Thoughts on this years schedule... (the good, the bad and the ugly)..

My biggest overall concern is the back-to-back VaTech/Pitt games on the road. Front-end and back-end of the Thanksgiving holiday. Time of the year when all the nagging injuries hurt, and the cold weather doesn't help matters.
This is a prove-it schedule to me. We play our three biggest historic rivals (UF, FSU, Notre Dame) and we have to avoid the cold-weather November swoon that has killed us for two decades.

I've been a broken record on this for months. It's an absolutely brutal way to end a season.

I'll wait to call it "brutal" until I see how VaTech/Pitt play this year. Potentially, yes.

But it's also a bit tricky because (assuming the best) the ACC-CG in Charlotte would be a week later.

The good: We don't play Clemson. We only have 4 road games. Two of the road games *should* be in warm weather. FSU for sure, SMU on 11/1 won't be bad. We play a much tougher schedule than last year, so if we're a bubble playoff team, the resume won't kill us like it did last year. We play Louisville on a Friday night, and even though both teams will be on equal rest, for some reason the home teams have a way better record on these weeknight games. We only play 1 team who has more rest than we do....NC State has a bye before we play them, but at least the game is at home. I'm not positive this qualifies as "good", but at least it's only 1 team with that advantage and the game is home.

The bad: Two of the road games are likely in the cold. Although I still stand firm in the paint that VT is going to suck *** this year. But I don't like cold weather games. 8 straight ACC games. I know we do this often, but I don't like it. I wish we had a non-con sprinkled in there somewhere.

The ugly: Both byes in the first 7 weeks of the season, leaving 7 straight games to end the season. Would be really nice to have that bye post-FSU later in October or maybe after the SMU game.

Question becomes how much do you play the long game and rotate a bunch of guys early in the season like OSU supposedly did last year, at the end of the day ACC ship game appearance/ship is the #1 priority even over ND and UF

a lot is being made of the Miami schedule for '25, specifically the part about them not leaving the state of Florida till Nov 1(at SMU). Hey, they just want to do their part to limit carbon emissions. Also, some other interesting things about the #Canes schedule..

They have two BYE weeks in a three week stretch (Sept 27 and Oct 11, in-between is the game at Tally at FSU. I think that's interesting. It means that the last 7 weeks they play straight through. Depth will be tested in this stretch.

You could make an argument that Miami's 3 toughest games (ND, FL, L'Ville) are at home, I know some will say SMU should be up there, I don't necessarily disagree...

Also, the last two games are road trips in cold weather environments(Vatech and Pitt). And yeah, that Pitt game gives me memory of the coldest game I ever attended, 2003 in their final game in the Big East(about 15 degrees that whole Thanksgiving weekend)
Holy **** man I was also at that Pitt game in 2003

I grew up in northwest PA so the cold is nothing new to me

But that night the wind in that stadium…definitely one of the coldest I’ve ever been in my life. It was horrible.

I couldn't be there in person but I remember that game vividly. That was one of the best individual performances in Canes Football history by Antrell Rolle. The way he locked down Larry Fitzgerald was awe inspiring! I put Rolle's performance that night right up there with Edge vs UCLA 1998, Jerome Brown vs Oklahoma 1985 D'erique King vs NC State 2020, Dan Morgan vs FSU 2000 and Willis McGahee vs Virginia Tech 2002 and many others.
Fitzgerald had a touchdown streak going pretty sure

Did nothing all game and then got a cheap *** TD right at the end

On topic for the thread: d$ summed up my thoughts. It’s a perfect schedule for Mario to exorcise some demons. The byes around FSU absolutely suck.

That VTech game is tricky. Drones is good. He's mobile, can extend plays, and can give defenses fits. Luckily, he's also a little injury prone and may be banged up himself late in the season.

The bye week situation sucks but it's no excuse Yes those last two road games probably going to be cold weather but both of those teams are going to be ******* dog **** No excuse to lose either of those games

i’m not sure why everyone is thinking VT and Pitt are gonna be so bad. We all know what happened with VT last year and if that QB for Pitt is on he can play.
After crapping ourselves LY at GT & Cuse, nothing is guaranteed.
And yes I know the defense “should” be better…

I've never felt all that cold since that weekend. Seriously, I handled that, and everything else has been a relative sauna from that point on
