I don’t necessarily think this is a bad idea with the current ****** semi-pro environment that College Football has turned into.

Conferences wouldn’t be as important and not being in the Big 2 wouldn’t be such a death blow.

Bowl games are obsolete. More playoff games means less players opting out. Cam plays full game against Iowa St last year had that been a playoff game.

This will always be about money, if the data shows that's the way through, all these dirtbags will sign off. The expanded playoffs this past season weren't all that exciting, doubt expanding it will attribute to the success of tv ratings.

I’ve never thought that even with playoff expansion to 12 teams, I still thought CFB was still and would always be the superior product.

But this sh*t is getting ridiculous. Absolutely no reason for a 20+ team playoff.
They're about to **** up a soup sandwich. Literally the dumbest and greediest group of old white dudes good times for us poors as usual.

Four is the right number. Every real controversy in college football history is solved by four teams. And in most years, that’s overkill.

Expanding the playoffs was always a bad idea and it gets worse every year.
We know it’s wrong but would this eliminate the kids opting out of bowl games? If the holiday bowl becomes a 1st round game are kids going to be opting out of those games like they may normally do?

The ability to negotiate the amount of teams from each conference (BIG10 and SEC) is the driving variable towards the collapse of college football. That's what's driving this entire thing down the road.

As long as that remains it will either destroy the sport or force the SEC and BIG10 into their own conference. I'm not sure if they're trying to expand their power into the current structure or sabotage the status quo to accelerate their secession.

Not sure where I stand on playoff expansion, but this is a really good point.

IF it goes to 20 teams, What's so hard about having to top-20 ranked teams go to the show?

I don't care how good a team thinks they are, or how tough of a schedule they think they play...
If they're not ranked in the top-20, they're out.

We were discussing this over in Conference MEGA thread already...

The B1G folks think this is "brilliant" because it provides (to them) a much needed conference expansion relief off ramp. Their "empire" is arguably in the weakest position (too many members no one cares about and institutions who will never care either) long term from a strategic standpoint--especially national footprint and demographic trend patterns. The SEC, ACC, and to a degree Big 12 (the PAC-whatever is a basket case) occupy that high ground for the forseeable future. Say what you will about SEC bottom feeders (perhaps save Vandy), but those fanbases and institutions will bankrupt and die trying to become relevant. Obvioulsy ACC and Big 12 are hybrids og B1G and SEC in terms of commitment...and that probably shakes out if still travelling conference expansion road. That's why its strategically inconceivable (never underestimate muppets however) B1G would pass on Miami if conference expansion continues, but for no other reason than SEC containment/encirclement.

BUT...if
they [B1G] can get "everyone" to go along with SuperTournament To The Rescue! concept...that goes a long way in giving lifelines to ACC and maneuver space + time to Big 12 (Yormark has a big reputation afterall). B1G would basically be outsourcing conference expansion without having to bring in new members and pay that bill/dilution (nothing is for free long term)...thereby not having to face tough decisions of jettisoning their weak herd members in 2030s or during a SuperConference merger.

At face value, why wouldn't ACC and Big 12 be all-in on this? Buys time and space...

Also, don't even get started how useless and meaningless the bowl games are...not even scrimmage value at this point it seems...so from a roster standpoint (and perhaps unseen hand of NFL), showcases talent just a touch extra...I get thats a stretch..but still...

Careful what you ask for B1G, you just might get it.

I mean if you just imagine it like every conference does a 4 team playoff to determine the winner then the winner of the 4 major conferences do a 4 team playoff….
12 or 16 is a good number imo.
