Tom Herman (merged with Herman head coach candidate threads)

They all do more with less. Their teams don’t have as much talent as their opponents, but they find ways to win.

At Houston, Herman beat #9 FSU in the Peach and the following year beat #3 Oklahoma and #3 UL. He has some bad losses too as you alluded to, but what coach are you going to get who has wins like that but has no bad losses?

If a guy — at that university with all that talent — is having issues beating teams like Texas Tech, then what makes us think he wouldn’t come here and struggle against Pitt.
Fair.

But he also showed the ability to go head to head with some top tier coaches.

5-0 record in bowl games speaks for itself.

Not sure I would put Narduzzi, Cutcliffe, Fuentes, Collins on the same level as Gary Patterson, Mike Gundy, Matt Campbell or Lincoln Riley level.

Fair point, but I just didn’t like how his Texas teams were getting repeatedly out coached during his tenure.

I’d take Tom Herman tbh.

Think he’d thrive here. Would hope the Texas job humbled him and allowed him to do some deep self scouting.
I don’t think you can teach an old dog new tricks. His spots on his skin are what they are.

There, enough Cliches in there to drive home the point.

No recently fired coaches. Period. Learn from the past. He's fresh off of a fanbase and admin seeing enough. Just like with Richt, you can't expect a different result than what he's put on a paper recently.

Plus, all the politics in the world + big money over the situation down here all day.

Who in their right mind would take this dumpster fire job other than people who are too inexperienced (Randy), too old but sympathetic (Richt), or too incompetent to know they suck (Golden Diaz)? If I’m a hot up and coming coach like Fickell, I’d give this dumpster fire a wide birth. No sense taking a lateral position.

Hmmm...From a cultural perspective?
I don’t think Houston and south Florida are that different and he did pretty well at UH. The real difference I keeps hitting on is Texas coaches are gonna try to do whatever to keep their studs in Texas no matter where they play. And they also aren’t handlers. It seem in south Florida a lot of those guys and programs are selling their guys to the highest bidder if they can and you almost can’t recruit a kid if you don’t go through them

Mark Richt won 10 games, the coastal, went to the ACC Championship game, beat a top 5 team and a top 15 team, went to the Orange bowl in one season by year two. The year before that, he won 9 games, and won Miami’s first and only bowl Game since 2004. I would say the results were vastly different AT MIAMI under Richt.

Somebody who would want to recruit and coach in the most fertile football recruiting area on the planet.

Tom Herman.

I’m not sure why people keep pumping this guy up.

Can we stop hiring dudes that failed at other schools, especially a prominent program like Texas?

Listen, years ago I thought Herman was going to be a Texas coaching legend, but that never materialized.

This university needs to stop taking chances. For once, pony up the money to hire a big-name coach with a proven track record. Sell them on leading a team playing in the easiest division in Power 5 CFB

It can be done. Our fans are too used to settling for mediocrity.
No I don't think he's a good option but are you really gonna pretend you knew he was gonna sink at UT?

You guys sweat these G5 or bottom feeder P5 up and comers year in year out.

I compare Texas to Bama pre Saban. They’re ran by the big money boosters , too many people sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong. It’s a very toxic job. Like Bama they need an alpha type yo walk in and be like “ this is what we’re going to do and this is how we’ll do it “. Until then the machine will keep wrecking itself.

besides besides showing our displeasure....what exactly can fans do to make the administration do anything??
i don't understand the narrative that fans can make the administration do what it has never done.

Are we really any better? At least they have people who care.
