This is the most anticipated start to a season since??

For me this is how I felt coming into 2001. We had a really good team in 2000 that came up just short, albeit by the BCS computer and not on the field.

We lost some really good players to the NFL draft; 2000 we lost Morgan, Moss, Wayne (all 1st round picks), Blades, King, Jones

We saw flashes from freshmen who would become stars themselves; 2000 it was Vilma, DJ, Andre Johnson

But we have great depth and it finally feels more like reloading rather than rebuilding. This season cannot start soon enough.
 
I'm so pumped this year. I think Mario truly turned the corner after SMU. Barring injuries, there is no ceiling to this team's potential.
 
1991 season.

While some can argue 2001, I was nearly certain we'd run the table and wasn't at all surprised when we did. We really should have won the NC in 2000 and then returned the heart of the team for 2001. Heck, that was the players' pitch to keep Coker as Butch's replacement.

In 1991, we had come off the Cotton Bowl destruction of Texas, but had clearcut favorites ahead of us. I think FSU was a near consensus #1. That role (higher ranked team on our schedule) will be played by ND this season, and just like then, we'll have to travel to snatch their chain.

There are questions. There are some concerns. We have a lot, but it's still a little closer to uncertainty than 2001.
 
I think the right answer is "last season". Really excited to see Mensah with that cast surrounding him. The OL is the question ... how dominant will they be compared to last year's group? Overall expectation due to Mensah + the LOADED WR/RB/TE rooms .. is that the offense will be better than last year. "Conventional wisdom" re the D is "man Miami lost two 1st round draft picks on the D line ... they will take a step back". Well ... that seems to be a fallacy. The overall D might be as good (a bit different) or even better. ADD TO THAT the HUNGER factor ... almost winning it all and not getting it done .... that could very well lead to UM being a more effective overall team and better record in 2026. BRING ON THE SEASON.

I pray it is exactly that….if the OL outperforms predictions, it could very well be exactly like that…

I dont think we even need them to be dominant, that would be asking too much, just be competent. Please. The 2027 team is when things get spooky if we return reasonable amount of guys.. The way that team will be set up will be hard not to portal a QB the way it will be plug n play, my gawwww
 
There are definitely solid comparisons to the 2000 into 2001 season. However, even back then I was my mopey self. We didn’t know how Larry Coker would do as head coach.

Today we have similar strengths on the field. Talent and depth.

Like 2000, we need to eliminate the head scratching losses.

I have never been more confidant about winning the conference, though. We need to pummel ever ACC team this year.
 
Last year

I said we HAD to win 10+ games in order to keep the momentum/recruiting rolling, Mario and the team had to turn the corner decisively. They did with the CFP run and beating Ohio St.

We're more loaded than any Miami team since 2004. I'm excited as ****.

Brother, I like to go back and watch that game to see Manny’s reaction to the non-safety call (it wasn’t a safety/intentional grounding) and the next play Bryce Young hit Williams on a 90+ yard TD pass. We got mauled lol
