Thought Experiment

What games? I mean we got BLOWN out most games

I am so glad gattis is gone but im not sure we win more than 1-2 more games with anyone else due to our terrible defense and our injuries

Duke is on the turnovers 100%

Middle Tennessee state is on TVD and the defense in my opinion, giving up 42 to middle Tennessee is a ******* embarrassment

Florida state? Maybe but on our 3rd string qb and giving up 45 , it could have been closer but would we win? No

Pitt? Maybe but again gave up 40

UNC and aTm are the two games we win with a different OC but that’s it I think
You can blame TVD for MTSU all you want but your mostly wrong in that assessment. It was more on Gattis. first pick was all Gattis, worse pass concept in the history of football, 2 players run 5 yard outs lined up 1 yard apart to the short side of the field, please. 2nd pick was a great play by DE, Mallory goes for 25 yards otherwise. Rest of it was bunch formation with long developing mesh routes while MTSU stacked the box (cause that's what happens when the offense has 10 in the box itself), which aloud MTSU to bring/fake pressure from all over the place. REMEMBER WE ALSO COULD NOT RUN THE BALL VS MTSU. Ever team then copied what MTSU did to us and GATTIS COULD NOT GET HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS OWN AS* AND SOLVE THAT PROBLEM. FRAUD.

But please, keep using TVD as the fall guy.

Agreed, but that was near the end of the year.

Talent was there at the beginning of the year before all of the injuries hit.
If im not mistaken Zion only played 1 or two games and didnt start the season. He was the only real tackle we had. The other guys are guards or centers. The only other guy who may have been a decent tackle is Rivers, and he has played inside his whole career here. Oline recruiting has been horrible just like linebacker.

TVD should never have thrown that ball into the short side of the field. The throw to the field side was wide open. TVD likes to throw to certain players, and that's fine when that guy happens to be open. But there have been countless times when other guys have been open and he missed them. Gattis sucked a lot but he wasn't the one pulling the trigger to the wrong guy at times last year.

You quoted my post and left the part out where I said I believed it was on TVD AND the defense?

Can you read?

It was a pre-snap read. Mallory was in the slot and was being covered by a LB who was lined up inside of him. Will have the outside leverage. That was the pre-snap key. The corner covering the WR made the pick when he undershot the route. That corner would not have been there if Gattis called a fly or a curl for the outside WR. You are correct that TVD could have gone to the wide side but it was a mirror concept and the same thing could have happened there.

Put aside style of offense. A professional and competent oc—even with a basic, pro-style offense—would have been an upgrade over Gattis. IMO, that’s worth at least 1 or 2 more wins last year, even without TVD.

Losing Rivers was pretty big for the OL, and he wasn't lighting the world on fire when he played.

We needed better coaching and scheming. We needed buy-in and an improved culture. Perhaps the first would have led to improvement of the second. Regardless, there was still roster cleansing to do. The lockeroom wasn’t great under Diaz either.

And we had a terrible rash of injuries.

5-7 was result of many factors and mistakes.

I thought the reason why we went 5-7 was because we didn’t have any talent?

Now yall are saying we would’ve won more games with a better Offensive coach?

Interesting...
We probably beat A&M with a better offensive scheme.
We beat Middle Tennessee State with a better offensive scheme.
We probably beat UNC with a better offensive scheme.

After that, injuries on the offensive line and running back prove insurmountable. And the offensive line was the biggest weak spot last season.

A lot of what ifs. Would TVD have even gotten hurt if he didn’t have to sit in the pocket for 15 minutes waiting for a Gattis route to open up?

Would the defense had thrown in the towel on the second half of the season if the offense wasn’t absolute trash?

I don’t know how great Dawson is as a coordinator but before the 2022 season started most people had us pegged as an 8-10 win team. It wasn’t until the wheels fell off that all of the sudden, we had no talent. Manny’s staff went 7-5 with less talent.

Here's a thought experiment. If we hadn't seen TVD under Lashlee, would anyone be excited to see him play under Dawson?
