and that is great when it comes to coordinators, having experiance at dc when u the oc are calling plays matters. position coaches though hiring a guy with 2 yrs as a rb coach isn't gonna hurt u when he coached melvin gordon and nick chubb, sony michael and the like and the co/oc thing is just a title period. richt is the oc. i expect mclendon or lilly to also have co/oc and one to be associate hc. if they come to miami that is.

the truth is no coach has an entire staff of experianced coaches. maybe saban, even meyer has guys he brought in as graduate assistants then promoted to position then to coordinators. its the way football works, not having experiance doesn't equate to bad coach.

and for the record harley and brown both have experiance at the positions they will have at miami at other schools.

This guy does not deserve to be Co-OC. I don't mind hiring him over Ice as RB coach at all. If thats Richts guy, I'm down for it, and I don't act like Ice had this magnificent impact on recruiting. The coach that has the biggest impact on recruiting is Coley. So Im happy with this guy as RB coach, but he hasn't earned the salary that comes with the Co-OC title. or proven anything in regards to earning that title in the first place. He started coaching in 2012!!
 
Everyone understands that the OC role under Richt will be primarily organizational, right?
 
Can't help but find humor in the irony that the first whiny faygit of the new coaching era is a dude who went from one coach Slurping name to another

we dont want a uga welfare program for guys who have proven they can coach like Mclendon and Brown but want it for guys like ice, coley, etc.

600K for a glorified recruiter is a huge waste of money. Instead of worrying about getting his ex players paid, he should have spent that cash on Don Brown.

FYI - For all you know Don Brown may have had ZERO interest in Miami, even if the Canes offered a few more dollars.

CO-OC when the HC is calling plays is really not that big of a deal. actually find me an established guy that would accept that and he probably isn't worth much anyway. this is basically an assistant OC position. really it seems very appropriate to give it to a young hard working grinder vs an established guy set in his ways. in the end its just a title. richt is the OC calling plays,.
 
I just did a check of what the running backs coach at Alabama and LSU are bringing in. Burton Burns at Alabama is getting $337,000 dollars per year in salary. LSU's Frank Wilson is making $616K. He also serves as recruiting coordinator/cough cough bagman. Wilson's salary places him at 18th in the nation for all D1 assistant coaches. Cam Cameron makes $600,000 as OC at LSU. Burns has stops at Southern University, Tulane, and Clemson over a long period of time. Wilson coached at Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Tennessee before arriving in Baton Rouge. If we're giving Brown $600,000 then I believe his responsibilities really will be larger than just coaching running backs and then you do wonder what exactly will he be doing.

I personally could careless that Richt hired a former player or coach or as it is in this case a former player and coach, but I do raise a smart eyebrow when I see such a large salary being mentioned for a RB coach who last year made less than half of that ($275K) and the year before made roughly a third of that ($215K).

I am happy we got Richt, but he'll be scrutinized like every other college coach in America.
 
It'd be hard to really confirm that $600k number - also, was the report $600k annually or over the three-year contract?

the 600k is still a rumor. since one he hasn't offically been named an 2 miami as a private institution doesn't have to report coaches salaries. id take it with a grain of salt but miami has money to spend on assistants. as for co/oc it means nothing when head coach is calling plays.

i love how people are wanting miami to actually keep coley. they wanted him gone for 2 yrs now that have new hc want to keep him im confused on this. also ice was needed by golden because he had horrible access in south florida. but richt has all the respect and access he coudl want. doesn't need ice for that. beard is one id like to keep but only because i thought he did a good job with wr's this year.

the other guy i thought deserved to stay was scott because of how well he did as interim hc. that said replacing entire staff is not a big deal this last staff for most part sucked balls.

also lets be honest those being angry about hiring thomas brown as rb's coach or mclendon as wr coach. are just doing it because they wanted butch as head coach.

richt was a great hire as hc. i am not gonna get upset when a coach brings assistants with him. bronco mendinhall is bringing most of his assistants to virginia from byu. it happens with alot of coaches.

Cam Cameron is among the highest paid OC's in the nation (and stealing every penny apparently). He's not making $600k, not even close to that amount. Try over a mil.
