Haha. Exactly. When I say "insane violence" it almost always has an implied positive connotation. The proper terminology is "great football" ...

Insane Violence was watching Steelers vs Raiders circa 73-83....I think Bawlmore is getting a 30 for 30 but the Steelers-Ravens rivalry involving all those guys and that level of insane violence in modern football really should get one too.
Lott was a CB for his first four seasons. And Lott also told Ed he (Ed) was the best FS ever.I can overlook Lott....he wasn't even a Safety his 1st 6-7yrs....he was a CB.....Ed's the best Safety to ever lace em up....
Love how Ed Reed terrorized QB's. Every single one. Firmly believe Sean Taylor & Ed Reed would've been #1 & #2 Safeties post 2000
No doubt! Brings to memory another DB, Jack Tatum, "They call me Assassin "Insane Violence was watching Steelers vs Raiders circa 73-83....
Lott was amazing and the reason I wanted to play Safety but Ed is something different. Nobody touches him at that position . The greatest safety I’ve ever seen and by a mile.Lott was great, definitely can't overlook..ER was still a different guy, and I think better overall.
Tatum, and Atkinson was no slouch....Add Willie Davis and Lester Hayes and you've got one ridiculous secondary...No doubt! Brings to memory another DB, Jack Tatum, "They call me Assassin "
Eras is the best way of doing any of this stuff. The goat talk is just that….talk. But the things I saw Ed do in the deep middle ( pause ) was incredible. He manipulated the manipulators ( qb’s).Lott was a CB for his first four seasons. And Lott also told Ed he (Ed) was the best FS ever.
No doubt Reed was #1 post 2000, and I’d put Troy Polamalu #2.
Before that you just get into the whole ‘different era’ chatter.
So you knew Ed Reed would be HOF in 97?You watched with your eyes closed?!

Ed is a coaches player. Elite tools, but on field general who knows what he’s supposed to do every play and has the tools to do itLott was great, definitely can't overlook..ER was still a different guy, and I think better overall.
My point was arguing reasons for greatness might not be comparing apples to apples when comparing a player from the 60s, 70s, or 80s to a current player or one from last 10 or 20 years.Eras is the best way of doing any of this stuff. Willie Brown, I think you mean. Skip Thomas was the other CB. At least on the 1976 Raiders Super Bowl team.Tatum, and Atkinson was no slouch....Add Willie Davis and Lester Hayes and you've got one ridiculous secondary...
Look man. Watching that guy play his position was special, from the time I 1st saw him play in college, and into his pro careerEd is a coaches player. Elite tools, but on field general who knows what he’s supposed to do every play and has the tools to do it
I'd say he had great instincts, but he wasn't really a ball hawk like Ed, he was more of a head hunter.Polamalu was a great safety but he was
Nowhere in ER’s arena with instincts/ball skills.
Yes, but also played strong safety, not free safety. Or so I recall. @Tad Footeball ??I'd say he had great instincts, but he wasn't really a ball hawk like Ed, he was more of a head hunter.
Charles Woodson is easily one of the top DBs ever, so it was definitely a valid answerTom is the only one that was truthful. Everyone else just wanted to suck off one of their old teammates
