Time for a Serious Discussion

Don't see us winning if Marcl Reed is the better QB on Saturday

Really need Beck to play efficiently and hit on the big play when it's there.

On the flip, Reed can also be mistake-prone at times. We've got to take advantage
I just don’t want Beck forcing it to Toney because Elko knows he wants to. He’s going to bait him — Beck can’t fall for it.

For me I am going to assume our lines play elite as the have this year. If that happens:
1-Mario handcuffing the offense if a mistake is made like an early turnover or if we get a lead.
2-Beck seeing ghosts and evil Beck shows up
3-Reed getting loose with his legs.
4-Non holding calls on our DL. One thing to let the boys play but **** they can’t be allowed to hold.

I think our pre snap false starts have been fixed but the home field at Aggie land will show us.

I still think we win 31-20 type game.

Big DT over our center.
Shallow Crossers by their two WRs with room to run like Bell for UL.
Bain and Mesidor getting gassed
Toure covering anything but the grass in front of him
Our TE expected to do much.
Howell without any chips on 3rd and long
A lot of pressure on our center. Let’s hope he rises to the occasion.

I’m a broken record at this point, but my concern is if we can keep containment and limit conversions with the front 4 only. At least while the game is close, we are opening ourselves up to huge YAC plays if we send DBs from the slot. Our DBs are our best blitzers, my concern is we send them and get carved up because Klein is going to tell Reed to throw to the exact spot the pressure comes from.

QB1 worries me

But Dawson and CJ Daniels got that covered

Beck got back on track against bad teams but the way Dawson is using Toney, plus Fletcher and Daniels back to full strength and I think we are good

Elko is a good defensive coach and Beck has some weaknesses

I get why people are concerned about A&Ms offense and it’s fair, but our defense may give up some but I’m not as concerned

Keys to game:

minimizing pre snap penalties
KC & Craver vs Keionte & Bryce matchup
Play calling & execution on 3rd & short, 4th & short, RZ.
Qb play (i like beck experience here)

Both teams are strong in trenches. Both have strong coaches on defense. The deciding factors will be offensive production, special teams, and staying away from catastrophic turnovers.

I like our chances. Go Canes 🙌

Biggest things is the front 4 has to keep containment with reed in the pocket while still making him feel rushed. Easier said than done but we can’t recklessly wide rush and not expect him to move and find lanes.

Staying creative with Toney and forcing favorable matchups like bringing him into the backfield. Elko is gonna try and completely take him out of the game and say beat me with someone else…. Which I’m sure every DC has tried doing 95% of the season. Sucks seeing Upshaw on the Injury report he was someone along with Moore, Daniel’s, and Marion that I was hoping could make plays

I also wouldn’t mind seeing more misdirection because this is an overly aggressive defense that’s gonna be initially feeding off the energy of the crowd (and their own ****y comments) use it to our advantage and don’t let them freely get use to running down hill recklessly

Let’s put the Kool-Aid down for a second and have a rational conversation.

We all love this program.

We are all confident in this team.

But I’m going to stop listening to my heart for a second and give my brain a chance to jump into the discourse.

What concerns us about this matchup? I’ll go first….

1) Our LBs ability to cover their WRs underneath.

2) Keeping Reed contained in the pocket. Broken plays have been our enemy before. The ND and SMU games come to mind. Even the FSU game in the 4th quarter.

3) Beck zeroing in on Toney. Elko is too smart of a coach to allow one player to beat him. His scheme will be structured to neutralize Toney’s impact. Carson has to be patient, go through his progressions, and find the open receiver.

4) WRs other than Toney creating separation. With Toney most likely being bracketed, can CJ take advantage of 1-on-1 opportunities? What about Marion? Mark my words: to win this game, we’re going to need a couple of big time, contested catches from someone other than Toney.

5) Pringle in pass protection. Can he handle what Elko throws at us in 3rd and long situations? We’re going to have to trust him. You can’t only bring him in if we’re running the ball — that’s too predictable.

6) Pre-snap penalties. If we can’t avoid more than one or two of these over the course of the game, we’re probably in bad shape. Getting behind the chains hurts the type of offense Dawson wants to call.

What other things worry you guys?

All good points. I’ll add Mario game management in tight games for 1000 Alex

Self-inflicted mistakes. If we push 10 penalties and turn it over like we did against Louisville and SMU, we can and will lose.

If we have 5 or less penalties and 1 or less turnover, we win the game.

We don’t have to play our A game to win. We just have to play a CLEAN game. Don’t beat yourself, and I don’t think A&M can do it.

All legitimate concerns.

I’ll counter with the rest has done us well, especially since the last month of the season were playoff games for us.

Second, I believe there’s no better coordinator in the country than Hetherman. Add that to the personnel as a whole, especially with the return of Scott and a fully healthy Thomas, and I believe some of those concerns can be mitigated.

We put up 27 and we win. I believe we will at least hang that number.

Both QBs are hot and cold, an early turnover or putting A&M in a hole could both really help Beck and **** with Reed.
This take cracks me up, and not the first time I have heard it. Beck was a 75% completion guy this year. How does that constitute hot and cold? And what would you define a 65% passer?
