MEGA There’s Still Hope for the ACCCG/CFB Playoffs Mega Merge Thread

If we end up playing a ranked team in Charlotte and winning convincingly, we could end up top 8 and hosting a playoff game.

Would be the best case scenario and would require some other dominoes to fall our way but it could easily happen if we make the ACCCG.

We jump Utah this week
Bama loses SECCG
BYU loses B12CG
We jump ND and OU since we'd be 11-2 and conference champs with another ranked win while they'd both be sitting at home at 10-2.

obviously if someone ahead of us loses it'll be the best case scenario

but here's a very likely scenario in my eyes and it's still one that ultimately has us in a relatively good position (considering)

1. Miami jumps Utah Tuesday to get to #12
2. Bama wins the SEC, A&M stays IN with just 1 loss, so bama jumps ND, ND is now #10
3. BYU goes to b12 title game and loses for 2nd time to TTU, BYU is OUT
so..
ND #10, Miami #11

now I dont think ND is getting left out

but if we're within 1 spot (or even 2 of ND)

I do think we both get In
will they "penalize" the winner of a conference championship? Supposedly not...

How? At whose expense

Miami or Virginia are the only locks to make the playoffs if they win out. SMU, Pitt, and Duke would likely still be behind the Sun Belt and American champs and get left out entirely.

If the conference WANTS to make something happen, they sweeten it for those 2 teams. It should be easy to do for Duke vs Wake as it will likely be close. A call or 2 probably sways it.

Gonna need Cal and VT to make things close enough just to make it possible. Even Pitt/Miami.. might as well just favor Miami because Pitt winning that game still has slim chance to make the ACCCG if SMU/UVA also win.

Seems to me they intentionally scheduled games in the order they need to fall. Miami/Pitt first. If Pitt wins, just let the chips fall for the favored teams the rest of the day. If Miami wins - Duke and Wake at 3:30 so now we know we need to orchestrate the Duke loss. Then UVA/VT at 7:30, see if VT can be in the game early - more explanatory for VT to beat UVA like they always do than Cal beating SMU....If VT can't do it, make the call to the Ref out in Berkley that we have to keep Cal in this one at 8PM.

TrumpyCane thinks people are really underestimating Washington, they have a good shot at beating Oregon this weekend

Only lost one game at home which was to Ohio State which was a 14-6 game at the end of the 3Q
Spread on that one is the same as Miami/Pitt spread. I think Washington could get it done.

So here's my best, "this is absolute bulls*** Notre Dame argument". Miami and Notre Dame will have played 5 similar games by the end of the season. The current results:

Notre Dame vs Miami: Miami wins head to head
NC State: Notre Dame 36-7, Miami 41-7
Syracuse: Notre Dame 70-7, Miami 38-10
Pitt: Notre Dame 37-15
Stanford: Miami 42-7

If Miami goes out and beats Pitt, let's say, 42-10 and Notre Dame beats Stanford 35-10 then that would mean Miami outperformed Notre Dame in 4 out of 5 comparable games, almost half the season. We also have a Notre Dame victory over Boise 28-7 and Miami crushed USF that beat Boise 34-7. There is PLENTY of crossover there, including a head to head matchup.

If Miami can go throttle Pitt then I think this shouldn't even be a discussion anymore. There is more than enough evidence.

I was disappointed in the lack of scenario content on CIS, so I felt compelled to fill the gap for you mouth breathers and drop the knowledge bomb.

You're welcome.

- Miami must win. Duh, Capt Obvious...

- SMU wins, Duke and Virginia lose:
-- Miami vs. SMU in ACCCG no matter of NC State-UNC and Syracuse-Boston College

- Duke wins, SMU and Virginia lose:
-- Miami vs. Duke in ACCCG IF NC State also beats UNC...Big Manny v Little Manny Bowl throwdown!

- Virginia wins, Duke and SMU lose:
- Miami vs. Virginia ACCCG IF both Syracuse beats Boston College and NC State beats UNC

-Duke, SMU and Virginia all lose:
-- Miami sneaks into ACCCG IF one of Syracuse or NC State wins its regular-season finale...permutations are...
---Syracuse win and NC State loss: Virginia vs. Miami
---NC State win and Syracuse loss: Miami vs. Georgia Tech
---NC State and Syracuse lose: Virginia vs. Miami, Georgia Tech or SMU...all in three-way tie for slot decided by SportSource Rating Score...wtf! 🤷‍♂️
For your four "scenarios", I have not seen other media outlets post for numbers 2 and 3 above that we need additional games to go our way other than Virginia/Duke/SMU. Not saying you are wrong, we are confident that scenarios 2 and 3 require us to worry about Cuse/NC State games?

The ACC just doesn't seem to get it. We are their best chance of having a rep in the CFP that can advance and do well. Why do they insist on ******* us at every turn? Isn’t the entire point of having a good team in your conference to ensure they represent it well? JFC

Not that I want this to happen, but Pitt could be a lock to make the playoffs if they win out. They are currently ranked, and if they beat "highest ranked ACC team Miami" and then won the championship game, they'd likely be in the Top 15.

WTF are we talking about??? Cheating so the ACC can put out a better team? This is what's it's come down to in college ball?

We could go out and beat Pitt 100-0, and I still don’t think it would matter to the committee. Unfortunately, I simply just don’t see a world where they put us in over ND. ESPN won’t allow them too

The Empirical One is NEVAH wrong.

Just ask aTm and Jimbo Fisher.

What does occur, on very rare occassion, is reality runs counter to my brilliance.

I find it offensive.

Bama/Auburn also. Moneyline lets me believe this will be a close game. Need that true freshman to have the breakout game of his life at QB
Auburn offense has looked better since Freeze got fired. Need the defense to be as good as they've been all year except for the Vandy game.

Jordan Hare is as tough as it gets for a night game

Pitt could when you factor in them jumping based on beating a top 12-13 team. They need the same tie-breaker scenarios as we do though. We need 2 of the 3 to lose and Pitt needs UVA or SMU to lose to get in. Still not guaranteed for them.
