This is the most anticipated start to a season since??

The lies being told on here that offseason, I was like, we already small and slow and we moving avg LB to DE and "avg" safeties to LB to get smaller to play Bama?! :ibis-roflmao-sm3:
Some of those insiders disappeared after that

As soon as the ball was snapped it was obvious we weren’t in their stratosphere

The answer for me though this is the most optimistic ive ever been

Too young and dumb to appreciate the 2000-2001 Canes

2021. Coming off a 2020 8-3 season with King back as the starter.

CIS had Miami beating Alabama and going undefeated.
Good thing I don't remember those idiots lol. King was a few months removed from an ACL tear and he shouldn't have started that 2021 season especially against a team like Alabama. Absolutely embarassing game and what made me laugh the most was celebrating the ******* turnover chain down 150 and then it got reversed.

With last years success, our returning guys, and adding Mensah, I'm very confident in the team to come out and be high-powered.

I'm still apprehensive, bc both last season and the season before, the team had to have players-only meetings to address major issues.

If the culture has finally overcome that, the team will make another run.

Please tell me this is a joke. We were 20 point underdogs before that Alabama game and Alabama was coming off one of its most dominant National Title wins in the entire Saban era. If we kept it close, our fanbase should have been satisfied..maybe.

Oh yeah and D King, as much as I loved him and think he doesn’t get a lot of love from a Canes QB/history perspective, tore his ACL in the very last game of the 2020 season. No way he was coming back 100% for the Alabama game. There were rumors and some people suggesting he sit that game and come back for ACC play to give him extra time to heal. It wasn’t a bad idea..

That really ruined what was once a great gimmick (the chain). Sigh….

There isn’t anything NOT to look forward to right now as a Canes fan. I think we should be ranked somewhere in the Top 5 in the preseason but we know the AP ranking system has to setup its SEC Ponzi scheme and throw clowns like Texas, Ole Miss, Georgia, or whatever mediocre SEC teams in front of everyone so when they beat each other, they’ll all have “super tuff gutsy losses”. Lol. I’d put us at #3.

Those who say we lost a lot on the DL, so what. Coming into 2025 we had “plenty of questions” about the position group and, well, we had 2 guys on the DL ball out so hard they were taken early in the first round of this years draft. I think we had depth there last season and shouldn’t expect to see a drop off significant enough for it to be a major issue.

OL same deal. We lost Fran but we reloaded. There hasn’t been a bad OL as a whole since Mario got here aside from the dreadful 2022 team but those weren’t his guys. We’ll be fine here.

Every other position is either just as good as last year or arguably better. I don’t know if we’ll run the table in 2026 just because doing so in this era of CFB is so difficult (minus 2025 Indiana) but I fully expect the following:

An 11-1 regular season at worst.
An ACC title win or at least an appearance.
A deep CFP run and maybe another shot at a natty.

I’m not joking. The “15-0” came from that season and team. CIS really thought Manny was king

Last year and it’s not even close.

Last year was the final fork in the road.

This year is house money.

I can't remember anytime in my 40 years of being a Canes fan being more excited about a season to start.

We have the deepest team in all of CFB. The only thing that can prevent a deep playoff run is an injury to Mensah.
This might be the only way Toney could somehow manage to exceed expectations.

I’m gonna go 2006. Even in 2005, we were preseason Top 10. So we, foolishly, were still convinced we were a national powerhouse.

We went 9-3, so OK, we’re still not totally off the cliff. Let’s right this thing. Headed into 2006 I was still puffing my chest out that Miami was at the upper echelon of the sport. We were preseason #11, but we dropped a really ugly opener at home to FSU. Beat FAMU the next week but then I think a real turning point came for the program. We went to Louisville, stomped on their logo before the game, pretty much started a fight……and got blown out of the ******* building, 31-7. I won’t lie and say I was totally despondent at that point, sometimes when you’re in it, you can’t see the forest for the trees. But I specifically remember thinking, uh, this isn’t supposed to happen? What in the absolute **** is going on?

We went 7-6 that year, Coker got fired, Bryan Pata got killed and we basically swam in mediocrity for the next 20 years. Every single year after that I was optimistic, as always, but never really felt we belonged. Until now. 20 years later.

That’s what the kids call “epic fail”. No one anywhere, including my fan friends thought we had any chance. It sucks to have had to play Alabama when they were at their peak and we were still a 2nd class program. NIL hadn’t fully developed and leveled the playing field yet. Once it did, ole Saint Nicky took off running.

I agree with “never feeling like we belonged” for that entire 20 year period. Never did we beat a team half as talented as the Ohio State we easily handled in the Cotton Bowl. It was like every CFP game was our biggest win in 20 years.

All we had was that 2017 thrashing of Notre Dame. They were good and very much in the CFP hunt. I think they came in sleep walking when we were hungry to prove ourselves despite being undefeated. We had a lot of balls bounce our way leading up to that game. It was amazing and maybe we felt like we belonged for about 6 days. Then it was back to needing come from behind victories over ACC chumps.

And a bunch of idiots don’t realize how deep we are- they’re worried about us losing people in their defensive line while they don’t give a **** that Ohio State lost three people off their defense in the top 11 draft picks

We are going to be underrated while still being in the top 10
