This type of game needed to happen

VTech is a team of grown men. Their record is deceiving and their coach is horrible management wise.

Make no mistake -- this was their Super Bowl. Credit to their staff: they scouted us well, had a great game plan, and matched up perfectly w us.

I don't see this game as a omen of things to come. Sometimes a team is simply great at all the things you're weak at.

That's where a player like 1 can make all the difference.

Or you can just watch the games and quit throwing stat lines at me. Not going to argue about it. We aren't a NC team.

If we win the acc and look good vs a top end sec team, I'll gladly come back and eat crow.
throwing "stat lines" lmao. you mean, what actually matters?

We have the #1 offense in the nation in YPP (still will be top 3 probably after this week), a potential heisman-winning QB, and a throw-first offense

our run game has been fine, just because it's not good enough for you and isn't 10 yards per carry, that doesn't mean it hasn't been efficient

Run game hasn’t been good. All the yards have come late in blowout games

We aren’t as good as our ranking, but we are not as putrid as some suggest. How much does playing on short rest, banged up key players, and against an old rival that is a wounded animal dying to ruin your season affect the outcome? Probably a considerable amount but hopefully this was our “bad game” and we get healthier and better effort very soon.

Stat lines aren't going to show you the issues. Take away a 17 yard run and a botched snapped for 8 and you could claim it was below 3 ypc. Our run scheme is *** and rbs consistently missing lanes. Ol consistently getting knocked back. I have no ******* clue how a team can be so good as pass blocking and then get their **** pushed in running the ball.

Our best bet is to get in pistol and run zone/power or introduce a ton of read option/rpo they run when poffs in the game.

**** go watch famu. Quit sending me a stat lines where our qb ran for 60 yards in pass blocking sets telling me our run game is fine.

ah the ol "take away all of our good plays and we suck" argument

did you know if we took away cam ward's 4 touchdown passes last night, he would have zero?

wow, we should bench cam ward, that's unacceptable

He had 189 yards passing on 57% completion. That’s not good
Those stats are bad. He made big plays he normally doesn’t make and drove down the field at ease to nearly win it. Shouldn’t have ever happened.

Not trying to be that guy but this is cope. VT is not the team you want a wake up call from. They lost to Vanderbilt of all teams.

We could have said the same thing after the GT loss last year but we got worse after that game. The type of wake up call game you want is Georgia's wake up call against a ranked Kentucky team not a team that might not make a bowl game.
What ranked Kentucky? They would lose to VTech if VTech played anywhere close to how they did last night

Hey dip ****, I'm talking about not being a NC team due to secondary and rush game. Don't forget my point. Watch the games. I even said in a reply "we also have cam ward, lol"

Here was our run game. 32 carries.

1. 57 yards on qb scrambles in pass sets.
2. A 17 yard run
3. A 8 yard botched play
4. A 24 yard reverse

The shining light is we can get 1-2 yards when absolutely needed. We couldnt do that last year.

Our offense and pass offense desperately needed a consistent run offense last night to take pressure off cam. We couldn't do it. The only time we did was 2 drives in the 3rd quarter and Cam had some of his best drives then.

The point in argument is are we NC team. You take some pressure off cam, you can be. We aren't right now. If you want to ignore glaring issues, go for it. If I'm wrong, based on what we've shown in 4 games, again, I will glady eat crow and admit i don't know ball.

Dude the run game isnt and hasn’t been good. They picked up yards vs famu and ball st in the 2nd half of blowout games. Didn’t run the ball good vs usf either then Lyle broke the 91 yard run when the game was in hand

I thought Pry out coached Mario last night. Sure he had some bone head plays like the fake FG but if it works he’s a genius.

Mario is a great recruiter but on game day he’s a liability. This is why I thought Lane Kiffin was the better choice but we will see how it plays out.
but if it works? lol how about the running back pass that threw the ball into the stands.

also, he burned the clock out on his own team.

every team gets tested. we need a magic fumble return too beat BC in 2001.
That being said, our CB's are a problem. Our DT's arent the greatest either.

We actually just needed to fall on the ball. Ed had a flare for the dramatic and I remember the coaches being like, WTF is he doing. The dude stole the ball from his teammate. The 2002 team survived like 56-46 against VT. Back in 1988, AA all everything Safety Steve Atwater dropped an easy INT and we scored to win 18-16 against Arkansas.

If this pitiful VT team can come to within 1 replay of beating us at home in our first ACC game of the season in front of that crowd, then just about any ACC team can beat us.

We need our A-game every week or we will fall short of expectations. That is it. That is the only take away.
There are many take away a from this game and we just proved we don’t need out “A” game to win an ACC game. No team plays their “A” game every week. The take away is we found a way to win while not playing our best game.
A wake up call means you were smelling yourself. If our first conference game after beating up on G5 schools and coaches isn't enough to have you ready this is the same Canes. Cam is the only reason I believe in this team so anything being different relies heavily on him.
Cam was also the reason we were in a dog fight last night (3 turnovers)? Help me make sense of that dichotomy.
