thoughts on lyle and jojo

I’m more concerned about the people that keep bringing him up when Toney and Daniels are delivering and others are contributing.

And @QuattroCane … the early carries felt forced .. Lyle for the sake of Lyle vs continuing with what was working… unnecessary… could have gotten him 10 touches when we were up 42-3, but alas… **** FSU
So we only need 2 WRs. No need in having another ridiculously talented guy out there? The rest of the room hasn't done anything the last two games

I didn't say we only need 2 receivers. It is heading into game 6 of year 2 and he can't get on the field. Begging for him every week isn't going to change that. If he was that good, he'd be on the field. Maybe the lightbulb comes on.

U really believe that? U watched him in the bowl game im sure? Kid is plenty good enough. And all we heard all spring was how great he looked. The kid is clearly in the doghouse

I agree he is in the doghouse. Summer innuendo here about maturity. He is somewhere between come get your kids and not being an elite human being anymore. George played all last year after being a **** up, so if he was THAT good on the field, he would be on the field, no?

No idea why you contend he’s ridiculously talented. There is nothing concrete to suggest that. He’ll need to earn PT. If he doesn’t, then that’s on him.
Well he was a very highly rated prospect coming in. In his only major game action he looked really good averaging 20 yards a catch with a nice TD and then everyone watching him in the spring was telling us how good he looked. No one outside of the top 2 WRs have done anything. I believe hes in some sort of trouble whether its off the field stuff or effort. If so, that's on him but would be awesome to have him alongside toney and daniels IMO

Yeah just sucks
It sucks, but that’s football man. Guys rise and fall all the time. Sometimes the guys we want to rise never do it and the guys we didn’t expect to, do do it. What I can say about JoJo is this, he was starting to get passed up by the younger guys before this injury stuff even happened during summer workouts. So it’s just on him, he’s either going to rise the occasion or he’s not.

Actually, he was not rated on par with ridiculously talented prospects; his high school teammate was. He’s a nice prospect who has proven nothing. I trust the coaches who see him everyday to determine if/when he plays.

Marion made a BIG impact last night, motion penalty took 6 points off the board. Would not have been as dramatic in the 4th with those points on the board.

As a Receiver, Marion just isn’t very good. He’s not a great route runner, and he doesn’t have great hands. He is great for an occasional jet, sweep or reverse, but putting him in for critical downs, is not the best idea

Complete agree on the Lyle series.
Felt it was bad timing to put him in. Brown and Fletcher were starting to get a rhythm and they should have stuck with it.

Our offense took a step back last year when Lyle entered the game as well

Notably against Syracuse with the season on the line

Running the ball is as much about rhythm as anything else and we’ve yet to figure this out since Mario has been here. Predetermined series and carries drives me insane

When they put Lyle in that series my thought went to Syracuse as well. It didn't bite us this time but it wasn't the time in the game to get cute. Regardless I think the Brown and Fletcher combination is our best option and it really works IMO. I also think Browm could be our #1 back next year. I think he is that good

I don’t have a big issue in playing Lyle last night. My concern was playing him in the fourth quarter.

Look at our first drive of the fourth quarter when Lyle was in there. Lyle presents two issues that you don’t really have with Brown and Fletcher. The first issue is that lyle dances rather than gain a full head of steam into the hole and gain 3-4 yards. And because he dances around, I think that kind of play is more likely to invite a holding call than a Fletcher/Brown type of front. That’s what killed that first drive. That’s my theory anyway.

I wanted to see a healthy Lyle play all week.

1) He doesn't look fully healthy;
2) We were forcing the issue. Fletcher and Brown were called for. They're also very good and willing blockers in protection.

It was a mistake.
