This quote sums up this team and staff

Im
Very concerned that some of the winning is masking what’s truly going on.

We are seeing and hearing things that I just don’t believe happen in good coached programs.
Don't let the slurpers hear that tho. 5-1 WOOOHOOO

It’s also time to restructure the recruiting model. South Florida kids USED to be tough and play with a chip.

we don’t recruit those types anymore. We recruit nice guys that live doing community service.

we need to start going after tougher more edgy kids. Great football is played all over the map. We need to start getting more Texas, NY, VA, LA kids

Been saying for ages. South Florida talent is watered down. There are some studs at the top but many are overrated bc of 7on7. And in typical fashion we don’t land the top kids anyway outside of a few.

The way you create that culture is through competition. When there’s no one pushing you, you tend to slack. This is as much a recruiting/personnel problem as an attitude problem.
It's no coincidence that the best performance our wide receivers had was after basically being called out in public last week and competition opening for starting roles.

It's crazy. We brought in three wide receivers for the 2020 class. We have three wide receivers at least incoming for 2021. That 6 fresh bodies at minimum competing for your starting sport, by virtue of which you are putting up game film to potentially get drafted. And they don't think that the pressure is on them?

You guys are looking to pin this on someone, anyone, but the problem is probably rather simple.

We don't have a good stable of WR's and they're all pretty similar in what they bring to the table. There's not that one guy, an upper classmen, that's the guy. He's got all the talent in the world, is driven, and everyone else wants to get on that level.

When you don't have someone like that, your unit can become stagnant. So you're a starter here, what's that mean? Not a whole lot, you're just the best of a subpar unit. You don't even know you're subpar, there's nobody to show you any different. You're not being pushed. Even the corners you line up against aren't pushing you, they're average as well.

So you have some success in practice. You think you're doing well, then you play some other teams. ****, it works in practice, what's going on here? Why am I not performing?

I would say that's the main problem and they're getting a baptism through fire in our games. They now know they have to be better. Everyone sees it, them included. It's time to put in more work and get better.

I think he’s shocked that at Houston he had better WRs who might have been preparing harder and getting open

to being heee with talented dudes who do the ABSOLUTE minimum so they can get back on their phones to see where the party is

While he likely had better WR's at Houston, all the effort in the world isn't going to change who we've got. We've got two slot guys and a fast twig with brick hands we're trotting out there as the 1's. I'm not going to put the young guys below them on blast, but they're more of the same as WR is arguably the easiest spot on the team to play as a Freshman. They still need work though and experience as most Frosh aren't fully ready to be a 1 at any school.

I don't know about you guys, but on the field, I can tell King is getting annoyed/frustrated with certain things going on.
When you're always the hardest working guy in the room but making the same pay regardless, it sucks.
Also seen that.... totally disappointed in payton had high expectations that he wouldn’t be a jag but that’s what it seems like he’s turning into

I've never been a Harley fan. He finally showed up last night. And what he said goes totally contrary to what has been said before - WR staying after practice to work with King, etc. He's an idiot

The thing that could be taken out of context is that he is talking about "himself"....he honestly could be taking about the other members of the wr group and said we to not actually single a person out.

From what we've seen...he has appeared to be a hard worker here because his talent level isnt all that. He appeared to put in work in off season and during covid. He has been the leader of that unit so im guessing its what he is talking about...other guys film review/hours might have been bare minimum, attention to detail,e tc.

I played ball and we would have guys whow ere captains and hard workers that made these type of statements all the time

And like The Swagger said he likely is just repeating coach speak that they heard all week.

Exactly that bottom part..personally I’m not reading too much into what a kid says. It’s probably just coach speak to get these guys to see a new level. I’ve heard stories of Kevin Johnson dogging all Americans and future draft picks so they wouldn’t get comfortable and kept them on edge. Coaches should Always Challenges guys

Every offseason you hear about how things have changed, then this **** comes out mid season every **** year.
This year’s team has lEaDErSHiP. It’s why we’re 5-1 bro

Y'all put too much weight into player blah blah blah and coach speak.

Natural, upon improvement, for a player to give a "why" regarding things being where they were versus where they are.

Worked harder this week and it paid off—blah, blah, blah.

Guys go through slumps and either come out of them, or don't. Harley had the big grab last week for a score against Pitt and it carried over to this week.

Pope worked as hard, had the one big grab (that was overturned) but still dropped two routine back-to-back balls late that might've cost Miami the game if Wiggins didn't get that late PI that helped chew 2:30 off the clock, leaving the Cavs no time on the final drive.

News flash; these older receivers are underachievers that aren't that good—part of a 13-16 the last year, plus—dating back to the 10-0 start in 2017.

There's been a loser's mentality around here and it carries over. King is trying to change the culture and winning is helping—but there's a lot of bad muscle memory with seniors like Harley and juniors like Wiggins.

Younger kids needs to change that by feeding off of King's winning ways and a good run this season.

That quote coming from a guy like Harley who is supposedly a very hard worker speaks volumes. Who is allowing short cuts especially by the veterans? Manny the cheerleader needs to wake the **** up and start demanding more and get rid of the all the accessories and cheering on mediocrity like it’s something we can be proud of. Not one person can look at last night and really think warranted jumping up and down and hugging Wiggins on a PI and using the tarp as a slip and slide. Add in the faux FSU cigars and it’s embarrassing. No wonder Dabo tried to stick it in his *** with time remaining.
