be long.

Dennis Erickson just got inducted.

Schnellenberger doesn’t meet the win % criteria to be inducted.

IDK why Jimmy Johnson hasn’t been inducted. He just barely meets the 10 year coaching requirement to get into the HOF.

Any CFB HC who changes the trajectory of an entire sport (Howard & JJ) should be in immediately...

JJ was inducted in 2012. Howard should get an exemption not just for us, but he is a beloved legend at 3 different schools. The fact that he had that level of impact makes it obvious that he belongs.
