This is not a smart team

whats interesting is Wes, Bain, Cooper, and some of the younger kids dont make the dumb plays.
Also, dontsee the stupid celebrating.
Agreed and I’m not one of the “play the freshmen they’re always better” guys but they are about business whereas the others… yeah.

And yeah agree kam and JW have been objectively very bad at times. Too much freelancing not enough punishment for it

Backbreaking mistakes is the theme of this team.
Turnovers
Penalties
Broken/missed plays

Always at the most critical times that just magnify the mistake. Only this team knows how to make a mistake into a game losing mistake every time and they do it repeatedly.

Luckily it happened very early against A&M and we could recover or we'd even be worse off than we are.

But this team doesn't look very different from last year and our win against A&M is looking very similar to our close loss to A&M from last year

Last week, we made international news for stupidity. This week, we followed it up by:

- Committing three unsportmanlike penalties, including one by an assistant coach.

- Calling a timeout, sending 12 men on the field, and giving up a touchdown.

- Giving up a TD on 3rd and 18, and then another on 3rd and 20.

Add in two fumbles plus a bad INT, and you have a soul-crushing beatdown on the road.

For some reason, when things go bad over the last few years, we lash out at our "good-but-not-great-enough" players. Guys like Quarterman and Kaaya are recent examples. Those guys were good players and got excessive backlash for not being great. We're seeing it now with Kam and TVD. Any team in America would take Kam. And while TVD isn't Drake Maye, he is one of the most efficient passers in the nation over his career.

The problem is much deeper. We beat ourselves more often than a 14-year-old with Cinemax. We do dumb things consistently, even in our best win against Texas A&M. It's too much to overcome when you don't have elite talent.

Our momentum is cooked. Clemson is a chance to turn things around, with two tomato cans looming after that. But Clemson won't beat themselves. That's why they win. I love recruiting. But if recruiting needs to make up for coaching, we're stuck in neutral. This team needs to start playing clean football. If they don't, this will be a very expensive version of the same season we've seen for two decades.
Neither is unc with 100 penalties. Drake Maye is going to be a draft bust. The kid look shook in half one. Just you wait.

You know that team we played tonight, are they a dumb team?

They made a lot of stupid mistakes. They kept our drives alive at times with them. They shot themselves in the foot more often than not in the first half. Even at key times.

I don't know why fans do this. They look at a game and see only what could've been from their end.

We could've won that game if only we didn't do this dumb ****. We'll I've got news for those types of fans as to what Carolina fans and coaches are saying.

We could've beat then by 30 or more if we didn't do this or that. Football isn't played in a bubble.

We won the first half, while they imploded with penalty after penalty. Halftime happens, they make adjustments and while we didn't help ourselves at times, they beat us handidly. They forced a lot of those mistakes, made football plays.

When we force a fumble, our fans say we made a great play, we forced it. When we lose a fumble, we don't credit the other team like we would ours, we criticize the player.

We didn't help ourselves offensively with the play calling but in the same breath, they adjusted and were winning one on one match ups consistently. They outplayed us, put us in a poor position, and took away what we thought would work while exploiting our weaknesses.

Yes stupid plays were made both ways, but quit looking at things one sided. That game was close until it wasn't. We didn't beat ourselves, we got beat. Point to anywhere on the field and there isn't one spot we're vastly superior at.
Yes, North Carolina is also a dumb team. They have been for years and they set penalty records tonight. It will haunt them against top competition and will probably cost them an easy one.

This isn’t Georgia Tech where we gave the game away to an inferior opponent. The talent level is similar and their QB is a true difference-maker, one of the best players in the nation.

But we control our unforced errors- non-physical penalties, snaps to nobody, breakdowns on 3rd and forever. When you play this sloppy on the road against a good opponent, you get this result.

@DMoney said it when we first hired Mario. Average coach but elite recruiter. At the time he wasn't saying it as a criticism either.

He needs top 5 recruiting classes to field top 10 teams.

Well he's about to be 0 for 3 on top 5 recruiting classes and I wouldn't expect him to put together a real top 10 team anytime soon.

Purgatory is appropriate for this dumb team.

They got game changers at wr and rb, we just have good players.

Margin for error is gonna be small in those kinda games, and we made too many timely mistakes..I still think we can finish the year strong

Those three drives in the third blew this game for us we were never gonna shut down Carolina it was gonna be a match them in points and make maye turn the ball over but once we gave up those points and we started letting them be able to run the ball confidently now because we’re in a bind and started pressing it was over we missed Darrel jackson tonight and we definitely missed tyrique or any big time corner we’ve failed to land over the years tonight because we aren’t a team who can play man legitimately when we need to and trust a guy to handle his business one on one against a very good wr and it showed tonight that’s our biggest portal misses of the offseason and it showed up tonight majorly but if we don’t turn the ball over multiple times it’s definitely a different game no doubt

Who do you blame for the long TDs on 3rd downs? Coaching?

Because We’ve seen it over and over, our “highly regarded” safeties playing out of position, trying to jump a route instead of playing within the defense

That’s not coaching that’s just players being bad football players while the game is happening

These guys are playing for highlight reel plays instead of winning Plays. Its cost us two games now

The only bright spot yesterday was when McElroy said the ACC has been a punching bag for years until this year and the other announcer shut him up and said "anyone who says that just doesn't know what they're talking about."
