Thomas Brown says we have two "elite" backs...maybe three

I don't even think Kansas fans have such a low opinion of their own player's as I've seen with some Canes fans...

Yall mutha****as be talking about our boys like we're MEAC team or something, smh.

Yeah some of these mfs are crazy,. In this case none of our running backs have elite speed but they have traits to be all purpose backs.
I don't necessarily think they're "Elite" either, by my overall point is more so just people always immediately talking down on our own guys.
I think Walton, Yearby & Homer can all be great backs, maybe not "Elite" but at least one tier below it.

Also, Speed isn't the only measure of an Elite back, there's plenty of RB's in CFB that are fast as **** but can't do sh*t else but run fast straight forward as long as they have a 5 yard hole open for'em.

Lol at U leavin out Gus... Somebody please show me an elite RB that averages 3.5 yards a carry in the history of college football... Somebody show me and I'll shut up

[/Adrian Nicholas Peterson[2] (born July 1, 1979)[2] is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League and United Football League. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft, playing eight seasons for Chicago. Peterson went on to spend the next three seasons playing in the UFL for the Virginia Destroyers. He is an alumnus of Georgia Southern University, where he set numerous school, conference, and NCAA Division I-AA records,[3] as well winning two 1-AA National Championships and receiving the Walter Payton Award for most outstanding player in 1-AA football. Peterson was also a member of the Seattle From 1998-2001, Peterson played for Georgia Southern. He finished his career, not including the playoffs, with 6,559 rushing yards, a Division I football record, and won the Walter Payton Award in 1999. He was the first sophomore to win the award for most outstanding player in I-AA football. Peterson finished among the top three vote-getters for the Walter Payton Award in all four of his college football seasons. In 57 career games including the playoffs, he carried 1378 times for 9145 yards (6.6 avg), 111 touchdowns and an average of 160.44 yards per game.[3] On September 29, 2012 Peterson was inducted into the Georgia Southern hall of fame in a ceremony held during halftime at Paulson Stadium. In January 2014, College Sporting News announced that the FCS Offensive Player of the Year Award will be named after Peterson.[5]

Wish his success would've continued into the NFL, he was exciting to watch at Georgia Southern and a very humble player.

Gus Edwards 6'2 230 pounds - Rushing Data Coverage (*=bowl stats included)

*2013 Miami (FL) ACC FR RB 9 66 338 5.1 5
*2014 Miami (FL) ACC SO RB 10 61 349 5.7 6
2015 Miami (FL) ACC JR RB
Career Miami (FL) 127 687 5.4 11

Eddie George 6'3 235 pounds - Rushing Data Coverage (*=bowl stats included)
Year School Conf Class Pos G Att Yds Avg TD
*1992 Ohio State Big Ten FR RB 11 37 176 4.8 5
*1993 Ohio State Big Ten SO RB 12 42 223 5.3 3

*1995 Ohio State Big Ten SR RB 13 328 1927 5.9 24
Career Ohio State 683 3768 5.5 44

Both backs are pretty similar at this point in their career. When given the opportunity Eddie George's stats shows the potential results that Gus Edwards can put up. (Note: The offense that the last staff put in place may not have been the best fit for Gus and his health over the years have been an issue so I would assume that we haven't yet seen him at his best.)

Consensus All-American: 1995
Heisman Voting: 1st in 1995

Draft: 1st round, 14th overall of the 1996 NFL draft by the Houston Oilers

Lets clear something up here...lol
Walton is not young. He reclassified because he should have been in that class, and if he did not would not have played a full year the next yr. He was in the process of using 5 yrs to finish high school until he put it in gear in the classroom. Do not remember it exactly, but I believe that was the reason for the reclassification.

Dwins, how exactly is McCloud the hardest hitter? I have never even seen the kid play a college game. However, the previous guys mentioned have shown us that they can hit. Not trying to pick on you or McCloud but that one kinda came from left field.

Please lets not compare Gus to Eddie George, Gus is NOT Eddie George. He will not even have the opportunity to put up Eddie George numbers. I like Gus, I think he will do much better then the SoFla nut huggers on these boards. But I also think he still has a lot to prove, and he does seem to get smashed by MLB's lol

Eddie George?!?
Aiight, I'll holla...

This is one of the many reasons why I can't wait for games to start.
People seem to analyze every little thing that comes out of coaches mouths and get into the stupidest arguments and games of semantics.

Who cares about "elite" or not "elite". The fact of the matter is these players have talent and we finally have a RB coach and a play-caller who knows what to do with all of them.

Good point but apparently mccloud has been hitting the hardest in the camp outside of Jamal Carter. That's what Ryan bartow said or something similar in his inside practice notes

L-O-L

We don't have any.

We have more than adequate backs if our OL responds to Searels.

I love everybody who has given up on Walton...time to learn.

UM

We could have the Cowboys OL, still doesn't mean our backs are "elite". Elite to me has always meant the top tier at your position. Elite RBs in college right now would be players like Cook, Fournette, and McCaffrey. Maybe if you put all 4 RBs of Yearby, Walton, Gus, and Homer together, you get an elite back but that's it. I think we have a good stable of RBs but certainly not elite. Nobody has given up on Walton that's for sure.

Walton

Facts :Ranked # 23 in ACC in Rushings yards (461) Not ranked in top 100 nationally (#100 player had 798 yds)
Ranked # 40 in ACC in yds/carry (3.55) Not ranked in top 100 nationally
No runs over 30 yds in 100+ attempts

They aren't elite but Yearby and Walton will both play in the NFL. Yearby's year last year wasn't all that far off Gio Bernard's sophmore season (same YPT, 300 less total yards and 6 less TDs - both of which would have been higher without Walton). Walton's a solid all around back who can get tough yards. He's a little bit like Mike James, but more upside.

Joe has an elite set of skills. There are few people who can make someone miss like Joe can. He also has outstanding hands. He does not have exceptional speed, but he makes up for it with excellent quickness and vision. He is limited by his shorter than average legs.

Walton is a good all around back IMO. He doesn't do anything special. It's his toughness that sets him apart. With another year of elite level training and nutrition he will be the type of back that imposes his will on the defense. He has a ceiling as high as anyone's. He doesn't have elite speed, but few backs do.

Gus has elite physical tools. His feet are outstanding for a big man. He has flashed breakaway speed and great vision and balance. What he lacks is a mean streak.

Lol if Yearby and Walton were at FSU or UF / u all would add them to the list, *****ing about how all the top sfl talent wont stay home / but bc they stayed home.... "Theyre not elite" lol clowns

Outside of being elite or not, I hope that when they are hot and running well they don't get automatically subbed out like previous years. Stick with the hot hand until he actually needs a break not because a card says the other guy should be getting carries around now. It seemed like anytime one of them started developing a rhythm he'd head to the bench. You can't take anything over from the sidelines.
