This type of game needed to happen

If this pitiful VT team can come to within 1 replay of beating us at home in our first ACC game of the season in front of that crowd, then just about any ACC team can beat us.

We need our A-game every week or we will fall short of expectations. That is it. That is the only take away.

You’re not really comparing us and our performance with Georgia, winner of the 2 of the three last 3 national championships?

One team has a recent history of overcoming and success. The other won 7 games last year.
One team has a history of losing tonight's game, usually by several TDs yet didn't. But yes I see that you don't watch football outside of Miami and think championship teams don't get lucky breaks against bad teams. You also think Kentucky is a good team so there's that.

Not trying to be that guy but this is cope. VT is not the team you want a wake up call from. They lost to Vanderbilt of all teams.

We could have said the same thing after the GT loss last year but we got worse after that game. The type of wake up call game you want is Georgia's wake up call against a ranked Kentucky team not a team that might not make a bowl game.
Yes we can call it cope. But plenty of really good teams have had this happen to them.
We were down 10 points and looked out of our element in the 4th quarter.

We looked like a team that thought this was gonna be cakewalk and had zero momentum.

We came back and won. That’s note cope, that’s a resilient team. 20 years of persistent folding under the same circumstances.

Not today.

Were you really expecting a season where we roll every team? Not to struggle, go undefeated and beat every spread?

This isn’t the 2001 team who btw was in a dog fight with vt as well.

But just because we aren’t the 2001 team, it doesn’t mean we can’t have a really good season because of today.

2 things..

One, for some reason I don’t feel so bad about losing to Rutgers in the bowl game anymore. Those guys are legit.

Two, for everyone asking how VT lost to Vandy/Rutgers because they look better then a 3 loss team…I present to you..Brent Pry. That guy has to take some blame for that loss. He made a lot of losing decisions as a HC and he needs to acknowledge that and not just blame that Hail Mary call like that’s the only reason they lost.

Rutgers is now 5-0 and Vandy was inches away from defeating a top 10 Mizzou…their losses have all been very CLOSE. Literally like 5-6 plays away from being 5-0 themselves.
Yeah, I just went through the play by plays for both of their losses. Lost in OT to Vandy and a three point loss to Rutgers. Both games had terrible first halves and both games saw Va Tech recover and be fairly dominant in the second half. Last night must have been refreshing for them to have such a good first half.

As an aside, amazing what a game of inches that it was. If Restrepo doesn’t make that catch, we lose. If CJ Jr doesn’t break that kick return with 20 seconds left in the first half, we don’t get that field goal…and we lose. A lot went wrong last night but some key things went very right. One of the more memorable Canes games that I’ve watched.

Needed a wake up call and a recalibration after 4 games of cupcakes.
If usf didn’t ring this team’s wake up alarm. VTECH did.

Outstanding show of resilience and effort.
Hats off to the crowd!!!!

Expect everyone to play their superbowl against us, cause if you don’t then you’ll end up in the L column.
100% agree.
Everybody has been telling them how great they are.
Next week will show us everything we need to know about this team.

We did need this, great to learn while winning.

Our corners had not be tested in the run game.

They struggled mightly tonight.

11 on defense had a rough night. Constantly beat to the edge. Not breaking down, under control allowing the QB to escape which lead to him throwing two touchdowns.

Offense the run game and generally speaking Cam didn’t protect the football. Some of that you just have to live with his brilliance as we saw at the end of the game.
Not just 11 but the Dline as a whole was taking terrible angles all night, especially Alston

12-13 the last 2 years. If they needed a wake up call in week 5 nothing is different about this team. They should be on high alert all season as a team that has accomplished nothing.

I agree and hopefully this is our worst game all year. Need to clean up the defense but hopefully rivers and Bain come back next week those are two huge additions. Need to get brown back before Lville. A game like this can help get healthy and keep winning
