This is the kind of quote that makes me think he'll never get it

Our defense definitely took a step back this year, but I'm wondering how much of that was due to the offense. The defense is going to get gassed pretty quickly after endless 3 and outs by the offense.
Our offense was one of the bottom 5 WORST in all of D1 football

We were THE worst 3rd covering team in D1 football

Yeah the offense defiantly consistently put the defense in ****** spots

I agree, but the point to add is that Manny's D under Blake Baker is not exactly going well either. We lost the UNC game on a 4th and 17 breakdown and Vatech scored over 40 on us. Plus, FIU and duke beat us as well. Our D has been ok but nothing special.

My point is this UM football team has a lot of issues and it won't be fixed with the current leadership.
Manny was never an elite DC. He was above average and inconsistent. Which is how it’s played out basically. He parlayed a bit of a fluke season into a head coaching job. What are you going to do I guess?

There is no point in beating this up.

We are in a win, win situation. Either Manny finds lightning in a bottle with the most important hire of his head coaching career or he is fired and goes on to coach linebackers in 2021 or 2022.

It is that simple.
Manny being here for 2021 is 95% dependent on his oc hire

Y’all have thought Manny was gonna say he planned on firing Dan’s *** weeks ago? He’s gone now so I don’t really see why it matters.

Manny said that despite the report, he had not fully made up his mind about Enos and wanted to see how this LA Tech game went:

“We still had a chance in the bowl game to see could there be potential for any improvement with the idea of, ‘Hey, this is something that can be turned around and get better’ ... Obviously the way that we performed in the bowl game just showed that was not the case.”

So, my desire for us to rip apart LA Tech, appears to have been ill placed. According to this quote, assuming it's not just coach speak (and I suspect it isn't), if we had ripped apart LA Tech like any team with our talent should have done, Manny would've pulled a Golden, and kept his buddy.

Wow. I mean, since he is coming back for one more season, I foolishly am hoping against hope that just maybe, we can have a positive season in 2020, but reading this quote... just wow....

Enos and Diaz were "buddies"? First time I hear this. Anyways, whatever, he's gone. Now people are complaining how it was done. LOL

Agreed, but I would add that he parlayed two fluke-ish seasons into a head coaching job at Temple (which would have been a fair career progression at that point). Then, Manny capitalized on it a second time when our scared and lazy AD offered him the HC job within hours of Richt's abrupt retirement.

I'm just not convinced a better OC gets results so much better it saves Manny's job. Remember, he will still have a QB room that is a huge mess. He will still have an O-line that is weak. The head coach sets the tone for the entire team, and Manny just doesn't command respect.

You seem to suffer from an absence of common sense. Enos was fired immediately after the bowl game which meant that the decision to part ways was made before that (report leaked day of game). This was all coach speak and it's clear they didn't want to make a move until after the early signing period.
In addition, who was gonna call plays for the bowl game, Hickson or Stubblefield?

Win/win? Lmao. How about lose, and lose some more? This goes way beyond an OC hire. Mannys going to keep himself, and most of a staff that just lost to Dook, FIU, and La Tech down the stretch. UM football is at a low of epic proportions, and even if (when) he crashes and burns even more next season, what makes you think the guy that hired him (and the people that signed off on that fiasco ) will get it right next time, given the now 20 year track record of futility. Thats a lot of lightning UM has to catch in a bottle.

No. There’s a third option... the team improves just enough to give Blake reason to keep diaz another season.

This is the worst, and most likely outcome

If you've ever been a manager you would know firing is the hardest thing you do. If he want's to be great he will have to be good at firing but it's very very difficult..

Or he makes a mediocre hire that is only slightly better than Enos, we win like 8 games next year with no marquee losses to the FIU/La Tech types and Blake and the administration cite this as some great improvement and trend toward success and keep him for a 3rd year.

Believe me, there's ALWAYS a gray area with UM where they leave room to keep to keep the status quo.
