The Work 7-3

Not to nitpick here but this recruiting class is already much better than last years

We had 1 top 150 player last year

We’ve got 5-6 right now and Cooper would give us two 5 stars and another one

That’s pretty **** good (though obviously glaring holes like you said)

People just got flaccid because of the hype machine which we should all know better by now
I agree with you here and it's my fault for not articulating myself clearly. You are correct that this class is already much better than last year's. However there is a pattern of starting out hot then completely falling off of a cliff. We started out much better this year in terms of quality of recruits but it's the pattern that bothers me.

It's not the hype that got me as I am a long time recruiting vet who remembers our struggles in the 90's when everyone was going to FSU. So with me it's not the hype but it's a few disturbing trends like hitting a wall during the summer and other more specific things like the continued struggles recruiting Safeties and WRs in addition to DT although this class may break the DT trend.

I was fully convinced the comment you replied to was written by AI

i don't think so ... in today's climate you almost have to play those guys, or they're gone to the portal ... i think everyone with 5stars DL are just about in the same boat ... play those guys and hope for impact as sophs ... if not they will cash in somewhere else
Sounds good on paper but what you’re leaving out is we have absolutely not one DT from the 2023 class that is even on the roster (and only a serviceable Moten from 2022)

That’s a much bigger problem than trying to keep 2024 people happy

I’m with you

We’ve had good classes that people have correctly pointed out lack at certain positions

Fast forward a couple years and yep we’ve got issues at those positions

In that regard it does feel a little Groundhog Day though this class is still very good at this stage

Two years ago we closed strong and last year we flopped (though we nailed the winter portal so that matters) so just gonna have to wait it out

**Center commit Rhys Woodrow is a prospect flying under-the-radar nationally, but heavily appreciated by Miami’s staff. He’s been described to me as an athletic freak who Canes coaches believe is just scratching the surface. He certainly has the genes – I haven’t seen this posted anywhere but Rhys’ father, James Woodrow, was a 5th-round pick for the San Francisco Giants in 1995 as a 6-6, 240 pound right-handed pitcher. Canes think they’ve got a potentially special one here.

Not sure I care about his father being a minor league catcher, but I agree one he is a sleeper in this class.
**Safety Devin Jackson’s communication with Miami has dwindled significantly in the last week or so. That one is done and dusted. One of the more disappointing misses of the cycle considering the lack of quality options at the position right now.

What happened here? Is one side passed at the other on maybe a reneg on a nil agreement? Jackson asked for a crazy amount?

Kid seemed like a lock.

**Although listed at 230 pounds on recruiting sites, recent Canes commit Asharri Charles is currently 240+ pounds. I mentioned on the CanesInSight Daily Podcast last week that Miami sees him as a player with a ton of positional versatility – not only as an edge rusher, but with a frame that could allow him to play an explosive 3-tech role on the interior of the line.

Can't see the 3T thing but I agree a nice get. Need a true end though, and that board like so many…For some reason in a year with the schoolies going up to 105…Is looking thin.

The Work and the Bank? Good times ahead......

@Peter Ariz

It's great to see you bringing back "The Work". Based on the above you haven't lost a step and still have it. Excellent job with the update and I really appreciate the report on the football team. I'm absolutely psyched about this DL particularly these young DEs like Lightfoot, Lowe, Blount, McConathy and Pickett. Maybe for the next edition you could report on the DTs. Loved to read about Mo Toure and the fact he is impressing. He may become a huge factor in this defense’s ability to turn things around.

Unfortunately, it appears as if recruiting has hit a wall. This is looking very similar to last year and it's beginning to be a real concern. Our Safety recruiting has been completely abysmal and I'm at a loss to understand why. We hired two of the best secondary coaches in the nation in Zac Etheridge and Will Harris yet we can't recruit a single safety to save our lives. Mario seems to be locked into a death struggle with Georgia for both Breck Kolojay and Derek Cooper. It's imperative that we win both but especially Cooper as losing him would be catastrophic.

I'm excited to hear about Rhys Woodrow and how special the staff thinks he is and the fact that Asharri Charles is 240 plus and is possibly considered to be capable of growing into an explosive 3tech. The development of Jaden Wilkerson is great to hear. Add him to Juan Minaya who has improved tremendously according to the staff and we have a very solid foundation for the 2026 OL together with Samson Okunlola, Tommy Kinsler, Matt McCoy, Nino Francavilla and SJ Alofaituli.
I’m genuinely curious what makes Zac Etheridge and Will Harris “two of the best secondary coaches in the nation” other than the fact we hired them??

I’m asking because I’m no DB coach expert and don’t even follow it but I recall us spending most of last year clowning Will Harris. Etheridge I know less about other than his sister Melissa.
