This “Miami has no money” narrative needs to die a quick death

Still doesn't mean Miami has "money" like Bama, UT, Ok St, Orehon, OSU, etc.

Since private school, no public records, but would would interesting to see Miami's staff costs vs Bama.

Not true. There are records. Below is Miami and Alabama for the stated categories. Miami's fiscal year ended 5/31/2017. Alabama's ended June 30, 2017. Those are the most recent financials available. There is more available, but charts don't post properly, so I stuck to expenses and revenue for men's teams.

Expenses - Men's Teams
Basketball $7,547,589 $9,681,264
Football $33,018,938 $62,252,389
Total Expenses of all Sports, Except Football and Basketball, Combined $7,410,219 $10,074,583

Baby steps. Hope they realize if they continue to invest in the program, the program will yield rich, rich rewards. Keep upgrading. We will never be a Bama, but if we continue to invest in the football team, the athletic dept, we’ll make that money back hand over fist.

Did you see the run we had from 83-01. We keep those killas home that’s been going to bama and the other sec schools we absolutely run hard. Kids in Florida are better than they have ever been that’s the sad thing about the last decade or so.

Agreed.

I’ve been one of the negative Nancys about Um not spending coin and the lack of visiion for not seeing how lucrative the football program can be. But it wasn’t without merit. Didn’t we just see a video of our new oline coach a few years back at Central Michigan? The video was shot in their IPF!! Yes Central Michigan has an ipf before the U. How else are we supposed to feel about how serious the school was about the football program.
Last time we had game day didn’t someone in admission tweet out that they set a record for the amount of graduate program applications requested in one day?
Im sure the merchandise sale and tv revenue and now the acc network has some been counters pretty happy.
Maybe UM has turned the corner and we can finally add the pieces to the puzzle. The lack in spending has held us back for too long.

In some way, yes it is Miami. Problem is most of the rich people here don’t care about college football. However, if you’ve ever been to a city like Birmingham, Alabama you’ll see Southern money. Tons of huge houses and they love college football

Those "huge" houses in Birmingham would get you a 2 a bedroom apartment in Miami. This is no exaggeration either. Go to realtor.com or Zillow.com and look up Birmingham Al houses for sale. Find these "big" houses you are looking for. Then change the region to Miami, Fl or Coral Gables, FL and set the price range to whatever the Birmingham Al houses cost. You can see first hand.

Enos' salary as Bama QB coach was only $200,000 in 2018.

His total compensation was structured to factor in his Arkansas buyout so that he was pulling in around $900k. When you include that he was one of the highest paid QB/Co-Oc in the nation, if not the highest.

I have been one of their harshest critcs when it comes to spending - and I give them major credit for going out and hiring Enos.

Also, major respect to UM for being forward thinking and hitting that transfer portal hard. That will pay off in a big way, if we get Hurts or Martell.

We’ll instantly be a better team next year. Credit goes where credit is due....hats off to them!

Some of those programs aren't making as much money as you would think. They're mortgaging their future. Alabama owes over 200 million dollars over the next 25 years.

Hahaha. Exactly. "Southern money" = having a Waffle House gift card with more than a $50 balance on it.

The SEC ain't even in the zip code next to the zip code in terms of actual alumni/booster money as the Big Ten schools or Texas. The SEC schools are just willing to SPEND that money as there often is zero pushback from the school administrations/local cities/state governments when they grossly overspend.

Facts. Not to mention the ACC schools like Duke and ND. Bama and UGA aren't even the richest of the SEC. TAMU and Vandy are A LOT wealthier. Like you said they just choose to spend more.

As someone that owns a real estate brokerage, I verify you are 100% correct sir. In fact, a 1 bedroom condo in a nice area of Miami costs more than a 4 bedroom home on a .25 acre in an upscale area of Birmingham. We must've really paid our OC hahahahaha

For sure. For whatever reason people don't understand this. They think ohh its a 6k squarefoot house with a modern interior. The guy must be super rich.

They are used to seeing these houses in Miami that are that size going for many millions, where as in Birmingham that same house is less than a million. There are houses going for sale right now that are 13k square feet for 1.5 million lol.

Those here would cost 2.5-3mil just to build. The land to build that size of house could be much more depending on location. I'd put the ratio at 1 to 5 on average.

They saw what happened last year. There is usually an uptick in admissions and donations when your team is good. They want that revenue. We are also about get that ACCN money. Makes it a bit easier to invest when you know you have cash flowing in no matter what. Refreshing to see

The increase in applications is chump change compared to the real revenue drivers, which is research. The reason WHY Miami can spend a little more money than in previous decades is because of an increase in revenue from the athletic department. What they kill, they can eat. Period. Plus, Diaz makes significantly less than Richt, so that money can be put into assistant salaries. Think about the fact that Diaz makes a million less per year. Plus, the DC he brought in is significantly cheaper than what Diaz himself made in that same role. Miami is still working within a budget, it's just that there is more flexibility because Miami isn't spending 4 million plus on a HC.

I don't know why this fanbase thinks that Miami has to "Invest" money into the program. That's not how collegiate athletics works. No well run school is taking money out of other areas and giving it to the athletics department. Miami has to maximize the revenue coming in, period.

Also means money goes farther there. Bag money. Coaching salaries. Etc. We not only need to match spending, but OUT spend the other schools if we want major talent to come to Miami.
