Totally agree. Someone starts the Lightfoot can't set the edge. Then it gets repeated 1000 times.

BUT, it still isn't true.

Nobody serious is saying he CANT set the edge. What people are saying they’re concerned about is what’s the drop off there from 3 and 4? Because, trust me, there will be a drop off. Does it mean the defense will suck? Obviously not. But it’s June and we’re nerding out on minute details. I am concerned about how Lightfoot and Wilson handle the edges in the run game compared to 3 and 4. Compound that with the loss of Scott, who was INSANE in run fits from the nickel, it’s a question that will need to be answered.

What if he fully grasps its money time and plays within the scheme and is, say, 90-95% setting the edge in what we had with Mesi, combined with double digit sack production?

The floor of this room is insanely high. The ceiling is outrageous.

Didn't Blount just turn 19? I'm pretty sure he's still younger than Josh Jobe was as a high school senior.

Yeah but Scott’s replacement had more tackles than him in less games. Ain’t worried about a thing. 3&4 weren’t on the edges all the time. They went inside a lot when safeties or backers or even corners (short side mainly) had the edges on running downs.

So why did Zion young set the edge well on the same Missouri team? They played a different de in place of wilson on run downs at times for a reason. No coach is just taking their starting de out the game for no reason lol. He just needs to improve in that area

As for lightfoot he is 220 probably, setting the edge at that weight is just going to be hard. He didn’t play alot for it to be all over film, he was in a designated pass rusher role last year. To be a for sure starter he will have to put on weight and play the run well

This isn’t knocks on our guys it’s just common football sense, both entering important years so im sure their will be improvement but its a big step down in edge run defense compared to mesi and bain. Heatherman can still produce a top run defense

That first clip is not him setting the edge, the edge setter sends it back inside to him, 2nd clip is him getting moved down field but his agility is off the charts so he makes the play

And mind you this is vs Stanford..No one is saying he can’t put on weight and improve but these examples are not proving anything at all

IIRC he was lined up in the A gap on the first 3rd down against OSU when Bain and Mesidor got the sack

He was playing just to the OSU centers left but he was in the DE position

Heatherman had Bain, Mesidor, and someone else lined up to the OSUs centers right side and they (OSU OL) absolutely got demolished by everyone

The video talks a lot about confusion and create chaos presnap and that’s such an under-discussed (that a term?) of what this DL will be doing this year with all that talent. It’s not a traditional line up 4-3 and call it a day defense

Blount is gonna be him. I’ve been saying this.

I can already hear Fowler and Herbie talking about how he’s carrying the mantle for Bain and Mesidor

18 years old playing in the biggest games and the biggest plays in a grown man position. He’s about to get scary
