This defense is only going to get better

We finally have depth and experience up front. UTOUGH has made a HUGE defense. I thought the defense was going to wear down after the paltry time of possession in the 2nd quarter, but they got STRONGER in the 2nd half.

Uif had 245 yards in the first half, but only 168 in the 2nd half (and 60 of that was on late TD drive with the 2 coverage busts).

We're playing with confidence and technique. I'm excited to see how we look moving forward.

AND DEON BUSH DIDN'T EVEN PLAY!

Look at our sophs with an added year of UTough and now picture Deon in the same boat.

Yup. I know I shouldn't look ahead, but...

LE Chickillo, Kamalu
NT Stuckey, Moore
DT Pierre, Hamilton
RE AQM, McCord
SLB Figueroa
MLB Kirby
WLB Grace
CB Howard
CB Gunter
NB Crawford
FS Bush
SS Jenkins

JUCO/free agents will be key to help up front, but man, that's a lot of speed and aggressiveness.

DT depth next year is a valid concern but you hit the nail on the head. The opportunity is there to be part of something special.

Today was very encouraging. The biggest thing is getting one more JUCO stud at DT or two. We do that and our defense will be nasty next year. Nasty.

on defense, I believe the only two freshmen who played were AQM and Figatron, and of the other newcomers, only Renfro and Gilbert played. In other words, it was mostly the same guys as last year, just bigger and better.

Just imagine if Devonte Bond can get his **** together and make it here in December like he said he is trying to.

Plug in Figueroa where Matthew Thomas is listed.
Plug in a JuCo or FA where Keith Bryant is listed.
The Jelani Hamilton prediction seems to have come true.

A forgotten name is Naim Mustafaa. He'll be able to play next year.

With some of the DEs we have coming in, that position is going to be filled to the brim with talent. We can finally redshirt a couple guys, maybe.

Chickillo
Mccord
AQM
Mustafaa
Chad Thomas
Trent Harris
Demetrius Jackson
Michael Smith

So, yeah.

[I think Kamalu slides inside]

Dwayne Hoilett still in the mix, too. I always liked his high school tape.

Let this man coach and build a program, watch the man take care of business (recruit, develop, create depth and coach).

We need a nose tackle to replace Porter and Renfrow. Other than that, I agree.

Few rambling thoughts about the DL.

How good were Chick and Green today?

Chick played an absurd amount of snaps and was effective all game long. His conditioning is unreal.

Green can be effective, as shown today, when he is in a rotation.

Hopefully a guy like Hoilett can develop into a solid rotation guy as well.

Not sure if EJ would be a better option then Armbrister and Figs.

Perryman had all all time Cane game.

Cornelius played well in his opportunities.

The Renfrow pick up was huge. Surprised he never played at UVA bc he has looked good.

Porter is a beast.

McCord is unreal off the edge.

Gaines has developed into a really solid college MLB. Really wish we had another year of him. I hope our fans stop writing off guys so early in their careers.

Agree, we definitely need another JUCO or 5th year guy to go with Stuckey.

I like the possibility of a Pierre/Hamilton/Kamula rotation at the other spot.

Will allow the young DTs to grow and RS like they all should. Maybe Valentine is good enough to play effectively early in small doses.

Earl Moore and Corey King are redshirting, I take it? Agreed that we need two JuCo additions who can play the plug role. Can Stuckey be one? I don't know enough about him or his style. We need another. I don't want to rely on Kamalu gaining 15-20 pounds of mass.
