Except when they lost to Northern Illinois.....at home. The UF bias was, like always, "Swamp" "SEC" like that would make them a good team instead of one that was mediocre at best from actual eyeballs. ND, when you actually watched them, they have their stuff together.
And ND's kickoff return to open the 2H swung it out of balance. Went from a 2 score game to a 3 score game and life sucked out of UGA in the blink of an eye. As a team you think, open the 2H, get a stop, get at least a FG and its a 7 point game and ND has to manage something on offense. It goes to 17 points in 15 seconds.Went back and watched the ND UGA game last year and it was closer than people probably remember it seemed UGA QB play was the difference
Agreed. That was their outlier for sure. But overall ND is a better operation and has their crap together more so than UF.Except when they lost to Northern Illinois.....at home.
Outlier or not, it happened and no one in the media is mentioning it. And just to be completely fair, this wasn't a G5 juggernaut, a la Boise State 20 years ago. Northern Illinois finished 7th in the MAC. Seventh. Is ND better run than UiF? Sure. So is my neighborhood preschool.Agreed. That was their outlier for sure. But overall ND is a better operation and has their crap together more so than UF.
I guess one could say their OLine and RBs might have the advantage over our DLine since we haven't seen Scott Blount or Blay in a starting role yet. If those 3 I mentioned are as advertised on the interior and our LBs can clean up any run plays that get through I can see a lopsided outcome akin to the UF game last year. Maybe we don't score as much, but this has the potential to be a defensively dominant game for the good guys.but the level of bias towards them is crazy, similar to level of bias to florida/SEC last year ... when you get down to it ... how many advantages do they actually have? i watch your podcasts, i can answer for you, you don't think they have alot advantages, if any
I'm not going that deep nor do I care about it. On the surface ND's "hype" is more understandable compared to UF's because the media/fans don't focus on any of the nuance. ND was the national runner-up. That's the last thing people remember. UF's hype was built on losing 4 straight games and ending 5-7 in '23. But because of "swamp" and "SEC" they were automatically seen as superior.Outlier or not, it happened and no one in the media is mentioning it. I'm not going to go so far as to say that ND isn't good or doesn't have a good program. They are indeed good and have a good program. I will say though that looking back on their 2024 campaign, their schedule was really weak and they caught several breaks with regard to the playoffs. They drew Indiana to open, then got a beat up Georgia team, and then Penn State before losing to OSU. In their defense, they did beat Indiana, Georgia and Penn State - consecutively - so for that, they deserve some love, but it doesn't erase the other points I made.
To keep it 100, who cares. 4 more days and we get to find out for real. I just hate these MFers passionately.
There are obviously a lot of unknowns for each team.once you get past name and the bias ... and when you get down to man on man, unit vs unit ... i don't see all these advantages the media is suggesting ...
Yup. I guess someone can be really smart and go through all the units one by one, but for me, it boils down to QB play. One guy is career 24-3 and the other has thrown as many college passes as you and I. Objectively, I think Miami wins.
Sure, but simply from a statistical view point, we out gained every opponent we played last year. Meanwhile, ND found ways to win games they shouldn't have won. Louisville and USC were 2 games that jump out.UF stunk. I said it all offseason and it was obvious early.
Notre Dame is a much more legitimate operation.
fair points and definitely agree in terms of your secondary, you guys have nice piecesThere are obviously a lot of unknowns for each team.
ND: New DC, green QB, and some portal guys
Miami: New DC, new secondary, new QB (although we all know he's pretty darn good), new WR room (lots of young talent and portal depth)
But ND likely has a few advantages, just like Miami does. For example, Miami has the clear advantage at QB, but ND likely has a distinct advantage when you match up our secondary vs. your receivers. Sure there was depth created from the portal and I know you're really high on Toney, but freshman receivers very rarely create massive impact on Day 1 out of nowhere. Can it happen? Sure, but 99% of the time everyone already knows there name (EX: Jeramiyah Smith).
The really interesting matchup for me is: ND LB/DL vs. Miami OL/RB. We know those groups for Miami are really good, especially the OL. For ND, we know what we have at LB, but does the DL get pressure (which needs to be schemed)? They absolutely have to figure out how to create wins against your really good OL, or it could be a long night.
I think ND also has an opportunity to get really creative and create mismatches in 21-personnel. Splitting Love out into the slot creates a 1:1 matchup with a LB or Safety and creates single coverage on a 6'7" tight end and at the boundary on a 6'4" WR. If Miami zones, it creates a fairly easy 'sit-down' 5-10 yard completion. The only question then becomes, does Carr make the right read?
This game is pretty fascinating when you dive down to the ground level: many games within the game. I think the probability of this game coming down to the 4th quarter is infinitely higher than a 2-score game either way.
agree on bain ... too many wr's with potential to say jojo has to go off, it could be toney, or daniels, or marion making a few big plays ... or lofton getting busy ... any of those getting loose will sufficeJust my two cents, we don’t win this game without bain being special on defense and jojo being special on offense.
Don't try to use logic and reason to explain away my irrational hatred of Notre Dame.I'm not going that deep nor do I care about it. I can at least "understand" people "thinking" ND has a solid squad.
Love toney. Not really expecting much from daniels personally in this matchup. But we’ll see.agree on bain ... too many wr's with potential to say jojo has to go off, it could be toney, or daniels, or marion making a few big plays ... or lofton getting busy ... any of those getting loose will suffice
